Speaking of comics...I now have 2,693 comic books and/or graphic novels cataloged on my CLZ account. So I've only got about 9-10K more to go. That's an estimate. I honestly don't know exactly how many I have.

Scarab Sages

The wife and I enjoyed a pleasant lunch at Wacky Mongolian yesterday. It's the first time we've been there since before the kids got out of school. It was delicious.

Scarab Sages

After that, I spent some time trying to figure out why my sprinklers aren't turning on. Haven't quite reached a conclusion. I may just end up calling in an expert.

Scarab Sages

However, it did rain yesterday. And a bit the day before. So we're at least getting some relief from the heat. And my plant life is getting some much needed water.

Scarab Sages

Last night I took a break from my rewatch of Gyeongseong Creature. After hearing so much about how horrible the new Disney Alien show is, I decided I needed a palate cleanser.

So I watched the original Alien. Well, the Director's Cut, anyway. Such an awesome movie.

Scarab Sages

I think one of my favorite things about that movie is the cast. So many wonderfully talented actors. And just enough of them that you can easily establish their characters with just a few, well-placed lines of dialogue.

Back when they knew how to write.

Scarab Sages

And weren't such pansies.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, most of the usual stuff today: grocery store, comic book store, laundry. There'll be a bit extra though.

We need to get the boy an 8G flash drive for his video game development class. And I want to get new alarm clocks for each of the children. I don't like the idea of the boy having his phone upstairs as an alarm clock. And the girl needs to start learning how to get herself up in the mornings.

Scarab Sages

I saw an article about Jar Jar Abrams producing the next two Star Trek movies. So between him and that jackass Kurtzman, we can expect Star Trek to continue to suck balls. Now I'm just hoping it goes the way of Dr. Who.

Scarab Sages

Also heard the price for VoD of the new Superman movie (which dropped yesterday) is something like $24. I told the wife she can just wait until it pops up on HBO Max. That movie isn't worth the rental price. Hell, I don't think it'd be worth $2.40 to rent.

Scarab Sages

I think we’re going to skip the run to Walmart (or wherever) for those alarm clocks and the flash drive.

However, I did forget that I’m planning on taking at least the Boy to see Shin Godzilla today. It’s back in theaters ahead of its 4K release. We’ll probably go to the 3:50 showing.

Scarab Sages

And we’re getting some more rain. So huzzah for my plant life.

Scarab Sages

Happy Sunday?!?

Scarab Sages

Maybe. It might start out "happy", but it won't end up that way.

Tomorrow is Monday. I have returned to my classic Garfield attitude towards Monday. Basically that Monday and I are in an adversarial relationship.

Scarab Sages

I suppose it isn't truly Monday's fault. After all, it didn't ask to be made the start of the work week. You ask me, I blame society.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, we already had a bit of excitement here in my neighborhood this morning. About 15 minutes ago there was a loud bang outside. Sounded like maybe a transformer blowing. I stepped out into the back yard and did see some smoke among the trees behind the back fence a few houses down. No additional booms, and the smoke seemed to dissipate pretty quickly. I guess we'll have to wait and see if something else comes out of it.

Scarab Sages

Some of the neighbors down that way are kind of a-holes (not the lovable kind), so it could also have been some a-hole kid throwing an M-80 over the back fence.

Scarab Sages

Whatever. Not my concern as long as my house and family aren't being affected.

Scarab Sages

The boy and I did end up at late afternoon showing of Shin Godzilla yesterday. The movie was awesome, of course. The price of the concessions....not so much. The two popcorns and drinks we got cost me about triple what we paid for the tickets.

It almost makes me think it might be worth it to revive my aunt's old practice when she would take us to the movie as kids: sneaking in snacks.

Scarab Sages

Seriously, at this point, I don't see movie theater chains lasting another 10-15 years. At best, they might become a niche thing.

Scarab Sages

Anyway....today we'll have to get around to finally heading over to Walmart (or wherever) to finally get that stuff for the kids: alarm clocks and a flash drive. That's all I think we need right now, but I'm sure the wife will come up with some other items. She might already have a list.

Scarab Sages

Otherwise, it'll be another typical Sunday. More laundry. Some bagging and boarding. Some cataloging of old comics.

I'll also put some chicken in a marinade for dinner later this evening. That'll go on the grill. And we'll put some baby potatoes and carrots in the oven for roasting.

Scarab Sages

On a quick side note, I did continue my "let's take a break from my latest rewatch" last night. Instead of Gyeongseong Creature, I watched The Equalizer with Denzel Washington.

Such a kick ass movie. I really should buy the third one on physical media. Then I'd own the whole trilogy.

Scarab Sages

Well, it's nice to see that Weapons movie is making money. Unlike say...Superman or FF.

Yes, I know people will argue those movies are, in fact, making money. Forgive me if I don't believe the press releases of the corporations or their pet media.

Scarab Sages

Turns out the Big Badda Boom from earlier this morning was in fact something electrical. There was a second boom while I was showering. When we left the house for our brief trip to Walmart, there were power company trucks in the neighborhood.

Luckily, for us, it seems to only have affected the older houses in the subdivision. I shall now knock on wood.

Scarab Sages

We got everything we needed at Walmart, though. Plus some stuff we didn’t know we needed until after the boy consulted the lists from his teachers.

Scarab Sages

Tired zombie is tired.

In part, I blame the amount of activity I’ve engaged in today, and especially the past hour and a half. Lots of cooking, eating, cleaning up, lunch prep for the week, and garbage collection.

The other part I blame on the Sunday blahs. Just knowing tomorrow starts another work week is annoying as hell. Although I suppose the alternative is worse.

It sure would be nice to have Star Trek tech right about now.

Scarab Sages

Well, it's Monday. Again

Scarab Sages

The dog woke me up a bit early. Maybe 18 or so minutes before my alarm was set to go off. Since she's been having some stomach issues lately, I figured it best to get out of bed right away and take her out potty.

After that I just sat on the sofa with my eyes closed for about 10 minutes. Until my actual alarm finally went off.

Scarab Sages

A bit later I was kicking myself in the ass, because we bought those new alarm clocks for the children, and didn't even bother to set them up. It wasn't really a problem, but I want them to start learning to get themselves up. The boy is already pretty good at it. The girl could use a lot of work.

Scarab Sages

The drive to work was a mix of annoying and not. Annoying because I caught a few lights (at least two of which seemed to change for no reason) and had to deal with at least one complete jackass. Not because I didn't catch at least one key light and was able to make it out of the final u-turn just ahead of a bunch of oncoming cars.

Scarab Sages

So now I'm back in the office and couldn't be MORE EXCITED!

yay

Scarab Sages

Not sure what's going on this week, but I'm sure most of it will involve me trying to find things to do because management can't bring in enough work.

Scarab Sages

I've been making really good headway cataloging my comic collection. The first week I managed just over 1000 books. The second week I slacked a bit and barely got over 2000. As of yesterday, the end of week three, I have 3,614 books cataloged.

That might be about 1/4 of my collection. I'm not entirely sure. Part of the point of cataloging, however, is to finally be sure.

Scarab Sages

I figure if I can get the equivalent of at least 4-5 long boxes a week, I can have the majority of my collection cataloged in about 3 months. I'm also throwing in a bit of extra time for unforeseen delays.

Scarab Sages

Happy Tuesday?!?

Scarab Sages

Well, it isn't Monday. So that's already a plus. Although I found myself once again not really into getting up and moving. And that was even with going to bed just a little after 9 pm.

Scarab Sages

Still, I had really good drive to the office. I don't think I caught a single light. There was one silly person towards the end, but I was able to deal with him without too much hassle.

Scarab Sages

And we got more rain yesterday evening. So my lawn was happy for that.

Scarab Sages

And I was able to catalog two long boxes worth of comics yesterday evening. Over 500!

Scarab Sages

Anyway, I don't expect too much out of the day. Not workwise anyway. We've got another scout meeting tonight. That'll eat into my comic cataloging, but since I'm ahead of my personal curve, I don't mind too much. I might try for a short box.

I finished Gyeongseong Creature last night. So now if I want to watch TV, I'll have to find something. I'm holding off on a rewatch of Alice in Borderland. Season 3 starts in late September. So, if I time it right, I can finish up a rewatch of seasons 1 & 2 then go right into season 3.

Scarab Sages

Oomph! There are days having nothing to do with traffic when I'm really happy I get to the office so early. Some horrific storms moved through the area right around major commuting time this morning. I heard some people saying their drives were delayed by up to half an hour or more.

Scarab Sages

On the plus side, I had forgotten today was the birthday breakfast for this month. So, I had surprise Chick-fil-a sammich for second breakfast.

Scarab Sages

And then, on the downside, today is as boring as I thought it would be. I should stop thinking or typing about that, though. The Universe seems to be taking it as a challenge.

Scarab Sages

Happy Wednesday?

Scarab Sages

Perhaps. I think the odds are slightly better than average.

Scarab Sages

For one, it's Wednesday. Which means it's one day closer to the end of me having to come to the office.

For another, I had a pretty decent drive to the office, despite one slightly psycho lady. And a few slow people.

Thirdly, I got some potentially good news yesterday. We shall see how that plays out. Hopefully, in my favor.

Scarab Sages

Although I do expect today to be just as boring as yesterday. So there is at least some downside.

Scarab Sages

No day can be perfect, though. At least, that's been my experience in all these decades.

And that's okay. If a day came close to seeming perfect, I'd start to wonder what was wrong. Or what hammer was about to drop.

Scarab Sages

We had another successful scout meeting last night. I was supposed to run a board of review, but the scout was out sick. So I rescheduled that for next week.

The boy managed to get some requirements signed off though. So that made me happy.
