Hey, so I'm relatively new here, just making a profile and all. I was curious about the "Lawful" side of the spectrum. Say for instance I wanted to be a Merc or a Bandit Lord, or a Free Trader. Throughout my daily actions I may act contrary to the hex's "laws" wherein I am station, however I would be in compliance with my own form of "code". Is there a way for this to work?
Bluntly put: Can something like Privateering/Mercenary work be Lawful even though it, by necessity will force me to break the laws of some other nation/faction. If I get a Letter of Marque from the West Brighthaven Trading Company, and go ply it in far off lands, will this cause my Alignment to decrease on the lawful scale, even though I am fulfilling my contract? More importantly, can I/my guild/my company develop my/its own "code" or "law" whereby I can follow it and remain lawful whilst breaking the laws of another?

You may be able to operate in other areas where your actions are legal to help counter the Chaotic shift for breaking other laws. You may even be able to force situations where your actions do conform to local laws, but you can't get around the system.
In MMO's personal codes would just be a way to abuse the system. What you would likely end up with is a high reputation, which would reflect on you performing your services well assuming you worked within the games system.

True enough. I understand the problems with a personal code, and there should be a ban of some sorts on certain types (or maybe preset types of codes?) if this ever does get implemented, which I think is highly unlikely. You just can't have a guy run around where his code is "kill everyone" can you? but I think the game already takes this into account with the stated system of reputation. Anything a player built would have to be done around the existing method, thus the massacre guild with a high rep just physically cannot be as is. Either way, just idle speculation.

GW has not really commented on the alignment impact of Feud Contracts, ie. Mercenary work.
Fulfilling a contract is assumed to be a Lawful act.
Engaging in a sanctioned (influence purchased) feud is an alignment neutral activity (no alignment shifts).
I'm wondering if one company can expend influence to begin a feud, but then transfer that right to a third party in the form of a contract?
Or perhaps it would be simpler to just pay the mercenary corp in coin, and have them expend their influence to wage the feud.

Influence is a mighty thing to be throwing around for mere gold, though a merc group wouldn't have as much official building and etc to worry about so I guess it could balance.
Either way, you misunderstand somewhat my personal... interests. So let me start by introducing myself. Brother Letholdus Zael is what I have been called, and I am at no-one's... service but save the service of... all.
I feel my comments before erred in... complacency... towards the matters of clarity and feel I should, and with great pains I assure, make it abundantly... clear then. I do not kill for gold... I do not plunder for fortune and trinkets... I do not take contracts as a means of... business... or living. I trade in the most precious of currency my friend, and I am proud to say that my trade, such as it is, is nothing more than simple... applied politics. I'm certain a bourgeois establishment such as the UNC could easily... come to terms... with such a prolific exemplar of attributes such as displayed by my... convictions, no? Indeed it seems to be a large part of the cornerstone to your whole... system. Unfortunately I'm afraid I do not perform... deeds such as you would. No, rather deeds are performed through me in often the most... ingenious of manners.
Nevertheless, whatever the Gods deem necessary for this realm I shall endeavor to make it my own. No doubt you will see result of my applied politics, and maybe even be on the receiving end should either of us be unfortunate enough to... develop inconclusive... theories. Needs must ponder long on the subject of adequate courses of... influence.

Traditionally, following your own code is what chaotics do; the opposite of following a socially constructed code.
Making good on your contracts will be lawful. Quite the balancing act.
It's tricky. Monks also tend to follow their own code, but they do so with great discipline. It usually doesn't involve stealing or other obviously chaotic acts.

It's a semantic question from encapsulating the entire thought into one sentence. Between that and the fact the entire discussion of alignments as social construct is meaningless to the game I choose not to engage :).

Run on sentences, that include too many subjects and/or points encapsulated within, are absolutely and positively one of my major faults according to any and all English Instructors that I have ever had anywhere and at any time and a constant problem, making it difficult to comprehend what I am trying to communicate.

What... stutter? I merely take pause to better choose my... eloquence.
OOC: The guy is an activist, delusioned, excommunicated, and has a rather large vocabulary. I tried to give off that vibe with a combination of V and my own inspirational speaking (inspirational meaning is ambiguous). Not to say he is like V at all. But my avatar reminded me of him.

Bludd,
Obviously having the mercenary company declare it's own Feud would work within the existing proposed mechanics. Although I don't neccesarly see any unintended consequences that would come from allowing a Letter of Marque, sort of contract where the organization offering the contract also included the payment of Influence as part of the contract. As long as the Influence was paid I'm not certain as to why it would be overly important who paid it.

Except your hyperbolic parody was three times longer than my 17 word comparison. My troubles are the opposite of run-ons, the lazy internet culture where 141 characters is too long didn't read. So I end up having to abbreviate my thoughts to keep it short enough to have anything read at all.
Too long, didn't read is FOUR WORDS but it's still too long!! tl;dr. Oh heavens that took so long to type, I'm absolutely spent. There's already something that does tl;dr it's called a topic sentence and it actually goes at the beginning of the writing; you know where you start reading. Funny how that works out. That's why if I do include a tl;dr in my posts it never has anything to do with what I posted. Serves those lazy meatsacks who can't read 8 sentences in a row what they deserve.
tl;dr Spider webs carry an electrostatic charge and the beating of insect wings generate small magnetic fields so insects don't have to fly into webs just near them to get pulled in and spiders catch their prey with physics.

Is this true?
Sorry, didn't read the longer explanation.

In my defense, it turns out I'm mildly dyslexic and reading long exposition is taxing. Getting too many lines without a paragraph break actually makes it very difficult for me to read something.

How the heck have you been surviving my posts? I know full well that I can be rather verbose even when trying to make a simple point.
