Help me choose my next AP for the hometable group!

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

Hello everybody,

We are currently finishing our second AP after Kingmaker, Iron Gods. So I have one month for preparing the next one! And I would like to hear some advices/opinions/thoughts on the one I'm interested in.

I like Mummy's Mask, Shattered Star, Curse of the Crimson Throne & Ruins of Azlant. I think I'm able to do justice to each one of them.

My players like having the opportunity to make decisions that matters, to face various foes and to be the heroes of the story. They dislike endless dungeons runs whitout a huge story or flavor attached to them. The crashed ships in Iron Gods were a sucess, but a lot of "cave hex" in Kingmaker were not.

For my part I like stories with old empires and lost mysteries, and encounters with various mechanics (like class from many books, monsters archetypes, etc...). I also like when the AP gives us the opportunity to foreshadow the BBEG and the plot during the all campaign. Kingmaker was a little bit to slow for me on this aspect.

Anyway thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Silver Crusade

Given your player's preferences, I'd avoid Shattered Star. It's very dungeon-heavy.

MM-would probably work. there's some fun mechanics like a memorable chase and a desert crawl. the bad guy doesn't get hinted at until the 2nd book, iirc, but it's all there. Books 5 & 6 are giant dungeons though (even if they do have a point, and every AP has at least one book that's nothing but a dungeon).
Shattered Star-would definitely not work as mentioned above

From what you are saying Curse and Ruins are probably great fits for your players. Although Curse has a massive fan base on these forums, I'd probably go with Ruins because you spend the whole time involved with ruins and lost mysteries. You didn't mention anything about really loving urban adventuring or a ton of NPC interaction, and ruins has much less of that than Curse.

So... I'd rank them (for your purposes)
Ruins
Mummy's
Curse
Shattered Star

CotCT is, by far, the best AP Paizo has ever written. I highly, highly recommend it.

Alright thanks guys for the insight! Ruins seems a perfect fit for me but I know CotCT is famous so I’ll submit the two to my players vote!

Hello
I take advantage of this thread too (sorry for my english, i'm french).

I search a new AP for my players but i've some constrainsts.

1) We've just stopped Kingmaker at book 4 because the subsystems were too heavy to manage and we don't have many time to play the AP.

Subsystems can be OK if
- they are well integrated on adventures and not too heavy to manage
- you need them just for 1 or 2 books

2) Story can be complicated but my players are slow, we have "few time" to run AP and we need to concentrate on adventure without spending times "outside the books of AP".
Before we use party at 25 or 20 pts, but i wish to return to party 15 pts because i don't want to manage the balance of game every time: i have no time to change things, so i want to play game as it's wrotten... about of course... a master always modify an adventure (smile).

3) We (or some of us) have already played Curse of Crimson throne, Kingmaker, Rise of the Runelords, Council of Thieves.
My players play, with another master, Skull & Shackles.

We don't want to play evil character.

I prefer a latest AP than an old one to be able to integrate the latest books.

In a first choice (which may change), we thought to Ironfang Invasion:
- there is, of what i understood, a subsystem "Militia" but it's not too heavy and you need it for the first 2 books only.

But perhaps the game environment is too close of AP Rise of Runelords or Kingmaker????

Any advices????

ironfang doesn't require the militia system at all. just use it as a narrative device, if you choose.

the real "system" in ironfang is the survival mechanic that's used for the survivors. it's really only seriously important in the first book, but it's central to the story.

ironfang is a great AP.

Ironfang is excellent. You can ignore the few subsystems it uses.
It is great for using mounts

Thank you for your answer Yakman & Thenovalord!!!
