Speaking of PTO, I've got to get that submitted for approval. Of course, the last time I did that, they didn't approve it until after I had taken the PTO.

I think the dog tried to snag something from the dinner table last night. I heard a noise out there, and when I went to investigate, she was laying on the floor. Usually, she'd either greet me standing, or be laying on the sofa.

Then this morning, as I was eating some toast, I noticed quite a bit of dog hair strewn across my end of the table. Suspicious. Very suspicious.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, time to finish my morning posts, then wait for more coworkers to arrive.

Scarab Sages

Happy Tuesday!

Scarab Sages

Well, let's hope so anyway.

Scarab Sages

I did get a good night's sleep, but only because I preempted having problems and slept out on the sofa all night. Then I had a good drive in to work. So there's that.

Scarab Sages

Also, I had Second Breakfast.

Scarab Sages

Despite the rain, it's supposed to stay warm for at least another week I think. I did see a brief report about the potential for another cold snap, but that was during the meteorological panic leading up to the more recent cold snap. There may be nothing to it.

Scarab Sages

I put in my leave for a half-day Thursday and another half-day Friday. Hopefully that'll be enough to cover the tests the cardiologist has scheduled for me.

Scarab Sages

Of course, it's still going to be a long day. We've got a scout meeting tonight. Which reminds me....I've got to get the boy started on an exercise program for his high adventure trip.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of high...

There's an event Thursday night at the high school the boy will be attending. My wife plans to bring him.

Scarab Sages

I'm still a bit sad he won't be pursuing something more STEM related.

Scarab Sages

I saw that a certain star of a certain forthcoming superhero movie stepped in it recently. It was an idiotic comment, but I cannot honestly say it surprised me. I think he will have earned any of the verbal scorn heaped upon him.

Scarab Sages

I had a good meeting with my supervisor this afternoon. He's starting to do these regular meetings with the engineers. In this first meeting, he was talking about getting to know us better. That mostly applies to the newer folks. Though I did manage to sneak in a joke about liking long walks on the beach....

Scarab Sages

Speaking of good.....

The dog has been suspiciously well-behaved the last two days. My wife thinks she's saving up the Badness for something monumental.

Scarab Sages

On my drive home, I had a chance to turn right while the folks perpendicular to us had a turn arrow. Unfortunately, the little douchenozzle in the Tesla who was just in front of me realized this and temporarily stopped just short of me being able to slip past him.

To be honest, I expected it. It's the kind of behavior I see a lot from people who drive the car du jour. I suspect someone offers classes on how to drive like a butthead.

Scarab Sages

I saw an article about a certain in-the-news billionaire possibly being part of a coalition that made a last minute bid to buy Paramount. Interesting.

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Lord knows it could be cool if they could get Star Trek away from that dreck Kurtzman. I lost interest in Trek under his run, especially with those godawful films. I remember the original series, when they had such awesome writers as Robert Bloch, Theodore Sturgeon, Richard Matheson, and (of course) Harlan Ellison.

So much good writing.

Scarab Sages

Anyway...I might have another TV show to watch while I'm waiting for Newtopia. A few guys at work pointed me in the direction of a show called American Primeval.

Scarab Sages

Happy Wednesday!

Scarab Sages

It certainly is a wet Wednesday. The past few days the weather reports didn't have the rain starting again until tomorrow. And here it is a day early.

What a shock! The weather folk were wrong.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, the rain made the drive to the office a tad more exciting. You always get these complete and utter idiots who go 10-20 mph under the speed limit.

Scarab Sages

Still, the drive wasn't too bad. And I made it through most lights.

Scarab Sages

We had a good meeting last night with the scouts. One kid had a board of review and earned his Second Class rank. And we had a surprise Webelos visit. Just one scout this time, but one is always welcome.

Scarab Sages

The best part of the meeting last night - I was finally able to resolve a mystery. I typically take pictures of the scout handbooks when I need to enter rank advancements and merit badges into Scoutbook. When I do this, I write the name of the scout at the top of one page, so I know who it is.

I had some pictures on my phone with no name, and it was driving me mad. Finally, last night, a scout came up to me wondering why his stuff hadn't been updated in scoutbook. I compared his handbook to the pictures on my phone and the mystery was solved.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, time to go fix my timecards, then do work. After I finish my usual morning posts, anyway.

Aaaaaannndddd…..The Badness finally emerged. I knew she couldn’t keep it locked away too much longer. This time she chewed up and old Thomas the Train bowl. We’ve probably had it for 12-13 years.

It was inevitable. Like Thanos.

Scarab Sages

And I have progressed in my plan to assume a Hobbit lifestyle. The last two days I’ve had Second Breakfast.

Scarab Sages

My coworker got ahold of a can of Moxie soda. I think it's from up North. He insisted I try some, so I did. Not bad. Not as creamy as cream soda. Not as root beer ish as root beer.

Scarab Sages

Happy Thursday?!?

Scarab Sages

I doubt it.

Scarab Sages

Despite not having to drive to the office this morning, I still plan on having a somewhat craptastic day, but we'll see. I've still got to leave early (just not as early) for my appointment at the cardiologist office. And for that I have to fast for 6 hours.

The no coffee part is the absolute worst.

Scarab Sages

Tomorrow will possibly be even worse. I've got another test in the afternoon, and for this one I can't have ANY caffeine. That'll suck balls.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, I'll make sure to bring some water and a snack with me for when I finish the test later this morning.

Then I get to come home and work. We're trying to get a package out today, and I left the designer with a bunch of redlines. Some of them were previous redlines he completely ignored. I'm not pleased about that.

Scarab Sages

I set an appointment for the boy to get his passport at the Tomball post office. The appointment isn't until the end of February. I tried to get an appointment at two different nearby libraries, but apparently you can only book those so far in advance, and neither location had ANY open appointments for the next two weeks.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that government services are so incompetently slow.

Scarab Sages

While in the shower this morning, I realized I had forgotten to take my medicine. That's something I typically do just a few minutes after I first wake up.

It got me thinking about my current reliance on the pharmaceutical industry, just be able to function normally. I didn't have much choice in the matter, since a thyroid malfunctioning isn't something you can cause by lifestyle choices (at least, not as far as I'm aware).

I can't fathom why someone would choose to be a lifelong customer of the Big Pharma. Yet current events in parts of the world show there are people so willing.

Scarab Sages

I've got to remember to check with the boy about mulch sales again. The troop has arranged to have tables set up outside the church exits this Saturday and Sunday. I need to get him to sign up for at least one shift. Maybe more.

Scarab Sages

Especially since I convinced him to also attend summer camp this year.

Scarab Sages

Some people have a very odd definition of the word "fail". Personally, I've always thought funding campaigns that regularly achieve several hundred thousand to over 1 million dollars to be fairly successful.

Then again, what do I know? I'm just an old(ish) man without taste.

Scarab Sages

Or...I'm not a pathetic little idiot.

Scarab Sages

Well, that was less than enjoyable. I really hate PET scans. My blood pressure always drops low, and they have to give me stuff to get it back up. Then they inject the actual medicine for the test and....woo!

Scarab Sages

Then I go back tomorrow afternoon for two more tests.

Scarab Sages

Until then...I've still got just under two hours on the PTO I took. You can be damn sure I won't log on to the work computer until then.

Scarab Sages

I keep seeing this fight going on between the Broccoli family and Amazon over James Bond. I dislike most of what Barbara Broccoli has done with the Bond franchise over the years, but I'll still cheer for her any day of the week and twice on Sundays over the lore destroying scum at Amazon.

Scarab Sages

Happy Friday!

Scarab Sages

I suppose. I'm still not feeling well. That's from a combination of aftereffects from the test yesterday and the baby aspirin my cardiologist had me taking. I was taking it but now have stopped, each of which presents its own unwelcome results.

It's one of those damned if I do/damned if I don't situations.

Scarab Sages

I don't have to go into work, however. And I'm only working a half day. So those are two positives.

Scarab Sages

However, the reason I'm working a half day again is because I have two more appointments at the cardiologist this afternoon, for two more tests. And at least one of those tests comes with the instructions of "NO CAFFEINE". That sucks balls.

Scarab Sages

I know people who are the human equivalent of that test requirement. Some of them might be from around these parts.

Scarab Sages

Considering all that, maybe it won't be a happy Friday.
