I suppose eventually I could create a whole slew of Goblin Emotes to use on various forms of media. That would be funny! For now we are going with the generic smilies :)
I will have more control over things so its earlier to maintain.
I am currently looking into the basic avatar images so you guys will have something to choose from.
@Giorgo I am not sure about the kickstarter emails I believe we have that database pulled so you should be getting emails directly from us. Ill Double check though.

Regarding Hellnights Addon. I am waiting for the database so I can email everyone and get that rolling. So, be on the look out! Im sure once the posters get made I can manually go in and change your images to reflect that wanted poster if you wish. I just can't do it for 10k people lol. Good ideas though! I will get that one in the fire as well. Im sure it will be both forums.

Our Forums will debut in a Minimum Viable Product level of functionality - like everything we do. There will be fewer features than you're used to on the paizo.com forums for a while. We will iterate and things will become more complex over time.
Ummmm... If it has less features than the free forums many of us are using, MVP will not be a valid excuse.

We are hardening our forums against the anticipated arrival of people who want to do us harm. So we are using very limited functionality and not deploying untrusted code. We are also integrating with our content-management system and our single sign-on system.
So we have a minimum viable product that has less functionality than what you can get out of the box if you're willing to deploy a prepackaged LAMP stack, run someone else's untested code, and not integrate with a website designed to handle a very high load.

Andius the Afflicted wrote:3. Edit Function - Will we able to edit posts? How long after they are posted can we edit them?I hope they allow unlimited editing of OPs, so recruitment and information threads don't need to be constantly re-posted as things change =)
In that case, I think we'd need special rules for the company/settlement/recruitment section to provide indexation not based only on latest post, else there may well be a bump contest to keep your group at the top or at least the front page. Happens on every mmorpg forum I've visited. Sure would be nice to have another system for it.

Reddit just created a sub-reddit for PFO recruitment, as the only things getting posted were recruitment threads. They were hogging up the whole thing. IT was mostly us known Paizo posters hogging it up too.
The Echo Woodsmen, EoX, and Forgeholm were the only groups who submitted recruitment threads before PFORecruitment was formed. There were several other messages interspersed, so they were hardly "the only things getting posted." There were also posts with questions that Ryan Dancey actually chimed in and answered, along with links to live streams, Gobbocasts, and several recent blogs.
The direct link to the PFO subreddit is here: /r/PathfinderOnline
The direct link to the PFORecruitment subreddit is here: /r/PFORecruitment
*EDIT: There were some other recruitment threads far enough down on the page that I hadn't noticed before.

Speculating speculations of speculated features is too funny!!.
Things I know for sure.
1. There will be some form of avatars implemented before we open for EE. They will most likely be a set you can choose from and not anything you can upload yourself. These will be pre approved by all parties involved on our side :). If you ARE entitled to special avatar for any reason, those will be available to you.
2. They are not message boards! There are specific categories that house specific forums with sub forums and stickies topics as well as a general section for each grouping. i.e. There is a specific category called General which has a Recruitment forum. You are able to post in that general Recruitment area as well as in the two sub forums called Settlements and Companies. In which we can make things stickier or closed (no comments).
3. You will be able to have a signature .. Although right now its just text. I don't think that will ever change.
4. Your Goblinworks username will be your name on the forums.
5. These are not a full on unsecured PhBB forum where you get 500 million bots posting things at all times and advertising for crap in every category and sub forum we have created. This is a very Basic set of forums for now so everything you need to know about the game, or want to share, learn, recruit, etc... is available for you.
6. There is also a section under Community for all the Land rush participants!
They will be going live for Alpha relatively soon so you'll just have to wait and see whats there and whats not.
We also have a section under the Technical forum for you to post comments/feedback and suggestions about the forums.

I'll add in my two cents.

Signatures are currently limited to three lines. All users also have the option of turning off signatures, so those that do not wish to see them do not have to.
4. Your Goblinworks username will be your name on the forums.
As your edit says, there is currently a way to change your display name.

Will there be an option for affiliation prefixes? Or will we have to rename ourselves like a lot of us have done?
Would be cool if we could have Titles associated with our Forum Name and our group. Like "The Seventh Veil", "The Empyreon Order", plus UNC and Pax and the few others. Though I would limit it to those that took part in the Kickstarter and maybe only those that end up in the top 33 on the Land Rush.
It would be cool when people ask about them a few years down the road and we can tell them of bygone days. :P

I didn't want something terribly large. Hopefully "TEO" and "TSV/T7V" would suffice for you guys =)
I had also thought of adding a third color for a star above it to signify officers within an organization, but we might be getting a little complicated there, cause then they'd have to have a system for a company leader to select who officers are. Just some thoughts =P

You can just make that part of your sig instead.

Then its not a tag it's a sig and it doesn't look as cool. =)

Right, that's basically the whole list of companies. T7V, TEO, UNC, Pax, a few others.
;)
Personally, it would be cool to have everyone in the landrush get to use their guild's sigil, but it seems like it would get messy fast. Imagine what happens if a guild gets kicked off the map! Suddenly their sigils vanish and everything gets confusing.
Cool as it could be, I think it seems pretty easy for players to do. Stick something in your avatar, or your sig.

Just a little update on the Display names for the forums.
You will log in as your user name. Before you post anything to the forums you need to change your display name in your account settings (once it goes live). Otherwise your posts will be defaulted to your login ID.
You do NOT have to do this every time you post, just the initial set up of what you want your display name to be. <3

If I change my display name to Mr. Man and make a few posts then change it to That Guy, will my previous posts under Mr. Man still retain that display name or will they be changed to That Guy?

Good question. I would hope that posts would not have a name change. But honestly there should be an Alias system like these forums.

Houston we are a go for launch!
Super awesome forums of awesomesauce
Right now they are open to Alpha account holders only and will be opening up for Early enrollment once we begin that phase.
