Synthesist + Shadow Caller: It could work!

Homebrew and House Rules

I was poking around the vast selection of Summoner archetypes looking for something to go along with my ghost-based Synthesist concept, when I noticed Shadow Caller. In my head, it makes so much sense, though they obviously both make changes to the Eidolon class feature. How much of a stretch would it be to fudge those together, if the Eidolon is suppose to look like a wraith?

I take it by the lack of response that this is a "no duh" sort of post

Actually, I think it sounds like a cool idea. I'm just not a good crunch guy. I can write the fluff OK. I would sure like to see what you could work up, though.

I've played a Synthesist/Shadow Caller before briefly; both the DM and I agreed it was stupid for them not to work together because Shadow Caller makes one small cosmetic change to the Eidolon class feature. So there's my opinion on the subject. Have fun with it!

I am playing a shadow caller right now. I am playing the Eidolon as a Skill Monkey/Rogue (Serpent-shape; I got the idea from the trailer for 47 Ronin), rather than primarily as a combatant.

And, I have to say, I'm really enjoying it.

I can see a combo of the two having great flavor/fluff.

I don't see why you would need to take shadow caller, unless you want it for fluff. There are 2 good evolutions that fit along the lines of what you're looking for, and all you need is Synthesist.

Shadow Form

Shadow Blend

EDIT: This would allow you to possibly choose other races. Elf for example, their alternate favored class bonus is to reduce the amount of time it takes to summon your Eidolon down by 1 round per level. At level 10, if your Eidolon dies, you can resummons him with a one round ritual instead of a 10 round (1 minute) ritual.

Is this a Danny Phantom-based character?
