So I was reading the Players Guide for Wrath of the Righteous and couldn't help but want to embrace the Redemption rules with a character for the campaign.

I just wanted to get other peoples opinions on how a character starting with an evil alignment would:

a) work in a party likely to include a paladin
b) could avoid completing the small amount of penances required at low levels to achieve redemption and prolong their "Redemption Arc"
c) work in the campaign overall

Personally I think it's kind of amusing as a low-level character may find redemption just keeps being "one good deed away" as they keep leveling up. ^^;;

For C), it will work fine as long as your character wants to help defeat the demons and work with Mendev.

For B) you can delay the "start" of your redemption so that you begin at a point in the plot that it makes sense.

For A), though... that depends ENTIRELY on if your fellow players and the GM are okay with your plan and want to go along with it. This is the part that's probably the trickiest to pull off.

Try encouraging the Paladin player to look at the Redeemer archetype, and the Oaths of Vengeance and Against Fiends. All three modifiy the Paladin's code somewhat to let them tolerate lesser evils (i.e., you) in purusite of a greater evil to a greater extent than the standard Paladin code does.

Hey Brendan,

I was planning to add an additional trait:

Redemption Seeker
You have lived a life of crime and selfishness. Whether raised as part of an evil culture (like an Orc, Goblin or Drow) or just born a bad seed you did some bad deeds that took a toll on your soul. Until some inciting event caused you to see the error of your ways perhaps a parental figure or a new lover saw something worth redeeming. So now you've decided to head to the World Wound as penance for your past deeds and prove yourself worthy of this person.
Benefits:
Your bad deeds mean you need more redeeming than normal, you must complete 4 penances before making a will save.
The taint in your soul will never truly leave you and no matter your alignment you are treated as Evil for purposes of how spells effect you. Furthermore you are very familiar with resisting temptation. You may reroll any Will save vs spells with the [Charm] descriptor the reroll gains a +2 bonus if you are morally neutral and a +5 bonus if you're morally good.

Also, bear in mind that unless you are a cleric, your alignment remains undetectable until you reach 5th level. This will give you some time to "get your act together", so to speak. By then any decent Paladin would give the benefit of the doubt, I would think.
