I am building a new druid character for PFS. Are all Paizo archetypes available? Particularly I would like to play the "Storm Druid" archetype which is listed on d20pfsrd.com. It is listed as a Paizo option.

Storm Druid is PFS legal.

If you check out the Archives of Nethys, run by the forum's own Karui Kage,
all options that are PFS legal have a special PFS icon showing that fact.

Hello Bazil.

If you ever have questions as to what is PFS legal, be sure to check out the Additional Resources page first. Most Paizo archetypes, items, spells, etc. are legal, but it's always a good idea to check before you show up to a game, just in case.

Archivesofnethys is great, but it is still a 3rd party website. Be sure you own the actual books (or a PDF in your name) that you are using for your character.

Aha, I just had to download the newest PCGen and it does have the Storm Druid. That will make life easier.

Yes, but many players I've encountered (or at least several using HeroLab) mistakenly think that owning the software allows them to use the resource in PFS.

Was hoping the OP was aware of this, but he never answered my questions.

Umm, why would they think that? It clearly states that you need to own the book/source that the item/class/race is in and be able to show it if asked.

Misunderstanding that HeroLab is a 3rd party company and not related to Paizo. It's more common than you probably notice.

I have actually seen the argument: Hero lab must pay a licensing fee, to do what they do, or Paizo would sue them. Therefore, if I buy a Hero Lab supplement, it is like buying the PDF from Paizo. And it must be accurate, or Paizo would shut them down, so that isn't a problem.

With Herolab (and PCGen too) you don't see the whole class or feat text. You need to actually have all the text descriptions to understand the item in question.

Nylanfs, WE agree with you, and you've obviously never encountered a blank stare when you tried to explain this to someone, but it happens none-the-less.

Not everybody is on the same level of rules understanding.

No it most emphatically IS not like buying the PFS, at least as far as source requirements for using non-Core material. If you want to use Non-Core material, you need to buy the book or PDF containing it. Herolab purchases do not count at all on this.

With Herolab you need to print out the "Abilities and Gear" dossier to see the full text of abilities and items if it's beyond 3 lines.

Someone expressed disbelief that anyone would think that, so I was supplying the mindset that comes to that erroneous conclusion. In fact I was using it as an example of how far some people's perception deviates from reality.

I have many Paizo books and supplements but not yet the one with the Storm Druid in it. Now that I know Storm Druid is an acceptable option in PFS I'll be buying "Ultimate Magic".
