Half-Orc Barbarian - any advice on multiclass

Advice

Hello friends,

I am looking to make a Barbarian - multiclass(which I have never tried before).

Any advice on archetype and what my 2nd class should be for best optimization? Any strong Self buffs and so forth thaat opens up with multi classing?

My 3 other party members are Wizard, Shaman and multiclass druid-front liner.

Any advice on rages/feats that would combo well with a multiclass also welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Nyama

A single level dip into Oracle with Lame curse to become immune to Fatigue at 9th level and get a revelation (which one depends on you: if you were a Bloodrager, you could have been interested into Cha to AC from Lore/Nature/Lunar; another option could be going Dual-Cursed and pick Misfortune; ...). Also, Oracle spell list includes Divine Favour, which works very well with Sacred Tattoo half-orc alternate racial trait, and the Fate's Favored trait.

A single level dip into Titan Fighter enables you to use a Large 2H weapon without the need of the Barbarian Titan Mauler archetype.

Two levels dip into Eldritch Guardian gives you a familiar that shares your combat feats. Pick Valet archetype, so now you share also teamwork feats. Pick Amplified Rage and Sympathetic Rage (both half-orc-specific feats). The familiar gets both. Place the familiar on your head: now every time you rage, you get extra +4 to Str and Con.

We can give you more info if you tell us what kind of build you're looking for, eg: 2H weapon, natural weapons, unchained Barbarian...

Thanks I'll look into that.

I'm not too sure on the build yet, I got super lucky and rolled crazy good stats so am wanting to take advantage of that somehow
I rolled:
My Barbarian start stats:
Str 17 + 2
Con 16
Dex 15
Int 15
Wis 15
Cha 15

My druid party member is a natural attacker, so maybe I should look into two hand weapon

Those are indeed some crazy good stats. There are a lot of really cool options available to you with stats like those.

Fighter, or one of its many archetypes, are always a great dip choice. Oracle has already been mentioned for the great combo with its lame curse. Alchemist is another class has a lot of synergy with Barbarians, and with your good intelligence score it'll work very smoothly. Your overall impressive stats also make Eldritch Knight a lot more tenable if you want to pursue a spellcasting class. Bloodrager is generally better than Barbarian when mixing with spellcasting classes, since it's easier to qualify for the Mad Magic feat as a bloodrager, but with stats like the ones you have you can have your cake and eat it too with regards to being great in combat and with casting.

Gray Warden's eldritch guardian advice is really solid- it's hard to go wrong with +8 Str/Con when raging! Plus, an extra +1 to most will saves never hurts.

Dasrak's right about alchemists too- stacking Str mutagen with rage is great (+8 str and the natural armor bonus offsets the AC penalty from rage).

You can actually combine those two suggestions too... eldritch guardian and mutation warrior stack as fighter archetypes- if you take them both then 3 levels of fighter will get you the familiar that grants super rage plus a mutagen 1/day that lasts 30 minutes. Amplified Rage plus a strength mutagen will take your Str from 19 to 31 as early as 4th level if you went barb 1/fighter 3 (32 if you put your 4th level point into Str). And that's all while maintaining full BAB.

If your wizard friend will use enlarge person on you then your Str would hit 34, which is +12 to hit (just from Str, not including BAB or anything) and +18 damage with a two-handed sword (which will do 3d6 damage with 10' reach).

Cleric with Plant (Growth sub-domain for swift action enlarge person) and Travel domains would be super cool. Fast and Large!

Also, better Will saves, so you don't rage, get charmed, kill party.

EDIT:

Oracle is good if you want to check out the Rage Prophet PrC.
Alchemist is good if you want to check out the Master Chymist PrC

I had fun with a dwarf barbarian 1/magus X. I wielded a Dwarven Waraxe so I could switch between two-handed Raging Power Attacks and 1-handed Spell Combat and Spell Striking, so every fight was different, since you can't really rage and cast without a bunch of feats that might not have existed when I made that character. :-P

Yeah nice, thanks for the advice guys, I think i will research this idea, Barbarian/Fighter/Alchemist as you guys said, sounds like a good time !

What would be the build to get that fighter/alch going? the massive str

like how many levels in each?
and any archtypes

I was thinking Barbarian/Druid would be cool. You can take Rage Powers that give you Natural Attacks that do 1d6 when you are Size Medium, then you can Wild Shape into Huge Animals. Rage Powers can give you Bite and Claws or Gore. You can pick Animal Shapes that give you others: Megaraptor that gives you 2 Talon Attacks, Gorrillas that give you 2 Slam Attacks, Triceratops that gives you a Gore Attack in addition to your Barbarian Claws and Bite. Giant Octopi, of course.

Rage'll stack nicely with Wild Shape, I think.

You need 4 levels in Druid to give you Wild Shape, then take the Shaping Focus Feat.

You might get an Animal Companion. Take some of those Teamwork Feats like Amplified Rage.

I recently played a barb/oracle/rage prophet 2/11/4 and I could not speak highly enough of this build.

With those stats, this build would really shine!

High casting levels, insane dpr, cast self-heals while raged, buffed and raged 36 str, 360+ hp self-buffed, cast the "heal" spell=10 hp/CL...

This list is endless...

I originally created him as our front-line tank and after 4 levels of rage prophet, I focused solely on oracle for the spells and class abilities of the Oracle of Battle.

You can front-line fight with a 2-hander, back-up heal almost as well as a pure healer, and the buffs....

If you are interested, pm me for more details.

This is epic, would you be able to shared the buils so I can mimic this in my home games?

I think Barbarian 1 or 2/alchemist 7/Master Chymist X.

I don't know of any specific archetypes that would specifically help the build, maybe Urban? Mutagenic Warrior?

For the alchemist part, maybe Grenadier if you plan on throwing bombs and not poisoning folk? Alternatively, the Vivasectionist trades out bombs for sneak attack if you want even more melee damage. Master Chymist advances bombs, I think.

Working on it currently. Should be up tonight.

1. barbarian1 [drunken brute/savage technologist], Extra Rage
2. cleric1 [Kurgess (Community/Travel)]
3. (any martial)

...ignore difficult terrain Wis+3 times per day, nearly double your move, Rage for Str+Dex, drink potions as a move-action, heal your owies and get rid of fatigue at 2nd-level.
