Anyway....my mom is in the hospital. Her Diverticulitis is acting up again.
And of course she didn't tell us it had acted up last week as well. I don't blame her for not saying anything. She doesn't want us to worry. But my oldest brother knew, and didn't tell the rest of us.
So, weekend of chaos, followed by a Monday of chaos.
I prefer a more orderly universe.
Ye gods! My phone got too hot to work with my wireless charger. Since that's never happened before, I'm guessing it has something to do with running my personal hotspot.
And now I'm getting bored.
I surprised myself yesterday by not playing nearly as much BG3 as I could have. A few hours in the morning, and that was it.
Any other free time I had yesterday was spent reading.
And I did spend about an hour at the comic book store. Not including drive time.
Anyway.....time to go do other things. Maybe.
Ugh! Since we had no internet or network connections yesterday, and they didn't know how long it would take to get them back, they let us go home at 9:30 am. I love wasting gas.
I did monitor the system when I got home, and it finally came back around noon. The email notification we got from IT said "Our internet provider was able to restore service by restarting a network device."
Seems like, basically, they "turned it off, then turned it on again".
hehe.
On the way home I was able to stop and finish two errands, so that was good.
And my mom is out of the hospital and doing well. So that's also good.
And I was able to jump on BG3 after dinner, beat the vampire lord Cazador, and finish another companion quest. So that's another good thing.
AND....I jumped on my mega city map for a while and did more work. SO there's yet another good thing.
And traffic wasn't too bad this morning. That's an okay thing.
So now I just have to wait for the proverbial other shoe to drop. Too many good things.
Unless this is the Universe's way of saying "sorry I was such a wanker to you and your family last week".
Naah, The Universe would never be that nice.
Almost time to "make the donuts". Not that I have a lot of donuts to make lately. Most of last week was spent on overhead. Yesterday was the same. And I don't see the rest of the week being any different.
This is what happens when you have managers who are either too busy to make sure their people have enough work, or they just don't care.
I was debating even bothering to come in this morning. Thought I might just tell my supervisor I wasn't feeling well and "work" from home.
Then I'd have to put up with my kids.
Might still leave early, with the same reasoning. Depends on how the day goes.
I did at least take steps to ensure I wouldn't be bored.
Or as bored, at the least.
And I did apply to two or three other jobs yesterday. I'll continue that as well.
On to happier things (I suppose). I played a bit of BG3 last night. Long enough to go rescue Volo (again). Damn, I kind of wish I could have just let him get blown up. Dude is really annoying.
To be honest, now that I've hit the 12th level plateau I've kind of lost interest in the game a bit. I do still want to try and at least go invade the House of Hope so I can hopefully kick the crap out of Raphael. That dude's a douche.
My buddy here at work is a newly promoted manager. He made a point the other day about people not leaving their laptops at work. So this morning he went around grabbing laptops out of cubicles where they were left.
So if folk ask me what happened to their laptops, I'm gonna plead ignorance.
Anyway....time to move on to other things.
In a rather ironic and karmic turn of events, I did end up going home early yesterday. And it was due to actually having stomach problems.
That my wife was having issues as well, leads me to suspect the rotisserie chicken we purchased for dinner on Tuesday.
So I ended up "working" from home yesterday.
It ended up being the perfect opportunity to finish section 2 of my Mega City Map.
If I don't make it through the entire work day today, I might get to make some significant progress on section 3.
I did have some actual work to do yesterday. It took me less than an hour.
And half an hour of that was a meeting.
Today there's going to be a thing about the new character class for the Diablo 4 expansion. Could be interesting.
Nice easy drive in to work today. That's always a good way to start.
I forgot to call my mother yesterday, to see how she was doing. Too caught up in my own misery I suppose.
Work from Home Friday just doesn't have the same ring as Work from Home Wednesday.
I'll take it though.
After a week of giving me nothing to do, my supervisor finally assigned me a task. About 10 minutes before I left yesterday. So, of course, he asked me to wait a bit so we could talk about it.
Supposedly, it's high profile. Organizing all of our company standards, processes, procedures and such. Then putting those on OneDrive.
Sounds tedious. And like just the sort of thing the younger engineer they recently hired should be doing.
It pays the bills, though.
Still, I have to admit I'd much rather be working on an actual project.
