At least I don't have to drive into the office today.

I've been trying to get some software installed on my work computer, per the request of my boss. Apparently, IT wasn't involved in the purchase of it, however, so they can only help me once I find out who was, and get all the necessary information from them.

So something I'll look into today is what it might cost to get the most updated version of that software, along with some of the add-ons.

I'm also going to look into seeing if some kind of subscription exists for getting the latest ASME codes. Either that, or just do a one-time purchase of the most important ones for us. Some of our information is woefully out of date.

In the meantime, I'll be happy working from home today. I'm feeling much better, but still way off 100%. So being home is a bit more relaxing.

Speaking of feeling bad....my daughter wasn't feeling well when I got home yesterday. Headache, sore throat, and an elevated temperature. So we're keeping her home today.

Poor dear, she probably caught whatever stoopid bug I've got.

At least she'll probably bounce back quicker and easier than me. She's young.

In the other meantime, my second order of 100 mylar bags was delivered. So now I've got about 200 to start. I'm going to try and start re-bagging and boarding my older comics. The Mylar should make it so I never have to re-bag them again.

I might try and get my daughter to help me with that process. Or maybe the boy. Or maybe both.

I've got to get with my designer and add pipe supports to the model for our project down at Corpus Christi. Then I can get a model to stick in Caesar II and run a pipe stress analysis.

Ugh! Part of the crap about recovering is overcoming the effects of the medicine itself. Especially the Tylenol Cold and Flu liquid stuff I use. That stuff works, but it messes me up in other ways.

And whomever invented the honey lemon "flavor" must really hate humanity.

Yesterday was a nice, fairly quiet day.

That meeting I was so bothered by, with the client insisting we suddenly change our design to (foolishly) remove a safety device from the pressure vessel? Turns out one of their own people put the kibosh on it. She basically explained an exact scenario whereby this would be an extremely bad idea. Doesn't matter if the chances of that scenario occurring would be close to zero. Just that it was not zero was enough. So the idea was rejected.

And that's exactly the kind of result we'd have had if we'd have gone through with a HAZOP.

Other than that, there wasn't much going on. So I spent part of the day reading through back issues of New Mutants.

I got Popeye's for lunch, so that was an extra treat. Got some for my baby girl as well. She didn't like the chicken so much (thinking it too spicy), but she loved the fries and biscuit.

And then there was BBQ for dinner.

All I had was smoked turkey though. I ordered one pound. Mixed some with brown rice. Now I've got leftovers for lunch today and tomorrow.

Speaking of my baby girl...I just heard her fart from the next room. Good Lord. I suppose I should be proud.

Anyway, I'm gonna do some mapping, then get started on the main run of my day.

Happy Sunday?!? I hope so. I don’t have anywhere to go, so that should help.

I do have stuff to get done here at home, however. Including digging up a dead azalea and planting a new one in its place.

Part of my errands yesterday was to visit Lowe’s with the boy to pick up the new plant. And some lightbulbs, of which they only ever seem to have LEDs anymore.

I miss the time when you didn’t have problems finding good, old-fashion, extremely efficient incandescent bulbs. We all know whose fault that is. If you pay attention, that is.

		   Of course, there’s the problem.

Anyway, part of my errands yesterday was also to visit Target for new Halloween decorations. Picked up a skeleton and some zombie hands on little plastic stakes. I used to love going there for the headstones. You could typically find some awesome plastic ones. They were typically solid(ish) and nicely heavy. Not anymore. Now, like most places, the only plastic ones they have are these cheesy ones that light up and/or play music. Everything else is styrofoam, which you might as well just toss in the trash.

I introduced my baby girl to the ‘89 Batman last night. I think she enjoyed it. Although she never stopped asking questions throughout.

I’m going to try and take it easy today. Still recovering from that bug last week. Still run down.

Debating whether I want to play some BG3 this morning, or do a bit of mapping. That city map is taking way longer than I though it would.

Though I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. It’s 16 sections, and even the smallest is pretty big.

Happy Monday?!? We'll see. Yesterday finished a little unpleasant. And this morning started off equally unpleasant. But some tylenol seems to have fixed that up.

There were a few annoyances while driving to work, but I avoided buses for the most part, so that's something.

The boy and I tore out a old, dead azalea yesterday, then planted a new one. We'll see if this one does better.

At least I remembered to water them this time.

Otherwise, yesterday was a fairly quiet and relaxing day. I did some laundry. Read a bunch of old back issues. And finished off the day watching Dog Soldiers.

It pissed me off a bit, though. I watched the movie through Amazon Prime, and those a-holes forced me to sit through a commercial for their Desecration of Tolkien show. And those rat f&$ks will probably count it as a view to drum up their most likely abysmal numbers.

And I suppose I can at least take comfort that most real Tolkien fans are probably steering well clear of that abomination.

One of my coworkers has been out of the office since last Friday. And no one in the office yesterday had heard from him. Turns out he's sick from the latest booster shot he got (again), but he only emailed the dude who runs the drafters/designers (who is also out of the office).

So, not knowing these details, I texted him to see if everything was cool. What then followed was a quite humorous exchange involving death, taking people's stuff, and cocaine.

It was humorous to me, anyway.

I'm not sure if it's the lingering illness, or something else, but the coffee I've been drinking here at work tastes different. Not good different.

I don't recall how it came about, but yesterday I was discussing Babylon 5 with a coworker. That lead me to thinking about my DVD collection of the show, and how they had resisted putting it out on Bluray. No longer, apparently. I did a quick check of Amazon and it's now available in the format. So now I'm debating getting it.

And speaking of physical media - apparently, they've delayed the release of Godzilla Minus One on 4K here in the states. That sucks. Seems it's now going to be coming out in that format in November.

So last night the wife and I decided to start watching Wednesday again. Anyway, I decided. She just kind of came along for the ride.

Are we still allowed to call it Hump Day? I know modern folk are a bit more...sensitive....to anything sounding remotely offensive. |
