Its frowned upon. Thats why chelaxians always look so unhappy.

So. Much. Frowning...

Silver Crusade 4/5

6 people marked this as a favorite.

So... I am going to be a total dick and say this next sentence:

I love the new options in Season 5 where I don't have to *fight everything*. For those of you who power game at 1st level and are crying about it: too darn bad, better come up with a new build strategy.

I am sorry, but in lower tiers, fighting everything and becoming "murder hobos" like we have in the past, is not a good idea when you don't have the skills and resources you should to FIGHT DEMONS. The combats I have seen in Season 5 are intense and can reap havoc on those who are not properly prepared. But if I have an option to talk my way out of something, give me that first cause if I have to draw a sword or start casting spells, it may not work in my favor against DEMONS.

Let's remember Pathfinders, we wanted harder combats and harder scenarios. This is what we are getting. But the harder combats and scenarios are coming in the form of new ways of thinking outside of the gamer box, with nasty traps and puzzles, questioning of character morals, and learning to talk before sword drawing. We are being challenged in new ways than just the traditional "murdering hobos" style.

Best get used to it and start thinking differently. Cause this isn't going away. And I am glad that it isn't.

Thanks Lady Ophelia.

Im going to type up what happened recently with the Stolen Heir.

Spoiler:

The party had been slowly but surely working out that Tercio was well.. shady. The 2 Andorans probably were more decided. They had let one of the Ruffians go (1-2 st) however the party lion had ravaged the poor Galtan revoltionary to death. Thalia was saved but very saddened by his death.

They saved Bessie and the old farmer (who I played up as a mostly death getting close to senile old farmer) and one of the players did something unexpected. He noticed that the apprentice was viewing the battle from the doorway to the alchemist shop. So he decided to cast charm person on him. That threw me for a loop because the guy failed his save.

What it led to was an encounter which was a little strange. Coriana was having a difficult time convincing anyone in the party now of the benefits of handing over Thalia to her and Tercio in exchange for support. The andorans wouldnt stand for even temp slavery talk and the apprentice I kept out of it. The party wanted to talk it out, so Coriana went into the back room and burned her notes and then came back out to find out the party had decided against her. There was no combat (just) but it was close as I could see some players really itching to cause a rukus.

I like this encounter as

A) The charm caught me off guard
B) There was a somewhat civil discussion
C) They got rid of a bad guy by NOT killing him.

We recently played the Stolen Heir as well and killed exactly 0 people (some rabid dogs may have died, but at least the cow and the farmer were safe :)).

Spoiler:
We battled the Galtans and when we overpowered the guys outside we heard from inside that we had to leave or he would kill the girl. We then proceeded to take the people with us whom we had overpowered (none of them were outcold, but some were probably very close).
We then proceeded to question them and found out that they had faulty intel. We made a deal that they could leave if they gave us all the info about their employer, but if we would ever find them doing something similar we wouldn't hesitate to fight them again (btw, we had 2 followers of saranrea with us who were all for the second chance thing ;))

We also came to blows with the Coriana after she tried to convince us to give up Thalia. 2 of her cronies went down, but as soon as the fight stopped we stabilized them so they could also be handed over to the authorities.

So although we did get rid of the bad guys by fighting, we didn't do it by killing them :)

I hope we will be capable of doing it with other scenarios as well ;)

I'd agree with you if the name of that scenario was in the title, but it just popped up in this thread with no warning, and I have yet to run or GM it. Is only reason why I asked.

I've been thinking of making my newest character a Chelaxian slave on loan to the Pathfinder Society for services performed for their owner. Any ideas on a canon family she might belong to?

I've actually done this twice... one of my PCs is a "family retainer" for a Cheliaxian Noble family (with ranks in Profession: Servant) and the other is a Qadarian Slave (Profession: Slave)...

Why of course I serve the Pathfinder Society first...

Some of us might have issue with that, cousin. :-)
