And my stomach survived the lunch they offered, which was fajitas and such. I limited myself to some of the chicken (plus fajitas wrap) and a few chips.
I got home a bit earlier than usual from the conference but still had to jump on the work computer for a new project kick off meeting. That one is named after a John Wayne movie.
Then last night I went over to the scoutmaster's house. While he conducted a few scoutmaster conferences, I ran four boards of review. So that was fun.
Still, by the time I got home, it was quarter to 9. I didn't have time to watch a movie, so I jumped on to BG3. Probably didn't help my injured wrist.
And here we are.....
Back in the office and (hopefully) ready for whatever the day has to throw at me. We shall see.
Ugh. I am glad the work day is over with. It wasn't particularly bad, just very boring.
And there was at least one complete moron on the drive home. The kind of driver who is so timid, they shouldn't be allowed to have a license.
Although the wife is in Louisiana, I convinced her to use Door Dash to order the boy and I some dinner. Basically, she's buying my silence. I promised I won't tell the daughter about the re-release of K-Pop Demon Hunters in the theater for Halloween weekend.
We shall see.
The drive to the office was pretty decent, despite some higher power's attempts to make it otherwise. I suppose that's a pretty good start.
As I stated yesterday evening, however, the day here at work had been fairly boring. Hoping today will be different. We do have a package going out, and I've got at least three meetings, so there's hope.
It's kind of sad, I suppose. I used to despise meetings. Now I like them for the simple fact it gives me something to do.
Speaking of something to do....
Last night after dinner, I jumped back on BG3. Got to a point where I defeat an evil wizard trying to steal immortality from the daughter of Selune. Looted his tower. I finished off with my character taking the portal under his tower to the vault under Sorcerous Sundries. I was tempted to go through the vault right away. It was already after 9:30, so I needed to get to bed.
I'll probably pick up on that again tonight.
Then I'm going to get Minsc. I didn't do that on my first play through but am determined to do it for this one.
While I was fixing my breakfast (toast and coffee) here at the office a little while ago, I was filling the reservoir on the coffee machine. I didn't feel like filling it up all the way, but I always at least put more water in that what I'm taking out.
That got me....contemplating.
I'm always trying to come up with new points to bring up with the scouts during boards of review. Especially the Eagle BORs. So I thought about that idea of "giving back more than you get". I suppose you can call that being generous.
So the point I'm trying to make is regarding the Scout Law:
As Scout is...
Trustworthy
Loyal
Helpful
Friendly
Courteous
Kind
Obedient
Cheerful
Thrifty
Brave
Clean
and Reverent.
I often ask the scouts "If you could add one thing, what would it be?"
So, I think "generous" is something I might add. Because being generous helps set a good example. And setting a good example is what we try to instill in these scouts.
Because if everyone behaved like they were trying to set a good example, I think the world would be a much better place.
I wonder how many politicians ever made it far in scouts? I'd bet not many of them. And I sincerely doubt many of them made it to Eagle.
Sad to say, I never made it to Eagle. That's probably one of the few regrets of my life.
Anyway...now I feel maudlin. Except I don't get teary eyed. And I rarely drink.
Something more....
I saw an article that had bits from an interview with someone from AMC. I think it was the company president, and he was saying he thought the Walking Dead franchise could run another 15 years. Being I was only peripherally aware it was even still going I was still shocked. I thought "how many different ways can they say the same thing? That people are worse than the zombies."
Then I realized, we're talking about Hollywood. They'll keep beating that undead horse until it's nothing but bones. Then they'll continue until the bones are nothing but dust.
Apparently, my supervisor took the new kid out to the field.
sniff He never took ME out to the field.
Just kidding. Thank the gods. I like my nice, comfy desk. Though trips out to a site are often at least somewhat interesting.
Just heard from the wife that my daughter is hanging with my mother today. That’s cool.
Ugh! Typically, I’d be about to leave work for the day. However, the damn designers are running slow with the last few drawings for the package we’re supposed to issue today.
This is what happens when management gets rid of or drives off the other designers. You get left short-handed and have trouble issuing documents in a timely manner.
So now we’re into “Me” time. Unhappy Zombie.
Especially since I don't have to go to the office today! Huzzah for remote work!
At the moment, I'm sitting at the kitchen table, having some coffee and toast. Waiting for the boy to wake up so he can come downstairs and I can go up. This way, I don't have to lock the dog in her kennel.
Although, to be honest, I don't think she would engage in any misbehavior since I'm actually home.
I eventually got out of the office yesterday, around 45 minutes late. Traffic wasn't too bad though. And the wife used Door Dash for us again to order some Outback.
I did not have steak, however. I've been very successful over the last few years at cutting way down on red meat. Instead, I get their chicken. It's pretty good.
After dinner I played way too much BG3. Stayed up until 11pm, which is past my bedtime.
Then this morning, after taking the dog out to potty (and taking my meds), I tried to go back to sleep but couldn't. So, I jumped back on BG3 and did just a bit of play. Enough to level up the character I need for this next quest, which I believe ends in fighting an undead dragon. Huzzah?!?
The way I see it, any kind of dragon should have some pretty decent treasure.
And I got Minsc as a companion! That's something I never did during my first play through.
Something else I didn't do during my first playthrough - find the hidden room with the genie lamp during my raid of the Sorcerous Sundries Vault. Thankfully, I already knew how to get out of that trap.
Anyway, I don't expect much in the way of actual work today. I'll probably spend some time reading through industry standards. MY supervisor did say he wants to get me out in the field more. Which would be fine by me.
Ye gods! Is nothing sacred anymore?!? I saw an article discussing Netflix's upcoming adaptation of that classic revenge story by Alexander Dumas: The Countess of Monte Cristo. Seriously?!?
What a bunch of asshats.
We can't have anything nice anymore.
Damn! That dragon fight in BG3 was fun. The challenges to unlock it were more of a pain in the ass than the dragon himself. Dragon fight actually only lasted two rounds. We had him down to way less than 100 hit points by the end of the first round.
By "we", I mean the party, of course.
And, geez! The Universe had it out for me at lunch time. Seems like every idiot in the area was running errands around that time.
Debating if I want to take a break from BG3 later and just watch a movie. Or maybe even just read something.
Last night, I both played BG3 AND watched a movie. Didn't want to do one over the other.
In BG3, we confronted the scumbag Sharrans at the hidden temple in Baldur's Gate. And we kicked the crap out of them. I finished off Viconia with a knife to the chest. Shadowheart rescued her parents. And all is right with the game.
Although some of that, mostly the aftermath of the fight against the cult, was done this morning. The main fight was last night. Not a single one of my people took damage. Though we did lose one of our summoned creatures.
Next up, I'll track down Orin and her little murder cult.
As for the movie....
I finally introduced the boy to Halloween, the original 1978 slasher classic. I think he was impressed. This is the 4K copy I bought over the summer. It was sweet. And sufficiently creepy.
The wife and daughter should be driving home today. At least that's what the wife texted me last night. So it'll be nice to have the entire family back together after a week. I'm sure the dog will go crazy.
