I've never seen kobolds as inherently dimwitted or stupid. Weird, absolutely, but never dumb. I've always pictured them as zealous and selfish, which is scary - if they want anything, they go at it with unnerving determination. And heaven help you if you try to take something they think belongs to them.

Maybe it's just me, but I've liked kobolds over creatures like goblins. Chiefly because they can think and plan out an encounter, and they regularly have very little to lose (and they know this), which makes them all the more nasty. Or admirable, if you like.

This exactly! In my mind, Kobolds are generally delusional and petty to be sure but certainly not dim witted.

I should have time to flesh out my submission this weekend. At present, while not necessarily the best leader, I am absolutely planning to focus my alchemist on playing up his draconic legacy. Between beastmorph and my discoveries, he'll have access to wings, a nasty breath weapon, and blindsense eventually. And if we were to make it to higher levels, taking Master Chymist would let him manifest a true draconic intelligence as his split personality. Perhaps channeling an ancestor or even a living dragon.

With the clarification that our extra d2 and d4 can be applied after racial modifiers, I'm presently considering going melee rather than bomber as I'd initially planned. Using my d4, I could pump strength to 17 at 1st level. Throw in my mutagen and he could be quite formidable indeed.

The way I look at it is that it's a very harsh world and kobolds start with a lot of disadvantages. They have to be clever and nasty simply to claw out the existence they've had. when you play kobolds as smart and working together they can swing way above their weight class.

I once ran a tribe of kobolds where they had their sorcerers making potions all day. Each of them had 3-5 enhancements- they uses scouting tunnels and spy holes to warn people so they could drink their potions. It almost turned into a TPK.

I've played something similar - a kobold sorcerer with his racial bloodline. I spent much of my time building a 'base' that we ran back to for recovery when it got hectic. I also took Animate Rope as one of my spells, to which everyone liked to laugh at and asked why. I told them "Would you rather run over the rope or the explosive rune?" I later used it to drop a landslide of rocks on a troll.

I love kobold casters because they make me think of how to use spells in new and devilish ways.

Kobolds make me think about new and devilish ways to use everything. There's nothing they can't twist to some terrible advantage given enough time!

On that note, I'd just like to state, as others have, how much I love the bonus teamwork feats. They will give our party the perfect sense of teamwork and ingenuity!

That's why I said it was a great idea to do the whole thing with the teamwork feats like the GM proposed. Smart idea of getting an even cooler group going on. And Kobolds for S&S is just great!

Behold, Sezzlik! Ugly, bitter, and (literally) salty, but not such a bad guy really.

Backstory:
When the shaman of the Black Moss tribe predicted that the chief would sire two powerful sorcerers, every kobold in the tribe was ecstatic. For ages, the only source of arcane magic in the tribe was a half-senile sorcerer who lived on the outskirts, so new magic blood was something the tribe needed quite badly. Later that week, the chief's mate laid her clutch. Among the usual assortment of colors, there where two eggs that stood out; a red egg that glittered like a gemstone, and a brown egg that constantly dripped saltwater. Taking their appearance as a sign, the kobolds eagerly awaited the egg's hatching.

When the red egg hatched, it seemed as though the tribe's prayers had been answered; the hatchling's scales were deep red with flecks of gold, and her pronounced horns clearly showed that she was a descendant of some mighty dragon. The kobolds accepted the youngster, and dubbed her Makeen. What came lurching out of the brown egg, however, gave them pause. With a puff of fishy air the egg cracked, showing a deformed runt with muddy patterns covering most of its natural black coloration and beady eyes that seemed to be mostly pupil. The chief was disgusted by the hatchling, and considered having it drowned discreetly. In the end, though, he decided that a future sorcerer was too valuable an asset to give up on, and decided to spare the loathsome creature, who was eventually named Sezzlik.

The hatchlings were raised communally, as was the tribal custom. However, while the beautiful and devious Makeen was treated with a measure of awe and respect, the mutant Sezzlik was merely tolerated-at best. At worst, Sezzlik was made to do menial labor, forced to do the disgusting and humiliating jobs that no other kobold wanted to do. The mutant took it on the chin, unquestioningly doing everything asked of him quickly and effectively. Sezzlik soon learned to bottle his frustrations, acting subservient in the hope that he would earn some respect, while taking his frustrations out on any small animals unfortunate enough to get close to him. This continued for years, with the other kobold's treatment of him growing crueler and crueler, and with Sezzlik becoming more and more bitter.

Eventually, Sezzlik grew tired of trying to gain his tribe's approval. The kobold scrounged up some gear, wrote a very strongly worded letter to his kin, and fled into the daylight. He traveled for several weeks, following strong urges he didn't completely understand, until he found himself by the coast, in the human town of Riddleport. Making a hovel underneath the floorboards of a local pub, Sezzlik resigned himself to a life of scrounging and hiding like an animal, hoping for his life to take a turn for the better.

I know that I have not put up a finished character for this, but I am going to withdraw from the running. Good luck to everyone.

When do we get to rock the boat?

Just noticed Gnarlpin and I share a portrait. His alias was just posted as a link so I didn't notice the overlap. Should we both be selected, I will of course swap mine out. You laid claim to it first Cuan.

Looking forwards to seeing how the crew gets gathered up and such. Always eager to see a (Insert Race here) party get up and going. It's rarely done.

I got into other Skulls and Shackles game so i'm out ... this Inquisitor of Dahak shall have to wait another Koboldy adventure..

This thread got really quiet. Results tomorrow, right?

I certainly hope so. Good luck everyone!
