Help with The Silverhex Cronicles' ending [spoilers]

GM Discussion

I'm just about to finish the Silverhex Chronicles here on the boards, and the way that quests work has me slightly confused for the ending. My players are currently chatting with Anwald to convince him to drop his feud with Ulisha, but they may end up failing the skill checks necessary. If they spent some of the gold they found by doing the other five quests, would that still come out of their chronicle sheet rewards like regular scenarios?

The whole obtaining Silverhex part has me confused, because it seems like all the treasure collected along the way should be used to buy the thing, but that seems very strange to me if it comes off of the rewards.

Silverhex is there as an 'access reward', to allow characters to buy it at a future point if they are successful.

Thank you. My main concern was that to get the extra boon, the players have to succeed at a dc 25 check or pay 500gp. I wondered if the 500 come out of their chronicle rewards. But after seeing your answer above, I suspect it does. It's just that I have never had to pay for a boon before, so it seems a bit weird to me.

If I remember correctly, if the PCS successfully make the check, they get to buy Silverhex at the discounted price off the chronicle sheet in the future. If they don't make the check, they have to pay the greater price if they want it down road. The 500 gold doesn't get subtracted from their chronicle in this case, but if they're spending gold on anything else (like getting him to drop his vendetta), then you would subtract whatever they spent as you would any other personal purchases made during a scenario.

Thank you!
