Lost power about 2 hours ago. Stoopid storm.
My office closed down anyway. Which is good, since it’s pretty nasty outside. Wouldn’t want to drive in it.
The worst part is boredom. I might be able to catch up on some reading, if we get enough light.
And I couldn’t make coffee. The horror of it all.
So for now I can just sit around.
Whelp, the storm seems to have pretty much run right over us. Lots of wind and rain. Lots of small tree branches and leaves. A few other things got blown around as well.
The sun is shining now, however. And the wind has pretty much died down.
Our power is still out, though. Going on just over 11 hours now. It wasn’t too bad most of the day, but with the sun back out the temperature is going to climb. That’s going to suck for us.
And, of course, we’re going to have to throw most everything in our fridge away. So we’ve got nothing for dinner tonight.
And the kids are bored without their electronics. They’ve learned not to complain too much, though. When they did earlier, I made them sweep up dog hair.
And she’s been shedding a lot.
My brother lost part of his fence. And some shingles off his roof.
Since I couldn’t work today, I did some reading of comic book back issues. So there’s that, at least.
Work again. Work Again. Jiggity jig.
Back in the office. The drive in wasn't too bad. I took it easier than usual, since power is still out to much of the area and I had to be careful of debris in the road.
Very few lights were working, which was a good thing. I just had to treat them like a stop sign.
And there were very few people on the road.
Still didn't save me from actually catching one of the few lights along my route that actually was working.
Typical.
Still no power at home, and no word (as far as I know) of when we'll get it back. That doesn't surprise me.
At least I have some coffee. That sort of makes up for all the other miserable crap.
Which is a very necessary thing today, considering I slept like crap last night.
It was a combination of things. The lack of AC was a major factor. The other being I was sleeping on some sofa cushions from upstairs.
Why? You don't ask.
Because the wife was snoring. Between that and the heat, I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep in my own bed. And we had the kidlets sleeping downstairs because it was cooler.
So I slept on the upstairs sofa cushions, conveniently transported to the front room of the house.
So now I find myself really hoping they get the power back on today. With the Heat Index it's supposed to be 105 degF.
I told the wife if it gets too bad in the house, to start calling around for hotels that allow pets.
I did manage to get out front and clean up the mess left by the storm. I was going to wait, but figured the a-holes in the HOA would already have people out looking to fine anyone who wasn't already cleaning up.
Ugh. Long day yesterday, without much going on at work. I mostly sat around trying to figure out how to not be bored.
Seems that most of my co-workers made it through the storm okay, though. So there's that.
Like me, many of them lost power.
Speaking of....we still don't have power at my house. However, the neighbor has a generator and loaned us some of his power. So we were able to run a fan.
It made for an uncomfortable, but bearable night.
At least I got a little more sleep. Maybe four or five hours.
My brother got his power back just before 9 pm last night. He's only a few miles away, so I'm hoping that means we can have ours back by sometime today.
He's going to bring over a solar-powered battery today, so we'll be able to run an extra fan.
And there were a lot more places with power this morning on my drive to work. More lights working as well. SO those are good signs.
My drive home yesterday took about an extra 20 minutes. That was more because of long lines at pretty much every gas station.
A bunch of lights still being out didn't help much either.
Anyway, not sure if there will be donuts to make today. Hopefully so. I told myself to bring a book to read today but forgot.
I was glad to see Rob Kuntz taking it to those slimy little douchenozzles at WotC and their insulting, self-righteous diatribe for that 50th anniversary "history" book. Hopefully, he can bring legal action against them.
Though I'm not typically an advocate of giving lawyers more business.
Whelp, another day with no power.
My initial assessment was that I hoped we'd have power back by Friday. That is no longer the case.
Considering those "wonderful" folk at CenterPoint put up this cool looking interactive map of power outages and what stage your area is at regarding repairs......
....And it's complete bullcrap.
I know this because the area my brother's house is located in shows as "still under assessment" (lowest tier), and he's had power back since Tuesday evening.
And, of course, CenterPoint has been changing their estimates for how quickly they'll get "x" number of houses back online. Because, of course, what do they care? They get paid either way.
And I wouldn't be surprised to find that someone is throwing roadblocks in the way.
Anyway, last night my son broke out his camping cot. We set that up in the living room for him. This way I didn't have to get the sofa cushions from upstairs and sleep on the floor.
If this keeps up, as I suspect it will, I might try to send my kids over to stay with my brother. The wife as well, but only at night. That way someone can be home with the dog most of the time.
And this no power thing means I'll also likely be coming into the office tomorrow. Normally it would be my work from home day, but since I can't work from home.....
And now I'm just realizing I might not have new comics to buy this week. Even if the store had power, I'd bet the books were delayed.
