Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

My friends and I have desided to embark into the realm of table top RPG's most of us being video gamers I have a few concerns on how to make the Transition into PathFinder as cheaply as possible. We also are seeming to find it hard to find someone around in our area that plays and is willing to teach us or even play with us.. I truly don't know where to look as well we live in the metro detroit area any suggestions are open ground so please help... also if someone has made a post of this matter and im pretty much repeating it I apologize

Shadow Lodge

You could try the Pathfinder Society you should be able to find something going on in your area. It's a good way to meet other people who play and try out the game.

Or you could Look here

Conman the Bardbarian gives good advbice on how to find gamers in your area...though out of curiousity where do you live( just the state) ?

As to getting into Pathfinder cheap....all the core rules for Pathfinder are on this site for free. I would put a link but I am not good at that.

You could also look into getting the Beginner's box.

Actually, there is a link to the free core rules on the page already - look in the box on the left side of the screen. Beneath the banners and the search function there's a box titled "LINKS" - click the one called PRD, and hey presto, you've got all of the rules at your fingertips.

Scarab Sages

If you want the book layout, illustrations and helpful stuff, the Beginners Box, Core Rulebookand all other hardcovers like the World Guideare ten bucks each for the pdf.
There are a bunch of free adventures to grab here, you have to look around for a bit, but apart from the Paizo treats, the one calld Horror at Dagger Rock is a great offer for beginners.

Take a look at the Core rulebook pdf. It will tell you how to play. You are going to need it, or something like it, if you want to try tabletop RPGs. YOu can, if money is very tight, try to use the PRD - but without the basics and the stuff that makes reading easier, I would say it's going to be a bit more difficult.

If there are any specific questions we can help you with, please ask them.

I also can't imagine that it would be impossible to find people to play with in Detroit.

If you cant find someone to teach you the game, and everyone is new to table top rpgs in general I strongly recommend the beginner box. It comes in at 35 dollars and has in it everything you need to get started and play for quite a while. Split between you and your friends it is less then it costs to go to a movie and you will get a whole lot more time out of it.

It also lays out the game in a way that is designed to teach new players the game. The core rulebook though full of good stuff, is really designed to be familiar to people who already know how to play. It isnt a good tool for learning the game.

A resource I have used to build a group in the past was Craig's list. Usually you can find other folks advertising under the groups, community link.
