RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Apparently the nominations open tomorrow. Is anyone nominating or voting for these this year? I paid for a membership last year, so I'm entitled to nominate this year, although I've got nothing to offer for most of the categories. Anyone care to share what they're nominating?

Probably Elizabeth Bear's ETERNAL SKY TRILOGY for Best Novel (after WHEEL OF TIME's inspiration last year, the whole trilogy is eligible). TV is a tricky one, as I'm torn between ORPHAN BLACK Season 2 and GAME OF THRONES Season 4.

I'll second that. Not her best work, in my opinion (Either the Promethean Age books or the The Edda of Burdens, depending on my mood), but very good nonetheless. More accessible. And the not-Mongols are a fairly unexplored culture for fantasy.

Disclaimer: Bear's a friend of mine, but that doesn't change my opinion of her writing.

a) That is so awesome 0_0

b) Is that even possible?

As for television, for me it's all about Orphan Black. The show has a not inconsiderable list of shortcomings (I am the type of guy who finds it very easy to follow stories that are considered complicated, yet I have no idea what the hack is the plot of Orphan Black. Especially towards the end of each season it feels like things are happening at random, and by the end of the last episode I was just so confused I honestly couldn't tell which person is trying to do what and for what reason any more), however the lead actress is just so stunningly good in her performance that I want the show to be recognized as something exceptional.

As for books, I am young and have so many past books to catch up on that I am very probably years away from reading any novel eligible for a 2015 hugo award. It's a shame because some of them sound really great.

a) Isn't it. :)

b) probably not, but she's still damn good.

I've got no idea what's going on in the TV world. I haven't even seen Orphan Black, though it's on the list.

I'm not so young, but there are still a lot of books on my to read list and a lot of authors I want to read, but haven't found the time. That said, there's no reason not to read some modern stuff too. You don't have to read everything in chronological order.

Of the stuff I've read, I'd probably go for Eternal Sky as well.

Can't say I've read/watched enough to nominate anything in a different category. I do feel podcastle deserves something in whatever category they've put podcasts in, though. And on that thought, Tim Pratt and Heather Shaw's christmas story for that podcast as best short story, perhaps?

I haven't seen Orphan Black, Game of Thrones, or the latest season of Doctor Who, so I feel kind of out of the loop for the Short Form Dramatic Presentation category. I think I'll probably nominate "Too Many Cooks" and the finale episode of "Video Game High School." Possibly also "The Grove" on The Walking Dead.

As for novels, the only ones published last year that I've read are "World of Trouble" (the last in the Last Policeman trilogy) and "Monster Hunter: Nemesis," and I loved them both.

For short stories, I'm nominating "Enginesong" by Nathaniel Lee (it's a weird western in which the trains just get up and walk away, and a posse goes to chase them down) and "The Middle Rages" by... well, what do ya' know, it's by me!

Cool. I've met her (and Scott) twice, seems like a cool person.
