I mean, I'll still get stuff done that needs doing. Not much extra though.
Now I've got to take the daughter to her art class so the wife can stay home and do the cleaning she's been wanting to get done.
Then it's off to the comic book store.
Ugh. Still feeling like crap. Hoping I didn’t come down with something.
At least I was able to get all my stuff done. Even went over to the garden center to get some rocks. Now the critter holes under my fence have been plugged.
As further punishment, however, my daughter has decided to watch Pokémon all afternoon. It’s keeping her relatively quiet, though, so I can’t complain too much.
Ugh, again. Kept feeling worse as the day went on, so I took some ibuprofen and went to bed around 8 pm. Didn’t get out of bed until after 8 am this morning.
Still feel like crap, but not as bad as last night. Bit more of a cough as well. Not sure if I have a fever. We can’t seem to locate our thermometer. The wife said she didn’t think I felt warm, so there’s that.
Might go to the clinic later today.
Well, it’s not the flu. Not is it the virus of unknown origin (but that definitely shouldn’t be named after its point of origin lest ye incur the wrath of humorless people).
According to the doctor, it’s just a seasonal bug. Lucky me. She prescribed plenty of fluids, rest, and over the counter medicine.
Of course, she also said I’d be fine to go to work. Gee, thanks doc.
To be honest, I have to go anyway. I have to stamp an official document with my PE stamp.
Motherf#%$er! The whole reason I came into the office this morning was to print, stamp, and scan these documents. The printing and stamping went fine. But the a-holes in IT have the entire system screwed up, and I can’t get my scans from the computer.
Also, I had forgotten, but they told me last week they’d be moving my desk to where the previous lead ME was sitting. That way the two remaining MEs (me and the younger guy) would be sitting across from each other.
Apparently, they expect me to help him.
The poor bastard.
What sucked was having to rehang all my stuff. It was a pain in the butt the first time, and even more so this time. All because this cubicle is configured slightly differently.
I did tell them, however, that if I start acting like the previous occupant, they have to do an exorcism on me.
I even promised to spit pea green soup.
Anyway, so now I’m waiting on IT to (hopefully), come over and fix my monitors. They’re out of order, and one of them isn’t working at all.
I do feel sorry for my new neighbors. They didn’t ask to be sitting next to me. I’m……kind of loud. On occasion.
That occasion being more often than not. Or when I’m awake and breathing.
Those who met me at the long ago Paizocon 2012 can probably attest to this.
Anyway, time to do my other usual posts. Then see if anyone can actually get any work done. Because the same IT crap messing with my scans has out entire network messed up.
I ended up getting my scans done yesterday (no thanks to IT), but our network was intermittent all day. I left the office around 9:30 to work from home the rest of the day.
Since I still feel like crap this morning, I'm working from home again today. And it looks like our network is still having issues.
I was able to stop and get my new glasses yesterday, though. So I suppose that's one good thing this week.
I asked my daughter if she had her lunch ready.
She said yes.
Then I asked her if she had her buttfor.
She asked "What's a buttfor?"
I said, "For pooping, silly."
One of the worst parts of this type of seasonal virus is I take the liquid tylenol cold and flu medicine. And that stuff always does a number on my GI system.
Ugh! Again! Every time I blow my nose my ear pops. So very annoying.
Silver lining - It's actually been a while since I had this kind of bug hitting my system. If I can go a few years in between each such instance, I suppose that's a good thing.
Of course, I'd much rather not experience such illness at all. I think most people would agree with such a sentiment.
Back in the office this morning. I really didn't want to get moving so quickly, but I'm well enough that staying home wasn't an option anymore. And I've always found it best to get moving early, try to avoid as much traffic as possible.
Except for a few jacknuts on the road, I did exactly that. Even managed to get past the school bus stops along my route before the school buses could.
And our network is back up and running, or so it seems. So we should have a nice productive day.
The only downside is I can't seem to find my earbuds. I thought I might have left them here in the office, but didn't see them at my new desk. Might have to go check the old desk.
The only possible options are:
They're somewhere at home and I just kept missing them.
I did leave them here at the office, and someone absconded with them.
Neither is outside the realm of possibility.
Time to make some metaphorical donuts, I suppose.
Yesterday was.....long and exhausting.
I could follow that up with a funny comment, but there are Karen's around here who'd likely object.
Kind of like when they flagged some of my posts about a certain virus of mysterious origin.
Damn. Hard to believe that was something like four years ago.
Hell, next year I'll celebrate two 20th Anniversaries. One will be the anniversary of me quitting smoking. The other will be the anniversary of me posting on these very boards.
Anyway, now I just need to get through today, and then I'll have three days of potential relaxation. Friday as work from home. Then Saturday and Sunday as a gloriously uneventful weekend.
Hopefully.
Even though I'm feeling better, I still went to bed just after 8:30 last night. Partly it was because I was so tired from that long day.
The other part was I needed a break from my new glasses. I just got them Monday, so the frames are a bit irritating at the moment. If they continue to be so, I may go see about getting a different type.
Another long day yesterday, but better. Except for that one guy...
See....we designed a gas metering station for a client. And now that the station has moved into IFC (issued for construction) status, this client's operations group wants to change the design. More to the point, they want to remove a safety device from a pressure vessel so they won't have to do the annual maintenance.
It can be done, if the system is designed for it to be done. This system was not. All our drawings, the vessel drawings, calculation, etc, have this safety device in the system.
And this dude refuses to take no for an answer. I gave him technical reasons why this was a bad idea. He had one of his people give me technical reasons why it was okay. We told him our company wouldn't sign off on the change. He called a meeting to discuss the change.
So today, on the meeting, we're going to tell him exactly what hoops he has to jump through in order to get our approval to move forward with removing the safety device. I'm hoping they won't like it. Especially since it involves a big meeting called a HAZOP.
