I did receive some good gifts yesterday.
Cash from my mother and two aunts.
The wife and kids got me several items:
Two Lord Dunsany books (The Gods of Pegana and The Sword of Welleran and Other Stories)
A 4K copy of Tremors
A 4K copy of Die Hard
A digital infrared thermometer
A t-shirt with a picture of Scar (from the Lion King), and it says "I'm surrounded by idiots"

However.....
Work is still a struggle to find things to do because we don't have a lot of new stuff coming in. Then yesterday we had a meeting with the big boss. It was partly about people not keeping regular hours. Not something I have to worry about.
The other part was about some folk apparently using unauthorized software to make it look like they were always working. Frankly, I didn't even think we could get something like that on our computers, since IT controls what goes on pretty strictly. Apparently, there's a work around where you can have the software loaded onto a flash drive. You ask me? It's a waste of a good flash drive.

Anyway, a little while after the meeting, I went and had a sit down with the big boss. I told him I feel kind of bad because I don't have a lot of project work to do. I try to fill my time with relevant stuff, mostly reading up on new subjects, or working with the software we use on a regular basis. Even still, there are times I'm just kind of sitting here.
He did say that management is trying to refocus on bringing in more work. There was a big, clusterf%&k of a project that was pulling in their time, but that looks to be coming to a close.

And we had a crazy day at work yesterday. The guy they hired as Lead Mechanical Engineer just a few weeks back up and resigned. Apparently, he had some objection to the big boss declaration that you had to be in the office for a certain amount of time each day, during certain hours.
It's a shame. I kind of liked him. He wasn't an outright a-hole, and he was really smart. Oh well.

We had a notice from our IT people about an attempt to do stuff to our work system. Apparently, someone called a coworker through Teams claiming to be part of our IT team, then proceeded to take control of that coworker's computer and try to run some scripts. Our system caught the attempt and stopped it, but they still wanted to warn us.
Personally, I don't understand how someone could not be so paranoid about a caller they don't know. Even on Teams. Hell, especially on Teams.

Earlier this week we had made some fresh red beans and rice here at home. I promised my coworker a quart bag full of leftover and gave it to him on Tuesday. He and his significant other finally got around to eating it on Wednesday. He texted me afterwards to let me know they thought it was delicious.

Well, I do regard my first post as "much of a post". I had long felt this desire to talk about my experiences with Dungeons and Dragons, so when I finally came out of my shell in 2009, I rambled on about one story for thousands of words.
I posted many, many messages shortly thereafter; I had so much I wanted to say. Less than a year later, in 2010, I marked my 1000th post. (For some reason, that link doesn't work so well, not scrolling down to the right spot, but just use the "Find" command in your browser and scan for "1000".) Well, THAT wasn't much of a post. I specifically made that point.
Heh. And my 1000th post got the reply:
Gratz on the 1K mark Aaron!
1,000 is an achievement. 10,000 they start looking at you funny. 30,000 you contract lycanthropy and move to Texas :P
I wonder what an appropriate number would be for a ZOMBIE in Texas.
Anyway, after that I slowed down somewhat. I noted my 2000th post more than two years later, in 2013. Once again, I even mentioned that it wasn't much of a post... or at least, not a positive one. But... hey, I wouldn't call it a-hole-ish, either (although some people might disagree with me about that).
After that, I lost interest, and my posting slowed WAY down. I must have posted my 3000th message here in 2023, but I didn't note it at the time. I wasn't even thinking about that.
I still have fun on these boards, though (albeit less frequently).

Well....I could explain.
I had a cardiologist appointment yesterday afternoon. While I was on my way to said appointment, the Scoutmaster for my son's troop texted to ask me a favor. He wanted to know if I could stop off at the Scout Shop and pick up two books for the Movie Making Merit Badge. That's the badge the scouts are working on this weekend on their camping trip.
Anyway, since my appointment was in Tomball, the path to the scout shop was pretty direct from there. And since the comic book store was between the cardiologist and scout shop, I decided to stop in there as well.
