Today is supposed to be the start of several days of rain for us. Good for my lawn. Inconvenient for me. At least I don’t have any outside work to do.
Stayed up a bit too late last night. It was already after 8 pm when I decided to rewatch The Batman. Great movie, but that 3+ hour run time is killer. I think they could have shortened it a bit by reconfiguring that third act.
Anyway, the movie didn’t end until after 11 pm. While I took the dog out to potty, I sent the wife upstairs to check on our daughter. As I suspected, she was still awake and quietly reading her book.
So we’ll all be dragging ass today. Some more so than others. I never need as much sleep as they do.
The boy takes after me in the regard. Except he doesn’t need the coffee like I do.
Speaking of the Boy…..
He had a function at school last night. It was a “party”. I guess that’s what they call them now instead of “dance”. His friend’s mom picked him up, and was brining them both. She picked them up afterwards, and the boy spent the night at his friend’s house.
One of us will pick him up later today. At least, I think so. Might be they had plans to drop him off here.
At least with everyone else either tired or not here, I have a nice quiet morning. Even the dog is being pretty chill.
Debating what I want to do this morning. Maybe play a little D4. Or perhaps do some mapping. Or some reading.
Whatever I do, it can’t be as long as usual on a Saturday. The wife doesn’t seem to be feeling well (welcome to the club). Which means there’s a good chance I’ll need to shower and hit the grocery store early so that I can be the one to bring my daughter to art class.
We’ll see how the morning goes. My wife may surprise me.
Almost time for cup of coffee #2. I’m trying to space them out a bit more here at home. I’m pretty good about that at work. Here is going to take a bit more effort.
And I may try to skip my third morning cup.
And tomorrow is that stupid clock change. Ugh! I’d love to see who’s making money off this.
The sun is apparently coming up. It’s just hidden behind a crap ton of clouds.
I was going to write some variation on “time to make the donuts”, which made me recall the wife promising to get Dunkin Donuts for our baby girl this morning.
Considering they both stayed up later than usual (for them), and that my wife isn’t feeling well, I wonder if she’ll succeed in putting it off until tomorrow.
Happy Sunday!
More like Rainy Happy Sunday.
We had a good bit of rain yesterday. And while today is still cloudy and gloomy, I think we're only supposed to get a little bit more rain. Same goes for the next few days.
We need it though.
My wife did end up getting the girl donuts. She picked up some donut holes for me, as well. Unfortunately, the donut people screwed up the order and gave my daughter donuts with frosting she didn't like.
Otherwise, yesterday was a pretty typical Saturday. Grocery shopping. Comic book store. Daughter's art class. Laundry. Some reading. Some (video) gaming. Some TV watching.
Oh, and a bit of mapping in the morning. Which I'll probably follow up this morning.
When looking for something to watch in the evening, for some reason I landed on the old tv series Monk. The wife and I were big fans of the show when it originally aired.
I hadn't been aware until yesterday, but apparently they did a TV movie special with Monk last year sometime. Unfortunately, it was on a streaming service we don't have (Paramount+, I think).
I may have to check and see if I can rent it from Amazon. I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I won't do that "sign up for a streaming service just to watch one show" anymore. And I can't think of anything else Paramount+ would have to offer.
Today should be rather uneventful. Which is fine by me, since I need to take it easy. I've got a bit more laundry. I've got to put some chicken in a marinade for grilling later today. That's about the extent of stuff I "need to do". Everything else falls under the heading of stuff I "should do".
One of those "should do" things is to call my brother and confirm the Order of the Arrow is collecting leftover Halloween candy. I need to get rid of mine.
I should probably also Facetime with my mother. It's been a few days.
My other "should do" debates are between reading more or boarding & bagging. If I can discipline my mind enough, I might be able to do a bit of both.
I'm toying with the idea of getting a new book shelf, one just for what remains of my tabletop rpg books. Something I can stick upstairs, out of the way. And if I get a big enough one, I can even put my old 2E box sets on it.
I had nearly forgotten the re-release of Godzilla Minus One in theaters for the 70th Anniversary. So we went to a 1:15 showing. It was awesome!
Ugh! With all the other stuff my phone seems to pick up from my conversations around it, you’d hope “I already voted” would get through. But nooooo…..
And, lest I forget…..
…..STOOPID DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME.
I suppose, anyway. Tough to say what this week is going to be like.
As far as work goes, it's a big question mark. I know I've got a hydro test to "witness" tomorrow. Not sure who put the test documents together, except that it wasn't me. Beyond that.....
Scouting will be somewhat busy this week. I've got a committee meeting tonight. It'll be the first one without the old scoutmaster, so that should be a little more pleasant. The regular meeting will be tomorrow. That'll be campout planning for this weekend.
And then there's all the usual life stuff.
The drive in was pretty easy this morning. I think it helped I was a few minutes ahead of schedule. Mostly because I woke up several minutes before my alarm would have gone off.
Tomorrow's drive in should be even better. The kids are off school because of "pick the worst people" day, so I can leave for work as soon as I'm done getting ready.
Today here at work we start our new PTO system for salaried employees. So I can finally put in my leave for the holidays.
Anyway, time to not make the donuts.
Rainy and miserable. Exactly how I expected this day to be. I won't say "Happy Tuesday", since I know it won't be happy for a great many people.
And the people it will be happy for are not the kind of people I would wish happiness upon.
And I had trouble sleeping this morning. So I ended up getting out of bed early. The bright side to that is traffic was relatively non-existent. At least until I ran into a bunch of granny drivers near the interstate.
And, of course, I was in such a foul mood this morning I forgot my bread to make toast at home. So I'll have to scrounge something up for breakfast. It'll probably end up being a bag of pretzels.
At our troop committee meeting last night, the old scoutmaster was there. And I'm not really sure why. He's not the scoutmaster anymore. Therefore, he shouldn't be at a committee meeting.
He once again tried to antagonize me. I don't care why, though it probably has something to do with my brother not taking any of his crap. As for me, I've gotten pretty good at ignoring pathetic little trolls.
Although, to be honest, this butthead ex-Scoutmaster is anything but little. Pretty sure I saw a peg-legged old man with a harpoon looking for him.
Otherwise, that meeting was fun. We had it at this local Mexican restaurant. I had already eaten dinner, so didn't order anything. I did snack on some chips, though. Probably more than I should have.
Unfortunately for the other committee members, I'm getting more comfortable around them. Which means I can be myself more.
Pity them.
I have a much darker sense of humor than most of them have probably ever dreamed of. Hell, a few of them sent me friend requests on the Book of the Face. I accepted. Something which I'm sure several of them are regretting now.
I don't really want to be in the office today. There's not much going on here. And what little is going on is boring and tedious.
I've also been kicking myself in the butt the last few days. There have been several occurrences recently where I forgot to write some small thing down, and now I can't recall.
For example, I had what I thought was a really cool idea for an evil organization in a fantasy setting. Mostly the name was cool. Forgot to write it down, now I can't remember.
Another example...
A few weeks ago I ordered some back issue comics from a website. I'm fairly certain I established an account with them, but I might have forgotten to write down the password.
I have someplace where I record these things but checked it last night and there was nothing. It's possible I put it in a note to myself and forgot to transfer that information to the usual place.
So....senior moments. As my mother likes to call them. Sucks, but when you've got so much crap going on, I suppose it's inevitable.
Well, yesterday was boring as hell.
On the plus side, I ran two Boards of Review at the meeting last night.
One was for the new Scoutmaster's youngest boy. He's a year younger than my boy, and already two ranks ahead of him. That's an impressive scout. He seems very motivated.
The second BOR was for one of the older scouts. He's a senior in high school, high-functioning, and only joined the troop about 2 years ago. Last night we awarded him his Life Rank. So now he's just got Eagle to go. And I think he'll get it. He's one of the most focused and dedicated young men I've ever met. An even more impressive scout.
