Scarab Sages

Now it’s a bit of relaxation time. Enjoying my afternoon cup of coffee. Might read a bit.

Once I’m sufficiently rested, I might clean some more.

Scarab Sages

I’ve got to keep an eye on travel time for the wife and kids. I’m trying to best estimate when they’ll arrive, so I can prep the remaining parts of dinner.

Scarab Sages

Happy Monday?!?

Scarab Sages

Well, I'm back in the office. The kids are back in school (kind of). And we had an overnight torrential downpour.

All of these things contributed to a mildly annoying morning. I am not so sure the day will improve. We shall, however, see what we see.

Scarab Sages

I said the kids were "kind of" back in school. My daughter had been complaining about her ear bothering her. She had also been kind of sniffly. The wife thought it was just allergies, but this morning the girl was complaining her ear hurt worse. So, the wife is keeping her home and will try to get her into the doctor's office.

The pork butt I smoked yesterday came out really good. Which isn't unusual. Normally we do russet potatoes in the air fryer as a side. However, those take a while, and the wife was driving all day. Instead, I had bought some baby potatoes and oven-baked them. Kept it simple and seasoned them with some olive oil, salt, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder. Those came out pretty good as well.

Scarab Sages

And now I have lunch for the next two days, at least.

Scarab Sages

Plus, the wife is going to do red beans in the slow cooker. Probably on Tuesday.

Scarab Sages

We've got a new guy starting today. He's the one they hired for the lead mechanical engineer position. We'll see how that works out.

The last one was a lush. Kept drinking during working hours. Then he refused to be tested, and that was that.

Scarab Sages

Happy Tuesday?!?

Scarab Sages

I don't know. I slept better last night. And though traffic was a bit heavier this morning (thanks in part to an unforeseen lane closure), the drive to the office was somewhat pleasant. I did at least get to cut off some a-hole BMW driver who had been a jackass to me moments earlier.

Scarab Sages

The wife took the girl to the doctor yesterday, and she definitely has an ear infection. So now she's on meds but can at least go back to school yesterday.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of those meds.....

When the wife and girl were leaving for CVS yesterday afternoon, they had a surprise visitor jump into the wife's car with them. A little poodle thing. No collar, so they took it with them and brought it to the nearby pet store to see if it was chipped.

It was not chipped.

So they came home, and the boy, the girl, and our neighbor went around the neighborhood looking for the owners. And they found them. So the dog is now safely ensconced in it's home.

Scarab Sages

The new guy did indeed start yesterday. He's our new lead mechanical. And apparently, they expect me to teach him something. Sorry, that's not how this works. If you wanted him to be the lead, then he should be the one doing the teaching.

Scarab Sages

Still, he seems like a decent sort. Maybe a bit too serious. We'll see.

Scarab Sages

I did get some potentially bad news yesterday. Not directly related to me or work. Still personal. And I can't say any more about it, other than it has me worried.

Scarab Sages

Happy Wednesday!

Scarab Sages

I suppose, anyway. I've been having some GI issues that put a damper on things, but otherwise this week hasn't been nearly as bad as it could have been. So far...

Scarab Sages

I had a pretty decent drive to the office this morning. I caught maybe one light the whole way, which was nice. There was me and this other truck, just grooving right along.

Scarab Sages

And we had a pretty decent scout meeting last night. I ran two Boards of Review. So that's two more scouts who have advanced in rank. Both are decent kids. One is a bit older, but he's really starting to mature a bit. The other was already a pretty good kid, but I expected that because his dad is a good dude.

Scarab Sages

We've now got just under a month until the next Court of Honor. Two more official meetings between now and then. Plus, a PLC meeting where I'll be set up for more Boards of Review, as needed. In another two weeks or so I'll make my first order for awards.

Scarab Sages

My supervisor is back in the office today. A client typically has him on site every Monday and Tuesday. So this will be the first day for him in the office with the new Lead Mechanical. I think he wants all us Mechanical's to go to lunch. I may or may not.

It'll depend on how my GI system is faring. And on the timing. I've got a webinar I signed up for from 11 to noon.

Scarab Sages

I don't dislike the new guy. Not yet anyway. I haven't really had too much interaction with him yet. He seems like a decent sort, but a little serious. That may be due to the newness of it all, though.

Scarab Sages

Happy Thursday!

Scarab Sages

It's raining, which caused havoc on the drive to the office. Lots of idiots on the road. I was able to work my way around them without a lot of fuss, however, so the overall drive wasn't terrible. Just annoying.

Kind of reminded me of some folk around these parts.

Scarab Sages

Yesterday was adequate. I kept myself busy. And all the mechanical folk plus the engineering supervisor took the new guy to lunch. We went to this Greek place around the corner. Very nice place. Very busy. Good food.

Scarab Sages

I did have one negative point. I took part in a webinar from the company that runs the software we use for Horizontal Directional Drilling calculations. It was all about their move towards developing an "AI" to assist with analysis. I was hoping there would be demonstration of the actual product. I was disappointed.

Still, it did allow me to fill an hour with something and not be bothered while doing it.

Scarab Sages

After having lunch with the new guy, he seems to be a decent sort. Time will tell if that's truly the case. He certainly seems to have a better attitude than the last guy.

Scarab Sages

Not expecting much today. We are getting a package out, but most of the work on it is already done. In fact, it should be ready to go out this morning. We shall see.

There were hardly any comments on the previous package. Mostly just adding a description for teflon coating to stud bolts. That took all of maybe half an hour.

Scarab Sages

I did find out the pipe mill visit the senior project manager was putting together is going to be on 4 April. It's a Friday, so I'll have to come into the office. I'd prefer not to drive myself, so I'll meet my coworker and ride with him.

Scarab Sages

And at least my stomach is feeling a bit better today. Just in time for the rain to make my sinuses worse.

Scarab Sages

My usual second breakfast (more toast) was replaced with some smoked turkey. A gift from a coworker. So the aforementioned usual second breakfast became third breakfast.

Scarab Sages

Happy Friday!

Scarab Sages

It's work from home Friday, so of course it'll be at least somewhat happy.

Scarab Sages

And I slept well last night, so there's that.

Scarab Sages

And my doctor's suggestion of taking only 1/2 of a pill every other day for my cholesterol seems to perhaps be effective. I took a half pill on Wednesday, and another today. We'll see how the rest of the day goes.

Scarab Sages

I've got a few books on order from Amazon. At least two of them were released and shipped on Tuesday. The other was an older book. I keep check my tracking status in the hopes they'll arrive early. So far, no such luck.

Scarab Sages

I finished Daredevil Season 2 last night. I had forgotten how much I dislike Electra in that series. Not the character, but the actress. I never thought she fit the role very well. Nor the way they rewrote the character as some French diplomat's daughter, instead of her father the Greek Diplomat. And that whole Black Sky thing was kind of silly.

Still, overall it was a phenomenal season. Bernthal was great as The Punisher.

Scarab Sages

The more I interact with the new guy at work, the more I like him. He's a decent sort.

Scarab Sages

Happy Saturday!

Scarab Sages

Cloudy Saturday, that's for sure. I think we had a little bit of rain a while ago, but that's supposed to be it for today. Which is good, since I was hoping things would dry out enough by tomorrow to give the dog a bath.

No bright, sunshiny-ness though. So that's a bummer.

Scarab Sages

I probably should not a have eaten that Popeye's yesterday. Too late, though. No putting that singular genie back in the bottle. It was good chicken though.

Scarab Sages

And I had a phone con with the new guy. He wanted to go over some stuff they had him check for me. Some HDD Calcs. That meeting further solidified my opinion he's a pretty decent dude.

Scarab Sages

And I think he might have originally come from Iran. Or there abouts. Judging on his name anyway. I shall have to be subtle in my questioning of him. Or find some other, slightly surreptitious way to determine his point of origin.

I'm kind of hoping it's Iran. It might be neat to have discussions with him about some of the interesting places in that country one can visit. I had similar discussions with Swapnil about his home country of India.

Scarab Sages

The rain we've been having around here has really caused a mess with all the pollen crap that's ended up on the ground. It was all going to come down anyway, but the weather seems to have accelerated it.

Hell, just the other day the lawn guys cleaned it all up, and within a hour it was a mess again. Stoopid pollen.

Scarab Sages

I'm hoping the grocery store has at least two packs of the turkey breast tenderloins available. I've been wanting to smoke some of those for a few weeks now, but they keep only have one pack.

Scarab Sages

It was a busy night for TV.

First, the wife and I finished up Reacher season 3. Overall, the season was decent, but I'll never watch it again. The female lead they brought in was annoying as hell. She adopted this idiotic Boston accent, and was overall a poor character. And the overall story had lots of very stupid plot holes. The action scenes were pretty decent, though.

Second, we watched the first 3 episodes of the third and final season of Bosch Legacy with Titus Welliver. It's been a minute since season 2, and we were beginning to think they'd never finish it up. So we were surprised a few weeks ago when we saw an announcement about season 3. So far, it has not disappointed.

Scarab Sages

And I was happy to see that the chick who was head of Amazon Studios has been fired. She's the idiot who brought us the abomination that is Rings of Perversion. And she's the a-hole who put the kibosh on a Conan series (though maybe that was a good thing). It's my understanding she also screwed up the Wheel of Time adaptation.

I know the press release about it said she was being given "first look" at some TV and movie options. From what I've seen over the years, that's Hollywood speak for "you're fired".

Good riddance.

Scarab Sages

Huzzah! Though the day started off cloudy (with some smatterings of rain) it had ended bright and sunshiny. If this continues through tomorrow, the boy can give the fur baby her much-needed bath.

Scarab Sages

Happy Sunday!
