When was the last time you fought Goblins?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I was reading another thread and it occurred to me that I can't remember the last time I fought goblins. Or ever for that matter. It probably happened when I was in PFS, and I've run them a couple of times, oh I just remembered I played we be goblins, so that was probably the last time I fought goblins. That was quite a while ago, like maybe a couple of years. It's kind of a pity they're fun to fight (definitely fun to run).

When was the last time you fought goblins, or what kind of creature have you not fought in much too long?

Goblins with class levels that utilize their stupidly high Stealth mods can be fun.

Well, I'm *playing* a goblin alchemist now, but being that he's a studious outcast who was trained by a gnome noctumancer, he certainly plays against type a bit. Though his morals are still a bit... off, for being an enlightened little monster.

Other than that, Rise of the Runelords, and our next AP is going to be Jade Regent, so perhaps the real question is why is it only Sandpoint that has goblin problems?

I've played and/or run Lost Mines of Phandelver about a half dozen times since it was released. The last time being about 5 months ago.

I also run a regular 2e WHFRP game that consistently features goblins as an enemy.

Lastly, for Pathfinder, my current game is on hiatus (they're all 6th level) but they faced a goblin ambush early in their adventure about a year ago.

Goblin encounters are pretty common in my games.

Every few sessions my players get a handful to deal with. Also, the first encounter of a new campaign is always against goblins for my players. Almost a tradition.

It's been a while since we've actually fought them, but we've had three goblin encounters in one current campaign (resolved diplomatically) and a goblin PC in a second campaign.

I think the last goblin fight was our first PF campaign in 2011.

My group is early on in RoTR, so almost all we have fought so far is goblins. (Everything except a couple skeletons)

Hrm, I GM so much that I really have to think; one of my players ran a session of RotRL a couple months ago--I think that was the last time. The smattering of other games I've played in were all high level, and the GMs didn't alter the base creatures much. Now, if we include player characters it's been a while since 'I' fought more than one, but they do pop up consistently.

It's because you all fear the might of the Imperial Goblin Navy! AND RIGHTLY SO!

Last night, it was 7 goblin miners. They were working for human slavers. The half-orc used the bluff skill to get them to think there was a fire in the mines (since the druid was shapeshifted into a small fire elemental at the time) then the mage let loose a lightning bolt when they got close to the corner where the PCs were waiting in ambush... none survived. =)

Well, it's not goblins, but we did fight hobgoblins a few days ago.

After a long (mythic) adventure, my exiled hobgoblin prince, a LN cleric of Abadar, finally returns to his homeland, where the evil emperor (his uncle, who had deposed his father for not being imperialistic and militaristic enough) appears to have started dealing with the evil apocalyptic god we are fighting. The rest of the party is made of humans, a half-elf, and a dwarf, so my guy was not met very hospitally. XD

Fun times to come, I am sure.

About 2 levels ago. The goblins were the usual lovable psychos and gave the party some trouble, especially in a night ambush; their bugbear boss collapsed under a Sleep spell and was a real anticlimax.

We've had kobolds too. Ogres are rumoured to be at large in the hills, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them soon. We seem to have skipped orcs and hobgoblins, though we'll see. The ranger has Goblinoid as his first FE so he's hoping for a few hobgoblins before it's irrelevant.

The problem with having 5 bestiaries to deal with is that a GM feels under pressure to use them and put some variety in a campaign, when it's not really necessary. The old standards still give plenty of value when used well.

It's been awhile since I fought a mind flayer or beholder.

The trouble with goblins is that the two main ways I see them played either make them just tiny orcs or slightly different kobolds. So most DMs I see just run the kobolds or orcs.

In PF? Late 2011/early 2012 - book one of RotRL
In 1e? Mid 2014.
In 5e? Last Feb/March.

I have NEVER, in 33 years of playing 1e+, fought a Beholder.

I think the last time I remember fighting goblins was in Sandpoint. It's a shame as one of our players discovered a rather inventive goblin who made totally impractical traps out of found junk. He became a sort of ally - thanks to our GM, MacGuyver Goblin was born!

Pretty sure you're never going to face those in a pathfinder campaign.

Don't think my characters have fought one recently. But in a recent scenario I ran there was a bunch of goblins. It was funny, I'd thought that first goblin fight would be the easiest encounter of the bunch. Instead it took the longest, and had the most hilarity since nobody could hit the the dang things. Oh, and the weasel which was just ruining one player's character.

Not unless you want the spooky wizards to send you a spooky Cease and Desist.

You'd be surprised...

Well I'm about 3 sessions into rise of the runelords so just under a week ago. That bit in the forest where you have to squeeze because it's too small and the druid gets to run away through the impassable plant walls was more challenging than you would expect.

I've never fought a standard Golarion-esque Goblin. The last time I fought a Goblin in our group's homebrew though? We didn't even fight the whole body. He was a literal brain in a jar controlling a mech-like tank. My Kobold actually ended up getting turned into an icicle by a freeze ray towards the end of that fight. RIP Draahzin.

Last time I fought goblins was at the beginning of the RotRL campaign I am currently in.

Let me see, I have over 160+ Goblin minis including 24 wolf riders. Looking for an excuse to use them all at once.
