The wife and kids leave this morning to journey to Louisiana, returning my mother and spending a week visiting people.
And last night was when my wife finally realized next Sunday is Father's Day.
She wouldn't have realized it if my own mother hadn't said something.
So I'm working in the office until around lunchtime, then I'll be going home and working from there the rest of the week.
The only reason I came in for awhile today was that we have a new Lead Mechanical Engineer starting. I wanted to see what he might be like before making any further moves regarding my future at this company,
If he's a wanker, I might accelerate my plans to find another job.
Still, this also happens to be the final week at the company for our most recent group head. He's departing for other pastures. Which is cool, since pretty most folk agree he isn't much of a manager.
I mean, he was a kind of nice guy. Even though he was a bit on the young side. And had some overall stupid ideas in his head.
Before I even think of departing this place, I've got to strengthen my skills. I've already started moving in that direction. Trying to get more training on this program called Caesar II. It's a pipe stress analysis program.
That's what happens when you waste part of your career working for the government, then decide to enter an industry that's actually benefited mankind.
Anyway, I suppose it's time to start making something that in no way even remotely resembles donuts.
New guy started yesterday. He both is and isn't what I expected. First impression is he's going to be pretty cool to work with. My gut tells me to like him.
We'll see. My gut has been known to be wrong on occasion.
Sometimes disastrously so.
And I stayed up too late last night playing BG3 on my new PS5. It was fun, but a little frustrating.
And the wife, kids, and woman who spawned me all made it safe and sound to their destinations in Louisiana.
A little later in the day, my wife texted me to ask if I was okay with her father taking The Boy to the range to shoot his .22.
Uh...does a bear poop in the woods?
Of course I'm fine with the man who knows tons about safely and responsibly using firearms showing my boy a bit more about them.
Plus, the boy has already had firearms experience through scouting. And the folk run those ranges are always NRA certified.
If nothing else, that group provides excellent training.
Of course they give more than that.
Ugh! I'm really starting to hate Wednesdays. It seems every one of them has some crisis (small or large) at work.
This week's Wednesday didn't waste any time. I had the email in my inbox when I logged on my computer this morning.
Actually, the email came late last night. I didn't see it on my phone because I'm a goofball and had my "Sent" emails showing on screen.
Not even sure when I switched the emails on my phone that way.
Anyway, this new crisis involves a comment on one of the drawings. The comment was to move one piece of equipment and some buildings. The equipment move isn't too bad, it actually will reduce the amount of pipe we need. Not sure how the building move affects us. That's more a civil and electrical thing.
And talking to my designer this morning, he mentioned the decision had been made by (at least) the engineering manager to not pick up those changes.
We had a visit from the client yesterday, so that must have changed things.
What worries me most, however, is the other comments that weren't picked up. Pretty sure we were going to ignore them as well, since they dealt more with pipe header sizes and such, and all that was decided upon very early in the project.
Still, now I'm worried we'll be overridden again about those. And that I'll be the one taking the blame for them not being picked up.
Ah well. Such is life. And the Universe never seems to be truly happy unless it's messing with my life.
If I ever have a Wednesday where something doesn't go wrong, I'll be amazed. Like "sign of the apocalypse" amazed.
Also....Baldur's Gate 3 is very fun.
Ugh! The dog has been losing her winter coat, so there is hair....
HAIR!!! EVERYWHERE!
Between that and getting bit by two or more skeeters every time I take her out in the morning, I don't know which is worse.
Made one of my very rare (these days) visits to Popeye's for dinner last night. Picked up some of their nuggets.
Not as good as I remember.
I keep staying up too late playing BG3. It's fun, although I've had to do short resets on occasion.
And there have been a few combats where it was a close call.
The only real downside to the game, in my opinion, is that you only get a party of four. So yourself and three companions.
I was hoping to play a monk at one point, but this configuration would make that much more challenging.
Maybe I could multiclass. Take a level or two of something like fighter or rogue, then switch to monk.
Or I could just suck it up and role with it. So to speak.
My nephew bugged me last night because he and his godfather want me to play BG3 with them.
I said okay. For tonight. Apparently they can invite me. Not sure how it's going to work with me in a different house and all. Some new-fangled technology the kids these days know all about.
I'm worried it will mess up my personal game, but if it does, I'll just start a new one.
Then again, it's entirely possible they won't be able to invite me. I kind of think I was successful in setting up my PS5 so that random douchebags couldn't contact me. And since I don't have any "friends" listed....
Because I mostly dislike people.
I don't hate, however, because most people aren't worthy of my hate.
Anyway, yesterday was a long, but productive day. Even if I did spend most of my hours on one project.
Since I've been working from home all week, I just leave my computer set up at the desk. I haven't even been turning it off. So I logged in this morning to find my supervisor tried to teams call me last night, around quarter to 5. Unfortunately, I had already stopped working around 4 pm (which is typically the end of my 8 hour day).
I would have still answered the call, if I had been here. However, I had to run over to the grocery store to get sustenance for dinner.
And garbage bags. I was completely out of those.
And some liquid plumber. Now my bathroom sink is flowing freely again.
