A lot of times when we write a background, if we write a full one at all, we barely touch upon a characters childhood. Growing up a farmboy, son of a scholar, daughter of a soldier seem to be just background notes. Our childhood’s invariably affect who we become when we grow up. So today we’re going to look at just a few possible ideas for our character’s childhoods, how they might affect our character, and questions we might ask ourselves when writing up these background.
What little quirks do you give your character based on their upbringing? How does your characters social status as a child affect how he deals with other people?
