Hi I was just looking at my subscriptions and it says They wont be autherised till the 8th of august meaning earliest shipping would be the 12th of August. It seems odd since subscription normally start to ship about 8 or so days before the PDF/street date but that seems to be the 15th of August is there an error somewhere?

It is not an error. Here is the subscription thread for August: http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2pz7s?August-Subscriptions

Is there a reason for it being this late since I seem to recall them being closer to the more normal dates the last time I checked? At the risk of sounding a little selfish my reason for subscribing is to get the PDF'S earlier which is a bit pointless if there is a very good chance I'm not going to get them till after the release date.

We have a couple subscription items that aren't in the warehouse yet; one of which doesn't have a projected delivery date until after we were initially estimating the auth. In order to make sure we have those items in time for the shipment (for both subscribers and our distributors) we pushed back the subscriber shipping dates. Until we actually start authing and/or shipping, the dates we give are "expected" or "estimated".
While having shipments before the retail release date is often a side effect of subscriptions and is generally something we aim for, it is not a guaranteed benefit of subscriptions. Benefits include the Pathfinder Advantage discount and free PDFs of qualifying products, not having to worry about missing volumes due to a retailer deciding not to carry something and not having to worry about remembering to place orders for each volume and having Paizo's customer service backing up your order.
thanks

Okay I understand the fact that you cant ship something that isent there but why does it delay the items already there. isent that kind of the point of having the dont hold anything option in the subscriptions? (Again apoligies if I come across as aggresive it's not my intent but I'm weighing the option of whether it is worth keeping the subscription for this month or not.)

Logistically, splitting the paizo sub items up like that isn't possible. A couple years ago the "ship as soon as possible" option was available for all sub items and it created a ridiculous amount of confusion for customers and was a huge issue for the warehouse. We had people trying to micromanage their subscriptions usually resulting in things taking even longer not just for that customer, but for everyone trying to get help from customer service.
The "don't hold anything" doesn't exist in that form anymore and has drastically improved the warehouse work flow, customer service workload and expectations from customers. We allow for "ship as soon as possible" for comics and minis, because, as 3rd party products they are more frequently releasing earlier or later than the Paizo subscription products.
We have a lot of things to consider, and trust me when I say that in meetings when we are discussing changes like this, customer service is advocating very hard for subscribers. Sometimes, things just don't work out perfectly for all parties and we have to balance what might be preferable for a few customers, versus what is fair for everyone, including local gaming stores.
