Also This but that's DC of course. But it's awesome enough to need mentioning.
Oh please... there was NOTHING wrong with that at the time.
Anyone growing up on that had nothing better to compare it to.I would also know. ;)
(I admit though, many advancements in animation and storytelling have improved the entire form over time. Leaving really no excuse for things like Ultimate Spider Man or TTGo... ugh)

I grew up on that Spidey cartoon too, and I have a lot of fond memories of it...but I watched it again recently...and it does not hold up. :(
I'd honestly rather watch the old '69 series, at least it has a sort of kitschy charm to it.
However, for my money, the best Spider-Man cartoon was The Spectacular Spider-Man. Truly a bummer that it got canceled.

I agree with SeeDarkly_X. If you're a child of the 70s then this was the s&*%.
Of course it did raise interesting questions. Like what *was* spiderman swinging from when he was swinging over the tree tops in Queens?!? :)

The 90s animated series had plenty of it's own problems...a Spider-Man who never actually fought, way WAY too much voice over narration, the fact that the g$$@*!n Kingpin was behind absolutely everything, and plenty of other complaints. I'll echo the sentiment that "The Spectacular Spider-Man" is the best animated adaptation of Spidey to date. Unfortunately, it was cancelled in favor of "Ultimate Spider-Man", which probably takes the prize for the WORST adaptation ever.

This comic explains it.

Back to GoTG: Did anyone else notice that at one point in the climax it becomes live-action Space Invaders?
Also, best scene in the whole movie:

I liked that part, too. Honestly, I ended up liking Drax much more than I thought I would. The only one that I didn't like was Gamora. She was just... I don't know... Boring?

I wouldn't blame Zoe. She wasn't given a whole lot to work with, which is pretty much my one major issue with the movie.

I wouldn't either there were a lot of characters to develop in this first feature. I wouldn't be surprised if the Gamora character has a much bigger part in the next movie.
As for Zoe Saldana, the parts she has had that I've seen are always small roles. Small roles in pretty big movies, but small none the less. Jury is still out for me on her as an actor I guess no strong feelings one way or the other.

My two observations about Gamora...
1) She doesn't really go through much development. Things get revealed about her, but she doesn't change. The revelations don't really get driven home either or feel that major.
2) A lot of her dialogue deals with moving the plot forward. Basically she speaks as a way to introduce the next scene or remind the audience about what is going on.
She's a (potentially) interesting character and I think Saldana did a decent job with her, but it was flawed writing about the character IMO.

She is also the straight woman for the group.

Well, hmm..
I'm a big Star Wars fan so it's pretty telling when I say this:
Guardians of the Galaxy > Star Wars.
My gosh, the movie was fun. :) The whole movie was pretty much D&D in space. Star Lord is your Bard, Groot is a druid, Rocket Raccoon is a tech genius, Gamora is an assassin, and Drax -- BARBARIAN baby! :)
And it was all wonderfully acted. Ronan had his big acting scene when Star Lord tried to distract him with a certain song from the '80s. And he was believable.
I was impressed with Bradley Cooper's voice acting, he made Rocket Raccoon believable.
Secondly, I was most impressed with Thanos. The guy was brilliantly made, and he had this grin, like he enjoyed his work -- getting all the Infinity Gems -- and what ever else Thanos does. Thanos trumps Darth Sidious as the best space villain of all time.
Everyone had done a great job on the movie. Except for that guy at the beginning, the criminal who worked with Ronan that said, "You're who?"

Star Lord is more like a Rogue/Gunslinger. Highly skilled, max ranks in Bluff, and he can shoot a pistol like nobody's bizniss.

Definitely an Archaeologist Bard + one level of Gunslinger (for Dex-to-damage with guns, since it's a high gun setting). Best of both worlds.

Ooh, yeah, that one's better, for sure.
you need five levels of gunslinger for the dex to damage thing
Not in a Guns Everywhere setting. They lose Gunsmithing (I believe), guns become Martial weapons for everyone, and Gunslingers get Gun Training at 1st level.

Bard definetly, but I'm not sure about Archaeologist. He did

It's probably a spell-less bard, I think, given his pelvic sorcery. Maybe some levels in gunslinger, I guess.
And, he's better at diplomacy than bluffing, honestly. He mostly spoke the truth in a convincing manner during the movie.

Also Ronan is an obvious Fighter. He wears full plate, he has a crappy Will save...
Ronan actually strikes me as a anti-paladin...
