Where to start?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Hello all - So many options and I want to start playing Rise of the Runelords but not sure what to get. I know I need to get the Base Set 8-) but after that should I just get all the extra Adventure Decks to start with (that's a lot of cash)?

Is each Adventure Deck a separate campaign? It seems like it but it's not well worded in the description.

I will probably play solo for a bit so I don't think I need the character add-on for now. If my wife likes it and wants to play I can do that later.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

You should get the adventure decks in order, as they build on each other. When you finish deck 1, you add deck 2, leaving deck 1 in the mix still. And so on. Deck 1 comes in the base set.

Also, be aware that demand exhausted the initial print run, so there are 2 printings. You should try to get the second printing. All the products will either say "Printed in China" or "Second printing. Printed in USA" in the back of the box.

I'd also like to add my 2 cents: I highly recommend the Character Add-On just to have more character choices. More characters to choose from is rarely a bad thing :)

Thanks for the input.

Do you mean I should play with the Base set, then play again adding Deck 1, then play again using Decks 1&2, etc..?

Good advice on the printing, thanks. Hopefully there is a way to tell if I buy it online (not sure if it's in stock locally but willing to wait).

Yeah, I know. Just wanted to make sure I liked it first. A lot of add-ons and they aren't cheap. I wish they had a bundle where you could get all the decks at once at a discount.

Thanks - Steve

Each adventure deck comes with its own adventure and scenarios, with each adventure building on the last. You play the same characters, upgrading their powers and their decks as you play through each adventure. Over time, those checkboxes on your character cards will be checked off and make your character more and more powerful. Each adventure is an expansion that carries on the story and characters from the last.

Buying online you aren't likely to know for sure which printing you'll get, (outside of places like ebay where the person sells a single copy and may put in that info), mostly you'll find second print though I think.

A bundle with the whole path would be cool, but definitely at a later date. If you are just looking to try it out, I recommend getting the base set and character add on (more character choices, and more cards including ones unique to that add on), then buy each adventure as you progress through. This definitely helps pace out the payments.

Thanks Andrew, appreciate it. I'll stop by a couple local stores in the next day or so.
