Especially since one of the things they'll be demonstrating is Flexible Digital Radiographic Testing. It uses a flexible panel that can bend around the pipe, instead of film or a plate. And the sources are low-Curie, so the distance you have to keep is much less. It makes for a faster process, with smaller barricade areas.

Scarab Sages

When I worked with the company back in the day, the DRT we did was with plates. That took several days to do one ship.

Scarab Sages

And now I'm thinking it would be cool to get a demonstration like that in the office. Or maybe a site visit to the company's facility here in Houston.

Scarab Sages

Of course, it would have been nice if the Quality Manager had let everyone know this in advance, instead of just now telling us. He buried the news of the visit in a newsletter he sent out on Tuesday. Not nearly enough time to organize a decent site visit.

Scarab Sages

Oh good! It appears the books I ordered may get here today, instead of tomorrow. These are copies of some Planet Stories books I was missing.

Scarab Sages

And before I forget......

AVAST, ME HEARTIES!!!! HAPPY TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!!!

Scarab Sages

Well, lunchtime was....interesting.

I nearly got into two accidents. In both cases, I had the right-of-way, but the other person decided they'd prefer to cut right in front of me. Thankfully, I am often on the lookout for anyone who drives like a monkey in heat.

Scarab Sages

And the second time, which was when I was turning back into the subdivision, caused my daughter's drink to spill all down onto the floor of my truck. So, I had to pull the mat out to dry on the back porch.

Scarab Sages

Then I suppose the Universe decided to try for a little balance. I had ordered a 3-piece from Popeye's, and they gave me four pieces instead. Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

Happy Saturday?!?

Scarab Sages

I wish I could say "yes". The said answer is probably "not so much".

Scarab Sages

Yesterday, as the wife was preparing to leave for a brief get together with her kickboxing group, her car would not start. I think it might just be a dead battery. Unfortunately, the way my truck is designed it seems near impossible to jump start another vehicle without removing parts from under the hood. Not a great design.

So I let her take my truck to her little get together. And today my usual routine gets thrown to the wolves while I deal with her vehicle problems.

Scarab Sages

Thing is, she briefly mentioned that her car was having problems in a text to me earlier in the week. While I was busy at work. So I promptly forgot.

Scarab Sages

And my stomach is bothering me a bit more than usual.

Scarab Sages

So, short and sweet today. I've got a few more posts to make, here and elsewhere. Then it's time to get a quick shower and head off to the grocery store. That way I should be back before the daughter has to go to her art class. I might have to save the comic book store for later this afternoon.

Scarab Sages

Made my quick trip to the grocery store. It would have been quicker, but the managers at the grocery store are at least slightly incompetent.

When we entered, there were two full-cashier stations and about nine express lanes for 15 items or less. By the time we were ready to check out (maybe 20-30 minutes), there was only one full blown cashier station with 3 people waiting. After a minute or two a manager stepped in to open another register. I helped with bagging to speed things along.

Took a look at the wife’s car battery. Checked the water levels, and they seemed a bit low, so I topped them off. I’m still pretty sure the problem is the battery. We don’t know how old it is, and the thing got progressively worse as I tried to start it yesterday, until it just stopped doing anything.

Since my vehicle seems ill-suited by design for jump starting, the wife called for roadside assistance to give it a jump. If we can get it started, she’ll take it to get a new battery. If it doesn’t start, we’ll probably have it towed to the Honda dealership. I hate to do that, since the local auto shop is way cheaper, but he’s closed on the weekends.

Scarab Sages

I find it amusing that a douchebag little a-hole who spent years vilifying a large segment of the populace now expects that segment to come roaring to his defense.

Karma, as they say, is a b%#?h.

Scarab Sages

A quick note on my brief sojourn back into the world of car maintenance - I had forgotten how much actual joy I take in performing such work.

Scarab Sages

I saw a rumor the villain for Matt Reeves (eventual) Batman sequel would be Hush. Seriously?!? There are numerous (and far better) villains who deserve to get a shot at a good film adaptation.

Poison Ivy
Two-Face
Mad-Hatter
Hugo Strange
Mr. Freeze
Ventriloquist
Black Mask
Deadshot
Firefly

That’s just off the top of my head.

Scarab Sages

And, yes, some of those have already seen treatment on the screen. Recall, however, that I clarified “good” adaptations. Most have been “not good” to downright craptastic. Or have perhaps decent adaptations in craptastic shows or movies.

Scarab Sages

HA! I was right! It was the battery. And the alternator for good measure. Both have been replaced. Still, it was a good bit of cash. Might be time to start considering a new vehicle. That one is only 17 years old.

Scarab Sages

As the years have passed, I’ve come to accept I’m a creature of habit. I will say, however, at least my habit doesn’t seem to be repeating the same pathetic crap as if it’s truth, over and over again.

Scarab Sages

Rewatching Alice in Borderland, and I can’t help but think these heart games almost go in the reverse of which they’re shown. At least as far as insidious brutality goes.

Scarab Sages

Happy Sunday?!?

Scarab Sages

Well, knowing I have to go to the office tomorrow does kind of put a damper on the whole day. And I am a bit hungover. So maybe not "happy". Maybe just "meh".

Scarab Sages

On the other hand....

Perusing Facebook this morning, and one of my Facebook Friends had posted a video about the BBQ Platter of Doom. Complete with it's very own heavy metal song.

I don't know which impressed me more: the actual delicious looking platter, or that someone took time to write and record a metal song about it.

Scarab Sages

It's the kind of thing that gives me hope we can actually make it as a species.

Scarab Sages

And the song will probably be stuck in my head the rest of the day.

Scarab Sages

Especially since I shared the video on my Facebook feed.

Scarab Sages

I guess that makes me old (other than actually being old, of course)? Having a Facebook page I actually use? Mostly I just post stupid crap. However, that's also where I have a separate page for the RPG Maps I create. And the scout troop has a page there as well.

And I can keep in touch with other old people I know. Some of them I even kind of like.

Scarab Sages

I was going to oversee the boy giving the dog a bath this morning. However, yesterday he made separate plans to go spend the night at his buddy's house. Oh, well.

I suppose I could give the dog a bath myself. I am rather fond of back pain and exhaustion.

Scarab Sages

You know, another Facebook Friend posted something about never seeing a commercial of any kind for Chinese food. That got me thinking.....

Same thing. Never seen any kind of commercial for it.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, beyond possibly being a glutton for punishment, I've got some laundry to do today. And maybe some reading.

Scarab Sages

I might even try for a bit of cataloging. I've been slacking on that.

Scarab Sages

I was in the shower contemplating the universe (as I often do), and found myself considering one of those wretched phrases that inundate our society. I had a big long spiel prepared on it, many deep thoughts. I realized I couldn’t post them here without getting perma banned after some internet Karen reported me.

It’s sad, because I thought I had some really good points. I might try to unload them on someone reasonable one day.

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Then I told my wife I probably had enough content from my shower musings to fill ten years worth of YouTube content (if I were inclined to such a thing).

I could feel her eyes rolling in her head from another room.

Scarab Sages

Happy Monday?!?

Scarab Sages

Well, I am back in THAT place. Though at least my drive here was pretty decent. Not perfect, but I take what I can get.

Scarab Sages

I doubt there's much of interest going on in the office today anyway. At least one meeting, but that's a weekly thing. I doubt there'll be any real work.

Still no word on when the new person is supposed to start. I may try and ask around about that. I have my suspicion as to when they might time her start.

Scarab Sages

I did manage to get in some reading and cataloging yesterday! Huzzah on both counts!

Scarab Sages

And my daughter helped me clean the kitchen. So that was something positive done.

Scarab Sages

I also gave the kids a box and told them to start putting stuff in it they don't want anymore (old toys, etc). I'm hoping to go through it all and set stuff aside for a community garage sale coming up (November, I think).

Scarab Sages

I've also got some stuff out in the garage that needs to go. Each kid has a bicycle that's way too small for them now (and which they never really learned to ride anyway). My daughter also has a scooter she wanted for Christmas but never bothered to use.

I may also go through some of the movies we have and get rid of ones I don't want anymore. Looking at you Captain Marvel and Venom blurays.

Scarab Sages

In my defense, I never bought those movies myself. They were gifts from my wife. In her defense, she wasn't aware how crappy the movies were. Nor that the Venom movie had absolutely nothing to do with the MCU.

Scarab Sages

I forgot to mention this. I had ordered two out of print Planet Stories books from a used book website. Based on the listed information, I thought they were coming from the same location. That was not the case, however.

Got one book last week. That's how I found out about the split. I contact the seller and was informed the other was on its way. Should be here later this week.

I'm wondering if they somehow screwed up the order and are now scrambling to fix it.

Scarab Sages

One other thing, before I forget....

I just thinking the other day about the name I go by here - Aberzombie. I've had that nickname for over 30 years. Probably longer than some users of this message board have been alive. Wild.

Scarab Sages

Huzzah! More rain!

Scarab Sages

And now my wife MAY have to go to Helsinki next week. She's hoping not, though. I wouldn't mind too much. It'd mean I don't have to drive to the office for a whole week. The only problem would be on Tuesday, when the girl has her pottery class from 5-6:30 pm, then the boy and I have a scout meeting from 7-8:30 pm.

This alias is what today feels like.
