In less than 10 days, the end will come for two of my beloved races. As the clock strikes 12 on the morning of August 15 (I assume thats PST so I get a couple extra hours ;)), tieflings and aasimars will be out of reach for new character development sans a boon sheet.
Before you have to pucker up and kiss your aasimars goodbye and tie your last ribbon on a tiefling, get in those final games while you still can. When the dust settles....GASP, maybe venture out and discover a new race. (Tengu and wayyangs are next for me.)
Goodbye good aasimar and good night my misunderstood tiefling.

In case you don't know what that means, if you played at least one scenario with your character as an aasimar or tiefling, then you will be able to continue to play your character just fine. Any new characters you make, however, cannot be aasimars or tieflings, nor any future planned characters that you currently have that have not played in a scenario.

There was a mass influx of Tiefling and Aasimar anchor babies since the announcement - I think there will be no shortage of them for some time to come.

This isn't entirely accurate. Playing the scenario isn't enough to grandfather an aasimar or tiefling - the character must have earned at least 1 xp. It's possible to play a scenario and get 0 xp :)

Sure, but I would also think it cruel for someone to play a scenario and not get the full XP and then say "Oh, you have a chronicle but didn't get XP, sorry! You can't play an aasimar."
I suppose you're correct and the rule is there to prevent abuse of "We started these 100 scenarios but didn't finish them, 0 XP but tons of aasimars/tieflings." But I feel it would be rather cruel to do such to a newbie, perhaps even a newbie who played his first game as an aasimar unknowing of all the backdrop, adding insult to injury when they already failed their first scenario.
Does seem rather unlikely, though, doesn't it?

Actually, it goes into effect August 14th (the first day of Gen Con)

If the character already has at least 1 XP, then you they're still grandfathered in. If they don't, may I point you to the Pathfinder Society Online Collective?

If my experience with those two races hadn't been coloured by my experience with their players, I'd probably be sad to see them go.
Unfortunately, I've not seen them chosen for flavour, but for power gaming...
But those players will just move onto something else I guess.
Ironically BOTH my Teiflings HAVE (to me) awesome back stories.

Sadly those who pick races for munchkining out and power gaming over everything else will do it with anything they're presented with.
I have three of each, and none of them are particularly optomized, but are all tons of fun.

I have an Aasimar character I wish to grandfather in. I have just finished Gming a scenario and have a chronicle I could apply to it. My question is, when I looked up on the Additional Resources page, it says you need a chronicle that opens the race up to you. Do you still require that in order to create an Aasimar?

You have until Thursday, the 14th; until then, v5.0 of the Guide is still in effect, and thus aasimar is still a legal race.
As for grandfathering a character with a GM chronicle, you just have to write the race on the chronicle; you don't have to register the character, and you don't even have to fully build them.

To quote from the blog post "New Options":
For several years, aasimar and tieflings have enjoyed a prominent role in the Pathfinder Society, but as the organization concludes its work in Mendev—where numerous pit-born fight for recognition and heaven-blooded warriors wage holy war—it's time for them to step back. Beginning on August 14th, creating an aasimar or tiefling character will require a special Chronicle sheet, as was the case years ago. The exception is any aasimar or tielfing character with at least 1 XP; these characters are grandfathered into the campaign.
Personally, I really don't want them to go. I've canned and set aside as many as I wanted for the future. However, I think it's silly that it had to come to that.
If anybody wants grief therapy counciling, I'll be over here. --->

I killed a half-orc running First Steps yesterday (Ledford strikes again!). The guy sitting next to him was playing a tiefling and only came to our store, where he normally doesn't play, just to show up and play this. He was very cautious to stay out of melee range in that one.

I have back stories for all my Limburger Cheese Characters, teifling, aasimar, and others.
My snow elf rime intensified snoball mage doing 8d6 + staggered + entangled, being sent out as an envoy to the pathfinder society.
My beatstick human cleric of gorum doing +8 (2d6+12) at second level, wake me up when it's time to fight, i ain't got time to heal you, let's go get drunk
My tengu archer inquisitor of Desna, just sent another beast home to lamashtu, sooner or later we will get that beast domain back from her.
The rakhasa spawn teifling gunslinger (mysterious stranger) who wanders the world looking for someplace to call home.
Even my stick up his butt, couldn't sense a motive with a map, can you realy be that annoying aasimar paladin.

The Wayangs dislike Humans, but the Strix out and out HATE them. (The feeling is mutual, at least as far as the humans who live in the areas where the Strix dwell.)

Ironically BOTH my Teiflings HAVE (to me) awesome back stories.
One of my two Aasimar's has an awesome backstory (to me anyways) as well (my Oracle of Battle). I developed it at the same time as I worked on the character. That was the main reason I wanted to play him first in order to get him grandfathered in to the campaign; otherwise, making him as a human just wouldn't have worked as well from a roleplaying perspective.
Sadly, I doubt I'll be able to tell his backstory often in play.
EDIT: Leaving his backstory in case anyone is actually interested:
He could not remember who he was, so integrated within his newfound home, married, and had children. Over time, this lineage produced decendants who looked Kellid, but had longer lifespans than for a normal Kellid.
Although excepted, there was a lot of gossip about this lineage.
Enter Okrin, who was part of this line. Strange events started to manifest themselves. First, the cold does not bother him as much as his peers (Cold Resistance 5), as well as his ability to see in the cold dark nights without light (Darkvision). Then he started to babble in a strange tongue (Celestial, Tongues Curse). This made the village fearful, and he was eventually exiled.
He wandered for many days and nights, alone, until he met a man who was a Pathfinder. This man helped him understand his powers and what his heritage actually was, and was brought into the Society as a field agent.
I've decided that this Pathfinder is the Shoanti Warpriest of Gorum named Bear-Burning Ashes, who helped me select Andoran as his faction

My aasimar life oracle has, what I think is, a pretty good backstory.
My tiefling paladin and tiefling rogue (fraternal twin brother and sister) have what I think is a phenomenal backstory. (hint: neither knows the other is alive!!!)
My aasimar archaelogist bard only has GM credit so far so I haven't even started working on her backstory other than that she is a pompous court bard from Galt.
My tiefling bad touch cleric (possible Unholy Vindicator) has the bare bones of a backstory that I just need to flesh out.

My Archeologists have personalities and backstories that are growing still. (For example, after some amazing acrobatics and climb checks, Shankar now yells 'Parkour!" right before he makes a jump.
I've three (maybe 4 after tonight) blobs of outsider, one assimar, two tieflings in case I have to move to Florida.*
*[spoiler]Most of my characters records are a mess, including the archeologists, so I wanted a couple spare outsiders if I have re relocate outside of Columbus, where that would be an issue.[spoiler]

A kiss of welcome to all my new fellow assimar. And I'll even give kisses to all you tieflings as well. Being descended from extra planar beings gives us something in common so I'm sure we'll be friends!
Now, for all of you who tried to get in games but couldn't, or died or whatever, here, you look like you need a hug.
Curvy, vivacious green haired girl
in short skirt and sweater and matching green freckles comes over and offers you a hug.
Now all you guys who are glad to see us plane touched leaving, I'm sorry you feel that way. If I meet any of those power gamers who left a bad taste in your mouth, I'd offer to beat them up but I'm not a fan of unnecessary violence and PvP is banned in Pathfinder Society. Can I give you a hug instead?
Same girl comes over and offers hugs to non plane touched fans.
Jessica Price, can I borrow that avatar? You know, the Azata Assimar one. Other than the lack of freckles it looks like it would fit perfectly. I promise to take really good care of it and pay for dry cleaning before I return the avatar to you.
To all of you, hope to meet you all at a gaming table soon.
Hugs,
Elinee
absurdly cheerful green haired/freckled aasimar leaves.

Evictus Omega....my last tiefling made prior to the end. Got my 1 xp credit on him late last night. (Btw, the reason behind the name is he is the last, Omega, of the line of tiefling/aasimars that I have prior to being kicked out of PFS :) )
I was so hoping the final boss of The Confirmation would get a crit on you. That die was rolling SOOOOOO well too...
Edit: I say that partly in jest because I know "Duncan" has like 37 tieflings and aasimars grandfathered in already. :p

For all the Parkour fans out there, check out the new Harry Dresden book. Fantastic.
@Bigdaddyjug, i did step-up to take the hit for our nearly dead barbarian. And yes, my meat locker is nicely stocked with tieflings-Aasimars. In fact, ive played them so much over the last 3.5 months that I'm longing to play another race. I might even play a hoommuun (thats how it's pronounced, right?)
