Coming this October, if it doesn't get an XCOM2-like delay until Q1 2017.
The changes outlined in the article are promising. I could use with a more organic tech tree that works more like Beyond Earth's than Civ V's. The creating corps and armies from like units plus support units is interesting. And I could always use a better enemy AI.

Stonehenge can only be built near stone.
Ha! Tell that to Stonehenge. :)
Civ IV was the absolute pinnacle of the series thus far IMO (with an honorable mention for Alpha Centauri, which I played the heck out of). Hope this one is great, too! (Also hope it doesn't require Windows 10, which I'm avoiding like the plague.)

Honestly a little surprised as much as they have worked on Beyond Earth's expansions. Thought they were going back for one or more DLCs for that series (as happened with Civ 5).
Always interested in a new Civilization game. Honestly, still playing through Civ 5 for some of the achievements on Steam and trying new combo. I felt Civ V was more streamlined in concept and design than Civ IV; making it very easy to get into a game.

Every Civ game I've played has been phenomenal in some way, with Beyond Earth the only one feeling a bit "meh" (it still has its good points though).
Weirdly, my reaction on seeing the game announced was "So soon?" even though V and even BE have been out for awhile now. Starting a new game of V still feels fresh for me (though admittedly I haven't done it in awhile thanks to my Fallout 4 addiction).
Looking forward though, to see what they come up with.

My few hundred hours of Civ V feel tired, even after BNW's gimmicks made it fun* again. That's kinda why I was so hyped by BE, I wanted a bit of "new" from the franchise. While BE did deliver on new (The best Tech Tree in a civ yet), much of the gameplay felt like we had taken a step backward. Gone were obvious motivations on the other leaders, which felt like a back to Civ 2 change. I mean really, no matter what leaders showed up, 50% of them would be ideologically aligned with you (friendly or enemy), 25% opposite aligned (always enemy), and 25% dual ideology with part of yours (friendly or enemy). Yeah some of their development was scripted in the AI, but so much was bland AI that you might as well just call them faction "Color" instead of naming them. Hell, I can still remember automatically ending any game of Civ 3 that I started nearest Rome or in Civ 4 nearest Saladin because their AI style was so aggressive toward my playstyle. ALMOST as bad as Japan in Civ 5 (but no unit stacking made these guys tolerable). BE had none of that, as all of the leaders felt so samey.
The Polygon article sounds like they heard some of the complaints about the BE leaders and will be making the VI guys more unique.
As for timeframe, I don't feel it "so soon." My current PC was built around mid-lining to top-lining Civ V's release specs, and its starting to feel aged. Some stuff won't run on it nowadays (I have a new VC just specifically to meet minimum requirements for XCOM 2), and Dragon Age 2, a 1.5y/o game, struggled to even play. My deep down thoughts is that I'm gonna have to *sniff* get a new PC for this thing come fall.
*I can't not win a culture victory on a difficulty I can otherwise win now due to tourism.

I only just fired up Civ V again after probably a couple of years, because I never got really into it before. I found the mechanics relatively opaque and difficult to grasp on an intuitive level. In contrast, I spent hours tweaking the Earth map in Civ IV, trying to make it as balanced as possible.
Civ VI will definitely be a "wait until it's on sale" game for me.

*Facepalm*
I just went searching through the forums, trying to find where BigNorseWolf was dispensing these game-altering revelations about Civ V strategies.
...and now I realize you mean the Brave New World expansion.
I thought the same thing earlier :)
As for Civ, I never actually played V. Probably won't play VI either.
Played the hell out of I & II. And then Alpha Centauri, which was by far my favorite. Tried III, but went back to Alpha Centauri instead. Eventually tried IV, but never really got into it.
Honestly, all news of another Civ version makes me think of is trying to get Alpha Centauri working again. :)

Good Old Games will sell you a perfectly good version of AC (and supplement) which works happily on modern machines. I'm really close to a finish in a game right now, except Stellaris came out and so I'm playing that.
Civ VI, eh. I'll buy it. I just may not play it past midnight quite so many nights in a row as I used to.

Yeah, except I want the Linux version, which I don't think they have. Last time I looked anyway.
I might even still have it floating around, but there were library issues last time I tried to use it. Which was at least one machine back.
