Help With Some Retraining / FP Questions

Pathfinder Society

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to be playing a game this weekend and have some questions about bards, feats, and faction points. I'll be playing a just re-trained level 2 Aasimar bard (just played 3rd session) specializing in Inspire Courage.

I'm sure that these questions have been asked before...my google-fu is failing me right now.

1 - Can I retrain my character without using the rules from Ultimate Campaign? I don't own the book- how are these rules "better" than the normal PFS re-training rules?

2 - When retraining, the guide says I can "keep my treasure". I've spent some of my gold on items for the pre-retrained character. Do I get the full amount of this gold back when I retrain (aka a clean slate), or, do I sell my current items as normal and purchase what I need from the remainder?

3 - I eventually want to take the feats Master Performer and Improved Master Performer from the Faction Guide. Again, I don't own the book...yet. But, I've looked at both feats on the websites Articles of Nex and Obsidian Portal but they list different requirements. Which source is correct?

Thanks for your help!

Yes, if the character hasn't yet been played above 1st level.

They're more strict and require spending gold and prestige, but they allow some rebuilding to be done by characters of level 2+.

You can sell the items back, but you get full gold for them, rather than half. You can't sell back items bought with prestige points, or part-used consumables (e.g. batches of ammunition).

I don't believe those feats are PFS legal - they're certainly not mentioned in the Faction Guide section of Additional Resources.

Thanks Paz.

Follow up question - why would feats printed in a "faction guide" not be legal for PFS? Arn't the various faction options designed for PFS play?

Thanks!

Because they're not listed as legal in Additional Resources:

Additional Resources wrote:

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Faction Guide

Feat: Fast Crawl; Spells: hibernate, tripvine; Traits: Beast of the Society, Berserker of the Society, Blade of the Society, Defender of the Society, Exalted of the Society, Greater Adept of the Society, Havoc of the Society, Honored Fist of the Society, Maestro of the Society, Stalwart of the Society, Tracker of the Society

No, the groups in the Faction Guide represent other organisations not connected to the Pathfinder Society. They use very similar mechanics, but the only legal factions for PFS are in the Guide to PFS Organised Play (free PDF).

Those are Factions that are present in the world of Golarion. The Faction Guide is just a splatbook for Pathfinder in general. It is not specific to the Pathfinder Society campaign.

Well boo...though, I suppose that makes sense.1

Are there any PFS legal feats that do the same thing as Master Performer - i.e. boosts the bonus provided by Inspire Courage?

Thanks!

You're an Aasimar. Are you taking the Favored Class Bonus for Bard?

The regular PFS retraining rules is you can change ANYTHING about your character before the first time your character is played at level 2*. There is no gold cost, no prestige cost , no brownie points, and it doesn't even cost a single peso. You can be a barbarian one session a wizard the next and a bard after that before settling on whatever you want.

The Ultimate combat training rules are worse in that they take time, money, and (in PFS) prestige points to do. They are better than the PFS training rules in that they work at any level. Your 9th level wizard can decide that spell penetration and greater spell penetration would be REAAAALY nice to have what with him going after demons this season.

2 - When retraining, the guide says I can "keep my treasure". I've spent some of my gold on items for the pre-retrained character. Do I get the full amount of this gold back when I retrain (aka a clean slate), or, do I sell my current items as normal and purchase what I need from the remainder?

When using the first level retrain you have a clean slate except consumables. If Conan the barbarian bought a 2 handed sword and then became Conan the Librarian the two handed sword goes back on the rack at full price and the Librarian doesn't lose a cent. If Conan the Barbarian drank 4 potions of cure light wounds then it still comes out of Conan the Librarians Pocket.

AFAIK With the post level 2 retraining If you bought a +4 greatsword and retrained weapon focus greatsword over to weapon focus nodachi you're out of luck.
