Rise of the Runelords - what next?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Hello
I am fairly sure this question will probably have been asked before but i've had a look and I cannot find an answer.

So my group is half way through deck 5 of rise of the runelords Pathfinder card game, deck 6 is on its way (love the game) and I am curious as to where we go from here? Have I missed something or is that it?

I've just found something called Pathfinder Society card game which sounds very similar to what we are already playing with some slight rule adjustments - but we'll have to start again? And from what i've read it sounds so close to what we are already playing I am confused as to why they didnt just create a second path adventure and allow us to continue the characters we've enjoyed building?

I know there is the skulls and shackers and there is wrath of the righeous base sets but these are seperate games effectively?

Maybe the intension is to release more path adventures I am just being impatient?

cheers!
Dan

Each Adventure Path is a complete story/game. It takes your characters from start to finish. So, yeah, after you complete adventure deck 6 that will be pretty much it for your characters.*

But don't underestimate the fun of experiencing a new character or a new adventure path. Rise of the Runelords can be a very different experience with a different set of characters. And if you've enjoyed Rise of the Runelords so much, odds are you will enjoy Skull and Shackles or Wrath of the Righteous.

Or, as you've discovered, there are Pathfinder Society Card Guild scenarios for Season of the Runelords. They are intended to be played using class decks, but a little conversion and make them work with the standard rules.

*Mike Selinker discussed how to use Wrath of the Righteous as a sort of "adventure 7". And some fan made "adventure 7s" exist. Ron Lundeen has a pretty popular one.

Hi Dan,

The basic answer is : after chapter 6, you are done with those characters. they can retire happily ever after. Now this is not 100% true as I'll explain later, but not far.

The intention on the game was that when you've played through the whole 6 chapters, you start again with brand new characters playing from level 0 :

1) - either the same story with different characters (from the RoRL box or from class decks...) enjoying powers of the new characters and those boons or monsters that you hadn't the chance to encounter the first time.

2) - either another story using the same box of cards (could be an official one like Season of the Runelords, or a fan made one like Shield of Rannick and others)

3) - a full new box like Skull and Shackles or Wrath of the Righteous or Mummy's Mask (that last one is incoming in october)

This said, there has been official or fan made additional scenarios to play some kind of mini chapter 7 for those who want an epic ending to their characters. But there is no full set of level 7 banes and boons (at least no official one) so this is just a one shot.

You gonna have much more fun restarting from scratch with totally different characters. There are over 100 different official characters available on paizo.com (and each of those have 2 different role cards to chose from), so the hardest part will be to select one.

... as usual, ninja'ed by Hawk...

I'm curious, is there actually a complete list somewhere? I played Shield of Rannick and enjoyed it, but I have yet to find another complete adventure path made by a fan (not counting bloodlust corsairs since I don't own SnS).

I thought that for a while as well, but it's actually not true.

Base set characters for RotR, SnS, WotR: 11+11+12 = 34
Class decks first wave: 7*4 = 28
Remaining class decks up to witch: 8*3 = 24
Goblins: 9

=> 34+28+24+9 = 95 characters available in total.
It'll take until october with M&M or the summoner class deck to get to the third digit.

3 promo goblins too. Still not 100, but a bit closer.

A list is available here, but note that the list encompasses far more than additional adventure paths for the Adventure Card Game. You can Ctrl+F through it though to find the entries about the card game, I only see one other adventure listed besides the ones that Ron Lundeen worked on.

Some people are already out there playing with Gunslingers, Warpriests, and Summoners (at 3 each), so some people have over 100 options already at least :)

Yeah, but they had to win the Gen Con PACG Open, right?

You forgot to mention the Ninja Class Deck, Keith.

Hehehehehehehehe... I mean, I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I hate you all guys... Gen Con is way to far from my home land :-)
