If the movie is going to be anything like the last two, then just tar and feather anyone planning on being involved in the project. Nip that right in the bud right now. Movies based on video games are so consistently bad that there's no point in making them just because one might buck the trend.
I kinda liked the first one. It was hardly Oscar worthy, but it was a fun film. Jolie was great.
Everyone's entitled to err on the side of their own personal tastes, but I stand by my opinion that the only thing worse than movies based on video games are video games based on movies.

If you consider the Arkham games to be based on the Batman movies (they are clearly a very different version of Batman, but I doubt we would have seen them had not the movies been such a huge success), then they are examples of good video games based on movies.

Other than that we have Telltale Games' superb "The Walking Dead", which is one of the best video games Iv'e played this year and is simply better than the TV show in every way (again, I know it's actually based on a comic book but it happened because of the TV show).

Other than that, some of the Star Wars video games were decent, some were great (Knights of the Old Republic by Biowere). I never played the aforementioned "Escape from Butcher Bay" but I only ever heard good things about it.

Besides, the movie "Doom" was, like, the best movie ever.

Don't forget Spiderman 2: The Movie: The Game.

I was just about to mention that one. Awesome game.

The Lego franchise has had some pretty fun movie-based games too.

The Arkham games are pretty blatantly NOT based on the Nolan-verse Batman, given the existence of superpowers and the fact that Two-Face's criminal career lasted longer than 20 minutes.

Mortal Kombat the movie was the Truth.

I remember the LotR games that were based on the movie being pretty fun.

I had the Two Towers game for the PS2 and I remember enjoying it a lot.

Even though Legolas was hilariously overpowered once you got the "Piercing Purple Fire Arrows of Doom" that basically instakilled entire lines of enemies.

Sovereign Court

Return of the king was incredibly fun, especially in coop. And the transitions from the movie to the game were masterfully done.

Sorry, but after looking up Gemma, I have to say, "Maybe?"

I could see it.

Especially if they go with the more realistic Lara of the reboot, instead of the blowup doll of previous games.

Of course, Gemma also has the right assets to play either.

The Jolie movies were based on a popular video game. I liked both movies.

However, if someone wants to create a new movie and base a character on realism like Bear Grylls, watch reality TV.

If not, make an entertaining movie based on a video game.

If it's going to be the other way around, I'm sure there will be a lot of people NOT watching it.

What does that have to do with anything we were discussing thus far?

Er, I'm talking about basing it on the VIDEO GAME reboot. The one that was the most successful entry in the franchise to date. And that is being re-released on the PS4 and XBone.

The fact that I called it more realistic is mostly based on the fact that Lara in the game looks more like an actual woman than a blowup doll.

Then Why are you posting in the Movie section? The OP asked for a vote on a replacement for Angelina Jolie. Nothing in it said ANYTHING about a game or a movie. Since the post was in movies, I had to assume this was for a movie. I didn't like any of the Rough and Real characters that were posed and I gave my 2 cents on the matter.

Context.

It's important.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Cobie Smulders.

If dark hair in a wicked long plait and skin tight attire are the requirements - Cobie's your gal. Plus she's Canadian. ;)

We won't hold that against her, fear not.

Of choices 1-5 I think non really fits. But I'm not sure I've seen all of them in actual movies.
Edit: Cobie Smulders could work, yes.
