What are you going to do with a personal computer?

General Discussion

So I've read the computers section pretty closely, but it is a lot to digest. My question for everyone is what are you going to do with the computers your character will own? I plan on using a miniaturized computer with the AI upgrade to support my Android's poor social skills. What uses do you guys plan on?

Play minesweeper or tetris.

Fallout 6

(Though honestly I need to keep reading through it.. but most likely a data mine as i'll be an engineer and can connect to the ships main comp)

Play the Pathfinder MMORPG because that sounds like being significantly meta.

My hacker used their phone in one session to try to lure out a monster. Just turned on the alarm, set it for thirty seconds, and slid it into the dark warehouse.

Sorry for derailing your question. Though there is mention somewhere that personal comm units can be used to play games, or as a flashlight.

Seriously, scenarios can be written to require computer hacking, or to have NPCs trying to hack your computer. Buying a more expensive computer makes your computer more secure versus the enemy's Computers skills (and vice versa).

You can control non-Mechanic drones, defensive systems, perimeter security. Store the data that everyone is trying to steal, or steal back after you've stolen it. Electrocute hackers.

Have alignment debates on various planetary info spheres, of course. What else would it be used for?

Core Rulebook page 133

Quote:
You can take 20 on a check to identify a creature, but only if you have a means of performing research, such as access to an information network like a planetary infosphere or a downloaded data set (see page 430); this typically takes 2 minutes.

taking 20 to recall knowledge is on the same page, and has the same rule about having computer access.

If you see the monster coming, it might be awfully useful to take the 2 minutes to look it up on Wikipedia with your portable computer before you engage it ;) Also, if you are on a primitive planet, far from your ship, there might not be a public terminal you can use, so your personal computer will be the only way to do any research.

I have a character (sadly still in the theoretical stage until I can get a chance to play her) that uses it to store and edit her (and her drone's, especially the drone's) camera footage so she can upload it to the Pact Worlds' equivalent of Youtube. That is her day job.

I've got my technomancer a tier 1 miniaturized computer, which I'm using as her spellcache.

Themesong.

I'm going to use mine to cyberbully the Android singing sensation Beyonce 2000.

Or maybe just to hack into some s+++.

My ysoki icon mechanic vlogger uses a custom-built double-miniaturized tier one computer to back up all his mission footage, and keeps it in his cheek pouches.

Have it operate security systems that you hack.

Or just hack the system herself.

Get it small enough to wear on my wrist, and then stuff it full of spell chips for my technomancer. I'm not seeing an upper limit to how many a computer can hold, and having all the spells with at least one casting seems like a decent use. I mean it'll be less than 200 for each first level, and you never know what you'll need. Probably also some hacking, because why wouldn't you.

Because you don't need a computer to hack, just a toolkit (hacking).

But yes, it's going to be awesome to have loads of spellchips for it.
