Holy Avenger opposite?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Is there a weapon that's like the opposite of a Holy Avenger for anti-paladins? If so what's it called?

Not to my knowledge, but logically, it'd be an Unholy Avenger. Just like the Holy one, but swap any of the alignment-based nonsense.

Bastard's Sting:

PRD wrote:

Bastard's Sting

Price 123,035 gp; Aura strong necromancy; CL 18th; Weight 6 lbs.

This +2 adamantine bastard sword becomes a +5 unholy adamantine bastard sword in the hands of an antipaladin.

While wielded by an antipaladin, a bastard's sting deals 2d6 points of negative energy damage to all living creatures that start their turn adjacent to the wielder. The antipaladin also gains fast healing 5 as long as at least one living creature takes damage from this negative energy. This negative energy has no effect on undead. The sword also enables the antipaladin to use unholy blight at will on command at the class level of the antipaladin. Paladins take a –2 saving throw penalty against this effect.

Construction Requirements

Cost 63,035 gp

Craft Magic Arms and Armor, unholy aura, unholy blight, creator must be evil

okay... okay...
you are looking for something with the unholy(+2) weapon enhancement.
the Bastard's Sting (above)
Fanged Falchion
Reaver's Scythe
etc

It will always be called an Unholy Avenger in my game.

EDIT: I meant Unholy Reaver, from 1e. I had the word "Avenger" in my sights and typed it unwittingly. Today has not been a good day for wits.

If you were really going full opposite, though, wouldn't it be an Unholy Get-Over-It-And-Forgiver?

I'll show myself out...

Nah, I think it would be an Unholy Revenger.

And is there a true neutral equivalent? Like the "Meh, I'll Eventually Get Over It, But First Let the Air Out of Their Tires During My Lunch Break-er"?

I prefer Unholy Despoiler myself

Am I remembering incorrectly that it was called an Unholy Reaver in 1e?

Then the paladin's detect evil could be referred to as Despoiler Alert...

I believe you're remembering correctly. But then, there could be two of us mis-remembering the same thing. If we can get a third, that's good enough to make it the right answer.

I'm throwing d4s at my computer screen in an attempt to punish that pun.

Well played.

I also remember Unholy Reaver from 1st Edition -- originally from a Dragon article.

Right. The first character I ever created was an Anti-Paladin in an all evil campaign. (my first character was a hand me down from the DM).

Unholy Reaver? You mean, like, Styx?

Can't... stop... stupid... jokes...

The Unholy Despoiler does actually exist in 3.5, it's in the Epic Level Handbook.

3.5 d20srd wrote:

Unholy Despoiler

In the hands of any character other than a blackguard, this sword performs as a +3 unholy longsword. In the hands of a blackguard, this weapon functions as a +7 longsword of unholy power and grants a +5 profane bonus on the wielder’s saving throws against spells with the good descriptor or spells cast by good characters. If a blackguard wielder smites good with the unholy despoiler, he or she adds twice his or her blackguard level to damage (rather than his or her blackguard level).

Caster Level: 23rd; Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Epic Magic Arms and Armor, blasphemy, unholy aura, unholy blight; Market Price: 4,650,315 gp; Cost to Create: 2,325,315 gp + 56,500 XP.

Thanks, I wondered why I had no such thing in my old AD&D books

Antipaladins themselves were a Dragon magazine thing in 1e - there were tons of "NPC classes" printed that varied wildly in playability, but many DMs allowed PCs to choose from them.
