First, a few more of the usual posts. Then it's time to make the donuts.
So they moved us to a new software for our timesheets. Very sudden. We had the training notification last Tuesday or Wednesday. Training was on Thursday. And we started using it yesterday.
Coincidentally, I worked from home the back half of yesterday. Surprise, surprise! I ran into problems using the software remotely. Some jackass clearly didn't think things through.
One of the problems is to work remotely the software tried to force me to download some authenticator app from microsoft to my phone. I didn't want to do that. Luckily, the IT guy who ran the training helped me figure a way around it.
I can understand them trying to force me to get the app on my phone. I get money from the company to have my emails and teams on there. I don't like the idea of this app, though.
And the app being necessary for the phone won't go over well with other people in the office. There are several I know who don't accept money for their phone because they don't want work stuff on their personal phones.
It shouldn't be this hard to try to get paid. Someone didn't think this through.
Otherwise, the software for the timecards isn't too bad. Even with the one brief training session, I'm kind of able to sort my way through it.
A good drive in right up until near the end. Some pansy in a truck ahead of me took the u-turn like an 80 year old grandmother on valium. Then proceeded to cut about 3 other cars off so he could get over.
New guy started yesterday. Not what I was expecting a Johann to look like.
And I had my visit with the oral surgeon. He was cool. Appointment is set for June 4th to get my tooth cut out. They'll use IV sedation, so I'll have to take off that whole day most likely.
And since I'm not supposed to eat or drink anything before the procedure, I made it for as early as possible - 7:30 am. My wife wasn't happy about that, since she'll have to drive me.
My daughter won't be happy about it either. Since she has to come with us.
It's been a very busy work from home Wednesday.
In fact, technically I both am and am not still at work.
In other words, I'm still online, and waiting for some drawings to be finished so I can backcheck them and approve them to be sent to the client.
I am, however, outside of my work hours.
Much of this was caused by my supervisor neglecting to let me know this drawing package was supposed to go out today.
Tomorrow will likely be equally as busy. I've got at least one other drawing package to check, plus two PVF Bid evaluations to work through.
PVF being Pipe, Valves, & Fittings. We put out orders to multiple vendors for two different projects. I have to go through each of the bids and check to see the viability. I'll focus mostly on compliance to the client's Approved Manufacturers List and delivery schedule. Price is a tertiary consideration.
There was also some confusion on hydrotest documentation. And apparently they want my cell phone number so they can text me pictures and status updates when they're doing the tests tomorrow.
I might "forget" I read through that email.
Damned HOA. Clearly it's staffed by complete morons who don't understand the effects an oak tree's roots can have on the grass around it.
Reminds me of the joke comment I recently heard: A group of Karens is called a Homeowners Association.
I stayed online with work until just after 9:30 last night. Then I went to bed. When I checked this morning, my supervisor had sent a teams message the drawings were ready to be checked.....about 5-10 minutes after I dropped off.
So I came in a bit early to get the drawings checked. And found some errors.
Then there was another thing. Followed by a few more things.
All in all, it's going to be another busy day.
At least I have this short reprieve.
And it's always better than the alternative.
And my movie that I ordered was originally set for delivery tomorrow. Then I got and email saying it would be delivered early on Wednesday. It never came yesterday (probably a good thing). Hopefully it'll arrive today.
I also ordered another book. This one on Hydrostatic Testing. Oddly enough, it was cheaper through Amazon than through Abe Books.
Also, turns out one of the new PMs is a member of my fraternity. That's cool.
I was approved to have access to my HOA's App. So there's that. As I suspected, however, its designed with exactly the kind of petty bureaucracy that makes the world a poorer place. There's no straightforward way to contact anyone. And if you want to find out the rules you have to wade through a bunch of documents of various lengths.
So I've got a guy coming out today to take a look at the tree. He might be able to grind the roots out, but that's only a short reprieve. I'd dearly love to just have the tree removed altogether.
The manager who hired me moved over to another group but kept his office near my desk. Not too long ago, we were in the kitchen talking and he mentioned that he always searches the snack tray for apple cinnamon oatmeal packets but has a hard time finding them.
Since I get here much earlier that he does, and am around when the tray is refreshed, I've started looking out for those oatmeal packets. Then I leave them on his desk.
Only thing is, I haven't told him I'm doing it. One other dude knows, and the manager actually thought he might be doing it.
So I'm kind of messing with him, but in a nice way.
In truth, I am trying to be nice. I'm grateful to him for giving me the opportunity to jumpstart my career again. I just don't think he needs to know.
Plus, I am kind of enjoying messing with him.
Last night I watched The Devil Rides Out. AN old Hammer horror film starring Christopher Lee as a good guy. It was based off a Dennis Wheatley book. I love the movie, and finally had an opportunity to order it on bluray.
Ugh! I should know better than to completely trust the google maps.
I've been wanting to get rid of some stuff, so I checked to see if the public dump was open. The google maps said "yes". So the boy and I loaded up the truck and headed on over.
The google maps lied.
The place was closed for the holiday. Which is technically not until Monday, but that never stopped a government employee from taking an extra day off.
The wife and daughter are about to leave for Louisiana. They're driving in today, then driving back on Monday. When they return, they'll bring my mother with them. She's going to stay at our house for a week. Then attend my nephew's high school graduation. Then stay with my brother for a week.
After two weeks here in Texas, my wife and both kids will bring her back to Louisiana, where they'll stay for a week.
While they're doing that, I'll be working from home.
Awhile back I had introduced the boy to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Last night we watched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Tonight maybe we'll watch War for the Planet of the Apes.
After that, I should really buy the original five movies and get him to watch those.
During the day, however, we'll be cleaning house for the next few days.
And he'll be packing for his scout Summer Camp. He leaves for that next Sunday.
Ouch. While loading the truck this morning, and old cabinet door swung closed and pinned my finger. There was a little blood. And it'll probably be sore for a few days.
I’m sure it’ll be happy for someone.
I don’t expect mine to be particularly sad or anything. It’s going to be busy though.
I’ve got to take the boy to buy new clothes, including new swim trunks and water shoes for summer camp. Then we’ve got more house cleaning to do. And clothes to wash.
