Tier Question

Pathfinder Adventure Card Society

I know that it is optional to tier up if you obtain a card feat- but is it optional if you complete an adventure?

Say you are playing with two different groups with the same character. One is the Season 0 set, and one is the Season 1 set. If you finish the Adventure 1 of the 0 Season, can you opt out of receiving the Adventure award to prevent yourself from getting to the next tier, that way you can finish Adventure 1 of the 1 Season and then tier up?

In other words, if you finish all of the scenarios of an adventure, do you have the option of not taking the reward and therefore not completing the adventure?

I already understand about only getting 1 skill, power, and card feat per tier.

Going up a tier after finishing an adventure is not optional, at least not in the Guide 2.1.

Why not run two characters instead?

Because I do not like to reset the deck if I do not have to for the same class. To maintain two decks would be a headache.

I guess the question would more be of whether you complete the adventure when you complete all of the scenarios, or when you take the reward. So, in example, if you finish Scenarios 0-1A through 0-1F, do you automatically complete the adventure? Or could you just flag all the scenarios as complete but not take the reward for completing the adventure and therefore have it not considered as being complete?

You automatically complete the adventure if you successfully complete every scenario in the adventure. Taking the reward for a scenario or adventure is not synonymous with completing it -- if you pass up the reward the scenario or adventure is still complete; you just passed up your opportunity to benefit from that. You cannot take that reward at a later point in time once you pass it up.

I echo Parody's statement about playing two characters, give another class deck a try :)

I have all of the class decks, but I play with two different groups with the one class deck since we all try and bring the same guys. :)

It's not too hard to play two characters out of the same class deck box. The deck lists are available from Paizo. I print out two copies, write each character's name on the top, then use a pencil to mark which cards are in that character's deck. It takes only a few minutes to constitute a character's deck using the deck list.

There's also nothing stopping you from running two instances of the same character. (Perhaps different variations of the character, if it's one of the iconics.)

For what it's worth, I welcome getting to try different character types in the different campaigns. Currently I'm playing Amaryllis in Season of the Shackles and Agna in Season of the Righteous; I also have Harsk and Valendron with chronicles. I was switching between Harsk and Agna quite a bit for a while, but that third group seems to have disappeared. :(

Anyway, barring someone coming in and correcting our interpretations that adventure completion and subsequent Tiering up are not optional, you could still play however you want. Just stop reporting those scenarios.

Parody and others, you're correct.

Completing an adventure (meaning that you've completed all the scenarios in the adventure) automatically advances you to the next tier. Just remember that if you play the scenarios twice (that you've replayed each again) does not count again.

But since you're playing Season 0 with one group and Season 1 with the other, it is not replaying scenarios in your case.

I would recommend what others have, have two copies of the same character. That way you can use the same class deck.

[For Season of the Shackles, I kept two copies of Harsk going.]
