Per the recent email on reportage...
It says we can run a second session subject to etc.
I was already running two tables, but due to a miscommunication one of the players found he had already played that scenario and ended up gameless, so I started a third table for him (and a few others) so that he wouldn't miss out on a game - can I include this third table then under the Online Game Day recording as it started at the same time as the other two?
Its notionally an extra table with an extant player (actually two), but if I can extend the umbrella to include this third table that would be awesome.

OK reported my first complete session - reporting tool works well!
Any idea on turn around time between the results being recorded and the details showing up in our 'My Pathfinder Society' sessions tab?
Anyone received a Game Day Boon (player or gm)? (and want to share the details?!)
I am about 2 weeks from wrapping up my session of Dawn of the Scarlet Sun I think. Maybe 10 days with some luck.

My only question: When is the next one?
We are working on a standardized set of rules for PbP Game Days that will be available to PbP GMs to use as a guideline in "regular" play, should they choose to.
There will also be clarifications on general PFS rules and how they apply in PbP games.
Once we have the draft completed we will work with the PbP communities to make sure the rules address issues correctly before the next PbP Game Day Starts in January.

I wouldn't mind, though a lot of my players are requesting a small break. Partly my fault, mine you, but because of the gameday, I've basically tripled the amount of Dming and Playing, and they too are starting to want to free up some characters. There where also some issues with the ACG Playtest which prevented them from using their characters to rebuild into and test the new classes. Not complaining, just an observation. :)
Is it possible to maybe push that back towards the end of January or maybe February, and have some sort of dialogue with the Online VO's and the DM's to work out some kinks and maybe have an AAR (after action report)? assuming that was not already the plan :)
I would also imagine that after this first one ends, the VO's are going to have a lot on their plate for a bit with all the reporting.
|
I would not mind some guidance on this - if the next one is to be started late January/early February, I will start to run the party I have now through 'The Confirmation'.
If the next one is to be started early January, I will run them through some 'filler' instead ('Ambush in Absalom', I am looking at you!).

I personally wouldn't mind more gamedays like these, espcially if we get to run stuff like specials and bonekeep ;). That would be real nice for people like myself who don't live anywhere near a place that holds bigger conventions which offer those. It's been my first experience with pbp and it's been a positive one. Some great players and GM's out there
And if your considering running them back to back, like 4 a year (one for each season), then I'd like the make a suggestion;
Why not start a new one each month? And let that one run for 3 months. That way you can have a new "day" each month, new players can more easily jump in. And if someone wants a break they can sit one out and jump right back in a month later. Or if your "day" finished early you can start with a new one sooner(say your game finished in 2 months, you can don't have to wait another month)
They (might) be a bit smaller, but I think it shouldn't be that difficult to get the required minimun number of tables you'll need.
I don't know how much work it would be to set up, or if it's possible...just making the suggestion.

I'm not a VO/VL, but I think that might be a little to hectic. I believe that all the reporting (by the VO's) is done after the end date, and with the prize and scenario support, that could really turn into a logistics mess.
The other thing is, PbP's tend to run anywhere from 1 - 3 months, depending upon the GM's and Players participation. If there where be a new one each month, that would probably exclude a lot of people (as their characters would be tied up, and I am not sure that, (after say the second month of doing it that way), there would be enough GM's.
Lastly, It would sort of make it not special, less an event and more of just the norm. Now, on the other hand, many of us are continuing to run games outside of the event, and I'm certain that many of us wouldn't mind having another player join if you would like. If you would like in a game, hit me up and we can work something out. :)
With that being said, @ the VO team, if you need any help with the logistics or the reporting or anything, let me (and others) know what we can do to help.

As above, I think I'd prefer to see these events limited to a couple a year or the like - to maintain them as a special event, otherwise they could just save themselves a massive headache, call ALL the games on these boards 'Special Events' and simply email bennies to players as we register here. The admin would all be back on us (which is actually easier than the present double handling) and they could chill.
Then it wouldn't actually be special anymore :p

So, one of the games I'm playing in appears to have lost it's GM. Last we heard from him he was going to try and post the final encounter, but from reading his posts on a different pbp he does not seem to have internet access currently.
Any advice on what we should do?

please email the Online VOs with the details and specifics and we will get you worked out: PFSOnlineVOs@gmail.com

No, but I would imagine after Christmas there might be some word. Over on another thread, Mike B. indicated that there would also be a VTT Game Day soon, so I'm sure we will hear soon. :)
The second VTT online game day is this coming Saturday. There are somewhere between 35-50 tables scheduled. There are also GM and player boons available to be won. You don't need to attend anywhere but your seat in front of your computer at your house. I'm not sure how much easier it could be.
As for opening the ARG wide open, it is not going to happen. If you think PFS is restrictive, I challenge you to find a home game that offers as many options. We include all but three books out of all the books that have ever been published. I don't know of any home game that offers that many options. Just because you can't play the exact race you want doesn't mean PFS is overly restrictive. It means you don't have 12 options out of more than 4,000 that are available during character creation.

Yeah, I have way too many kids under the age of 5 at my house to be able to make any live events like that. :-)
For an update, about half of the PbP gameday 1 games running on Mythweavers have completed while the others are ongoing.
The completion prognosis is good for half? of those that are still running while others may well end up going longer than the 3 months as several are on the second-last encounter and it's soon to be Christmas which tends to slow posting rates down.

One issue I see with having the Game Days every 3 months, is that people who don't get in on it at the get go, have to wait for 3 months to get in on another Game Day. In the PBP gaming world, 3 months is an eternity. It may be something to look into a staggered start with new Games Day games starting every month or 6 weeks. Personally, I know a lot of people who, if they needed to wait around for 3 months to get in on a game, wouldn't.
|
There are other games going on outside of the Game Day Event, and I believe there was a few weeks of time to register and get into a game. I'm not sure that's really a valid point outside of (an issue a lot of people might have had) of simply not knowing about it. I also believe, but could be wrong, that they did allow people that missed the deadline to jump in if there where open slots (and there where).
I have completed 2 scenarios for my groups, and one is working on finishing a 3rd. They might or might not make the deadline for play, so missing one 3 month segment of play is not too terrible, honestly, given that (in my experience) an average PbP scenario runs 1-3 months normally. So I do not mean at all to sound like your concern is bad, I just mean I am not sure I see the issue.
But, hopefully, some time after this one concludes and the next one begins there will be a sort of AAR to see what went well, what not so much, and how to improve things, so if it is an issue, hopefully it's something that can be brought up and worked out. Also, should point out, I am in no way official or in authority when I say all this.

This gameday has been great in a lot of ways. It's definitely given me more of a chance to play than ever before. And I did run follow-up games for both my gameday groups, though not under the event.
I know it's silly, but I just don't like waiting on the reporting. I want my tables of credit when I can get them, becuase the star replays are very valuable for me.
Nevertheless, I fully intend to support the next gameday by GM'ing one or two games again.

One problem the FPS PbP group has been talking about on Mythweavers is that knowing there is a potential gameday game coming soon has actually served to slow our play down a bit.
I can only handle GMing 3 groups at once and now that I'm down to 2, I'm debating whether to start up another game or wait a few weeks to see if there'll be another round of gameday games before I start looking for players. I know I'm not the only GM who is holding back.

What are some solutions to fix that?

We will definitely have a "postmortem" survey after PbP Game-Day # 1 ends.
The next game day will start in January - we will have a more definite date for you early next week, after the Monday VO meeting.
After that - the next PbP Game Day will be summer(ish) 2014, so roughly one every 6 months going forward.
We are also looking at doing Specials, like Siege of the Diamond City, in PbP format - we are working out the details this week, for those.
Next week we will open the rough drafts for PbP Event guidelines, as well as guidelines for Online PbP Specials, for community feedback.
We will take feedback for about a week or two and then use those guidelines for PbP Game Day # 2.
Reporting games throughout the event, as apposed to reporting all at the end, has already been incorporated for Game Day # 2.
