As a fan of the old 3.5 Binder, I was quite interested in the Medium class from Occult Adventures, and I am thinking of either running or playing this path. I am a bit worried that it might be a bit of a spotlight hog, especially in the first adventure. Has anyone either played as a medium, or had one in their games?

I have not ran nor do I know of anyone who has ran the newer Occult classes in the AP. That said, the medium and occultist both look like they would shine in not just the first module, but parts of the other ones as well. Keep in mind that the AP is hard, so while being able to relate parts of the story is well and good, surviving it is another matter. Provided that such support classes had a compliment of other classes to keep them alive, I think it would work out really well.

I'm currently playing Carrion Crown, although we're in Broken moon, and we're bringing in a medium at the end of this chapter so I've been acquainting myself with the class.
A medium won't overpower the rest of the party in Haunting at Harrowstone, at least not until the very end of the chapter, as their non-spirit abilities don't start coming in until third and fourth level. There's a bit of a learning curve with mediums. (Addendum: for the Beast of Lepidstadt their versatility can be useful but again they won't shine; although there are definitely aspects of Broken Moon where they will shine.)
Halflings or humans are a good choice (halflings for their FCB: humans for their bonus feat and extra skill point). A high dex halfling with some con would be excellent because their AC would be incredibly high for the lower levels, plus their FCB is great for a medium.
Hope this helps.
