Reading through ISoS the shrine of Desna got me thinking. Would Desna or her followers be a good ally against the old ones, or at least in the first book of the AP?
Desna is tied to dreams, the stars and fate, so it seems the Old Ones would be an enemy and the interference in the dreams of mortals might be something she, or likely one of her agents might try to do something about.
I ask because I am planning on running the game, I like things to be tough but also I like give my PCs some type of resource when things get really bad. I was thinking of giving them some type of blessing points they can use for a re roll or a minor bonus and regaining them would be based on things that mesh with Desna's profile. My other thought was doing this with another old one, such as Cthulhu, and allow the PCs to take on insanity points or some kind of corruption to get bonuses, and each time they do, I can check to see if they suffer a lasting negative effect.

Desna is actually a terrific choice as this goes back to origins and her mentor. She feels that the night should be beautiful and this is one of many reasons she opposes Zon-Kuthon. She could see the stars as something that people should view with beauty, not with fear which could be the reason for the worshipper of her to want to fight. At least that is my opinion.

Desna is a good choice... but Black Butterfly may be even better. She's more-or-less the celestial enemy of everything from the Dark Tapestry - although being an Empyreal Lord, she doesn't quite have the strength to oppose its gods.

James Jacobs is on record saying Desna is the Pathfinder deity most involved in fighting the Outer Gods and Great Old Ones.
Black Butterfly's close association to both Desna and space likewise makes her a solid choice.

One of my players took is going to make a varisian Bard with a dash of Oracle, who is a worshipper of Desna.
I think Desna is a perfect fit for this AP. Pharasma works great in the first book or two, but Desna also works well there, and is a perfect fit for the Dreams of the Yellow King AP. I haven't read What Grows Within yet, but I feel Desna will be the best god(dess) for the whole campaign.
