Eyes of the Ten at GenCon 2016?

Pathfinder Society

Hello! I noticed that in the past that the Eyes of the Ten series has been run at GenCon.

I have searched, but alas I cannot find if this is a regular occurrence. Please pardon the new thread if this has already been discussed (I can't find it if it has) but are there plans to do this again for 2016? I realize this is quite a ways out, but I would definitely be interested. I may have opportunites to play in it before hand, and so I just want to try to make an informed decision on timing and what character I would like to use for this reportedly epic retirement arc.

On a semi-related note - There isn't (by chance) plans for a new series of scenarios that could also be played as a seeker series/retirement arc, is there? I know there is a module that can be played, was just curious if more scenarios would be written for that specific purpose.

Thanks in advance!

As Eyes of the Ten would take about 75% of your GenCon and you would be playing with the same people, it's easier to just create your own mini convention.

Get a group of 4-6 seekers and invite a GM :-)

As long as I got to play in the specials, I wouldn't be as picky about the other time slots. Last year Gen Con was my first, and I loved it. Mostly I would just want to make sure I played in the things that are "exclusive" to Gen Con. Everything else is up for whatever.

Not a bad idea though about the mini-con - We are discussing something similar with my regular PbP group.

Eyes was offered at GenCon in 2012 and 2013 and - I believe - 2014. However there wasn't really a good estimate of demand. There were two tables of each scheduled in 2013 and only one filled. And even that was touch-and-go. Like Auke said you basically have to dedicate GenCon to play Eyes. Most people aren't going to want to spend their time that way.

I really recommend against playing Eyes in any kind of time-limited slot. The story is amazing and the role-playing opportunities abound. A convention is a poor environment for the possible reach of the experience.

Where do you generally play? There are many GMs that will jump at the opportunity to GM that unique set of scenarios.

Playing with your regular group is the best way to pley Eyes!

You want to play Eyes with a group that knows each other. Characters that have traveled together. Players that have seen the same events unfold. Characters that have grown in the Society, not away from it. Season 1 and 2 scenarios, not modules, not Emerald Spire.

And you want to have the time and flexibility to not rush through it. Part one is billed at double length. It still took my group three sessions to complete. The rest was closer to regular scenario length, but there is a lot to experience. Don't lock yourself into a limited time slot, only to find yourself cut short.

Nearly all of my experience with PFS has been either over Play by Post or at Gen Con 2015. The character I would like to take through the series has been with a very regular PbP group, and we have developed quite a story with each other, which I am very fond of. Even not knowing anything about Eyes - this is the reason why I hoped to be able to play this scenario with them. Even since I have made this post, and brought it up in our regular semi-private thread there have been some volunteers to run it, either via PbP or if we could find a way to all get together.

I will look for a way to get this in with my regular group outside of the Con then, you have convinced me. Thanks for the awesome advice!

I did it over Roll20 and had an excellent time of it. If your group agrees, I highly recommend it.

Currently playing part 2 in a PbP and loving it. Far more character interaction and roleplaying than at a table and no feelings of rushing through it to fill a time slot. The format also gives you a lot of time to chew on all the little tidbits of story built in.

To add to this: my GM took time to find out what we'd played and when, in a largely successful attempt to customize it to each of us. (I've deliberately avoided reading any of it while we're still playing, so I don't know if this is suggested in the scenario itself or not; but it's a big plus either way.)

Thanks for reminding me of that, Chris. I also handpicked relevant scenarios for the players I was bringing up to play Eyes, and made sure to get their list of scenarios played to have the NPCs personally recognize and know the PCs and their accomplishments.

I appreciate the desire to play EotT, but I am not planning on scheduling any tables of it at Gencon. it seems that you have had offers of GMs and will be able to source it through them, so I will wish you good luck and high dice rolls!

Wow - Thanks for the response Tonya! Yea, they pretty well have me convinced that I don't need to worry about playing it at Gen Con. So much of my character, (and the whole group) has developed and grown on PbP that it actually feels much more fitting to tell his final story on the boards as well.

@Steven Schopmeyer - So what might some of those scenarios be? The group I am in has played a majority of their careers in season 6, with some smatterings all over the map. The hope was to hit the higher tiers in season 7 with these characters, but if it makes sense to filter in some of the early stuff in order to set the stage, I would love to look at that.

We have already been able to do some pretty cool stuff with reoccurring characters within the seasons, and I would say our RP through the PbP setting has been pretty amazing. (Good chance I am biased here, but I am not talking about myself. Those guys are good.) It would be great to salt in a few more memorable characters for the climax.

For those of you who are curious - Meet the Drongos as run by GM Damo. That is a pretty good representation of our group, including the extra-cirricular turkey chase scene before the scenario proper, though that was many levels ago...

Edit: Side note for GMs curious to possibly run Eyes for the Drongos, GM Damo would be participating as a player, not the GM. For GM Damo is actually the Mighty Lort, who's participation would be crucial to our success...

Steven Shopmeyer's Eyes was awesome. I was one of the lucky players to be in it, and we did spend a few months playing Roll20 games getting all of our characters to level 12.0. That meant that we had worked together quite a bit, knew each other, had in jokes, and had travelled together. I recommend doing it this way if you can.

(Also, now that Dorian "Pyro" Warden has attained Seeker status as (nominally) a direct agent for the ten, he loves to put into practice the behavior he's learned from Osprey. He'll find a group of random lower-level Pathfinders on a road somewhere, appear in front of them, give them something random to do, and then disappear.)

Don't worry, Steve.... We will be going through at least a few of them!

I have some good ideas on what to take you all through.

Even if you play through the low level ones with another character, it will really add to your experience! (your play experience, not your XP ;-) )

Eye see what you did there...

Agreed. Even if your character doesn't personally know about the history, knowing about it as a player will still help enrich the story for you.

Sczarni 3/5

Agreed to the above!
