After dinner last night, I fiddled around for a bit, then got around to my TV watching. Finished off Terminal List: Dark Wolf. Then I started on the new season of Alice in Borderland. Watched four episodes, then realized it was 11:30.
Terminal List: Dark Wolf had an epic finish that nicely set ups the events of the first series. I've been impressed with both series so far. Once I'm done with Alice in Borderland, I might go back and rewatch the original Terminal List.
Alice in Borderland is...a lot different from Seasons 1 & 2. Those two seasons had a solid story that got wrapped up nicely. This season builds off those two but seems too rushed. There's hardly been any time to really build up new characters. And the mystery of why this is happening has barely been touched. Two episodes to go. We'll see if they decide to keep going after this.
Anyway, not much work stuff going on today that I know of. I've got a phone call scheduled for 10 am. Beyond that....?
The wife and I might go to Wacky Mongolian for lunch. I had Chinese with coworkers yesterday for lunch but didn't tell her. I want Wacky!
And in a rare occurrence, Facebook has given me a weird news story to post about in the other thread. It was a Not the Bee article, but I'm sure I can find it somewhere else.
I might try reading up more on NACE requirements. They're mostly material related, which we seem to be pretty well covered on for the project with NACE. It never hurts to be a little more informed, though.
To be honest, however, most of those requirements will come in with the welding and fabrication.
Also, does anyone know a good way to get paint off a bathroom counter and sink? Asking for a friend.
Cool. Had an interesting call with a recruiter. I like to keep searching for new jobs these days. Partly because it's nice to have a back up. The other part is keeping my interview skills fresh.
Anyway, the dude was pretty chill. I don't expect much to come out of this. I'm fairly certain I've applied directly with this company for the same position a few months back. So I doubt they'd move forward with me.
And then....curses!
The wife is complaining of stomach problems, and might not want to go eat Wacky Mongolian today. Which means I'd probably go to my default of something less healthy.
Not to say that Wacky Mongolian is super healthy, but it's at least got not fried chicken and veggies.
I managed to restrain myself from getting fast food for lunch. Not sure if grocery store rotisserie chicken is much better. I'd like to think it is.
Anyway, I really didn't want fast food, and since the boy was complaining we're out of pretzels....
Although I stayed up too late (for the second night in a row), I still got a decent night's sleep. And the weather is nice and cool this morning, somewhere in the upper 60s.
Not much going on today. That I can think of anyway. The usual, of course. And I may try to run some errands this afternoon. I need some new work shoes, and maybe a new pair of sweat pants.
I may also see if either Walmart or Target carry poster frames that have UV protection. I've got my poster art from Dracula Book II: The Brides to frame and hang up.
I had a song stuck in my head a few minutes ago. It was an older song, maybe 80's or 90's, and it popped in there out of nowhere.
Of course, now that I wanted to write about it, it has slipped my mind again.
I finished off Season 3 of Alice in Borderland. It was equal parts okay and groan inducing.
I also finished off season 4 of Orphan Black. So now I'll work through season 5 of that show, then maybe pull a rewatch of The Terminal List.
Well, I got most of the stuff I needed to get done accomplished. Except the sweatpants I bought are too big in the waste. I knew I shouldn't have bought a not-Hanes brand.
It's a beautiful, bright, sun shiny morning, with temps in the upper 60s. Not too bad.
And....now it appears I need a new keyboard. The boy has apparently destroyed the space bar on this one. I shall have to beat him with the Pool Noodle of Death.
Though I really should have named it the Pool Noodle of Doom. Sadly, the "of Death" name is already written on it.
Still, at least I already have a reason to go over to Walmart. I've got to return the sweat pants I foolishly bought yesterday. They are too big in the waist. They're a different brand than the Hanes I used to buy, but Walmart apparently doesn't carry that brand anymore.
So, while I'm there, I can get a new keyboard and mouse. And if he breaks this new keyboard, I change the pin on the computer so he can't use it anymore.
Otherwise, I don't have much planned for today. I'll do laundry, of course. And I'll probably put up Halloween decorations, finally. And hopefully get some reading done.
Tonight for dinner, I decided we are having boiled shrimp. Bad for my cholesterol, though, so we rarely do this.
And after last night I'm about half-way through the final season of Orphan Black. I'm hoping I can finish it by tomorrow night.
Huzzah! New keyboard. With a working spacebar!
And I was in error earlier. It was not Hanes sweatpants I had. It was Fruit of the Loom. Weird. Still, Walmart does not carry that brand either.
My wife ate some of my leftover turkey yesterday (without asking), so now I don't have anything for lunch today. Grrr....
On the other hand....
I forgot to get garlic yesterday at the grocery store. This would be bulbs to go in the shrimp boil. And my wife forgot to get the garlic in her run over to Kroger earlier. And I forgot to get the garlic in my run to Walmart.
So now she's going back out to get the garlic and some lunch.
I’ve been reminded far too often lately just how much some people can be #%$-licking little turds. Especially when they just repeat the same, inane crap over and over.
Then again, that might be an insult to #%$-licking little turds.
Of course not. It's Monday. The day of the week where joy goes to die.
I did at least have a decent drive to work. Once I got around a few jackasses, that is.
Though I did have a bit of a rough time getting out of bed and moving. I chalk that up to age, not liking this place, and those random health issues that occasionally crop up.
Anyway, my immediate supervisor is out of the office all week. He went on a cruise, I think.
And we've got a new kid starting tomorrow (again, I think). She's another mechanical engineer, but I'm being told they plan to move her into project management. I don't quite believe that, but we shall see.
I've got my own plans anyway.
That's the problem with people thinking they're so much smarter than everyone else. They can't conceive of one of those other people seeing through their bullcrap and making plans of their own.
I know I'm smart, but I also know I'm rarely the smarter guy in the room. Unless the room is filled with like 1st graders or something. Even then, you can never know these days.
And so it begins. There are....other people here now.
Perhaps another cup of coffee will sooth my disturbed spirit.
One of the scouts has completed all his work to get an Eagle Board of Review. He asked for either this Wednesday or the next, as he's busy most other days of the week.
Unfortunately, the district advancement chair who runs the EBORs and is one of two people who sign the card when the pass the board and earn Eagle (the other being me) is unavailable for the next THREE Wednesdays. So his EBOR got pushed back to the 22nd of October.
Luckily, the kid is only 15. His parent's are pushing he and his younger brother to both get Eagle before they can get a driver's license. I suspect once the does get it, we won't see much of him anymore. Then, once his brother gets it, I suspect we won't see any of the family anymore.
The dog tried to eat my loaf of bread today.
I had noticed something recently - the white coloration on the bread packaging was sticking to, and rubbing off on, my counter top. The only thing I can think of is they store suddenly decided to go cheap on their in-house bread packaging.
So, the other day I got out a role of our cabinet liner, and cut a square of it for the bread to sit on top of. The dog apparently took the liner as a challenge, and tried to pull it off the counter to destroy. When she pulled it, the bread came off first, so she grabbed that instead.
The wife eventually got the bread away from her. There are a few wholes in the packaging, but otherwise it seems just a bit banged up. Still, I might only eat some tomorrow, then throw the rest away.
And that's the story of how I decided we need a bread box.
It is not a story for the faint of heart....
