More plans for greed

Rise of the Runelords

Looking for more plans/plot hooks on branding the rune and then killing greedy people. Particularly in small towns. Any ideas you used or just thought up?

I would personally keep it contained to either X or L setting it up, either personally or with more minions like B7 or Aldern.

Spitballing ideas:

Mercenary company formed by minion of X. Tattoos his followers with the rune and goes on high risk high reward missions paying his troops generously to encourage taking the risks and attract more recruits.

Mini L occurances in small towns. Local gambling halls formed with special 'memberships'

X involves the Red Mantis assassins and sets up a payment for harvesting of greedy souls. (proof of greed + rune = money.)

I would be a bit wary because you could send your PCs on some wild goose chases if you aren't careful. It would be very interesting to montage it though.

Thanks, I particularly like the merc company.

We had some additional "harvesters" in our campaign.

Spoiler:

I had in total five lamias sent out by Mokmurian to different parts of Varisia.

First of course the two we all know and love.

Then I had one in Korvosa, and for her I mostly nicked Lady Andasin from Crimson Throne. She had tampered with Vorel's plague and the buboes forming from the sickness had the shape of a Sihedron. She was running a soup kitchen out of a derelict church in Korvosa, and said the words of the ritual while handling out plague-tainted coins to the poor.

There was Zarqi, who had taken over the largest brothel (and also a church to Calistra) in Riddleport. She gave the greedy of the city a discount to the churches "communion" if they tattooed in the rune. She then started a war in Riddleport's underworld to harvest.

And lastly there is Fimash who has allied herself with Arkhryst in the north of Varisa. The dragon flies over one of the small villages or fishing towns of the region, then Fimash shows up, selling expensive rings to the greedy of the village which should protect them against dragon's breath (they actually are Cold Resistance 5 rings, and she has 12 of them that she's made). The ring has an additional power, in that when exposed to deadly cold, it burns in the Sihedron and the words of the ritual around the finger of the victim. After she has sold her rings, she also gives a "dragon warding symbol" to the rest of the willing, by (of course) painting the Sihedron on their backs. Arkrhyst then comes again, kills all in the village and Fimash returns to collect the rings from the dead. Rinse and repeat. Fimash also helps guard the entrance to Runeforge when not harvesting greed.

Clever ideas.

I suggest to use the Golden Goblin gambling center at Riddleport (you can find the map in the first book of Second Darkness) as an eccellent location for "harvesting" of greedy souls, expecially if you also use the pathfinder society moduel 3.26 - portal of the sacred rune - as a near place in which can be easily hosted a runewell. The place is also defended by a lamia matriarch that is, by essential, X on steroids ...
