Thank you! I was disappointed at first, but this makes a lot of sense and has made me very satisfied with the power cap.
Excellent! Glad I could help. :)

The discrepancy between the max APL and that CR would indicate that it's actually a more than impossible fight. I've run APL + 5-7 encounters and they're doable, it's a little crazy to think an AP would include an APL+10 fight.
Don't worry, it's only going to be an APL+5 fight.

Ah, that makes sense.
I really am eager to see the new Mythic book though. We've enjoyed the playtest but obviously the limited selection of feats and spells meant you almost had to build your characters around the options available in the Playtest instead of the inverse.

Yeah, I've been counting the days since it was first announced. I can't wait. In less than a month I'll be picking it up from my FLGS.
Though (slight tangent) I was originally hoping to get it at Gencon. I live in Canada and I've never gone but always wanted to go. This was going to be the year too. Once I heard Mythic was announced I was determined to pick it up first-hand at the booth. I started to make my plans and everything, and then one of my close friends four Provinces away announced his engagement and booked the wedding for August and put me in his wedding party. I'm honored and all but it's a little frustrating. I'll get to Gencon someday. Someday.
[/Tangent over.]

For us it's always a big discussion about wheter we go to PAX or GenCon on a given year. Of course, living in Washington makes an impact on which we normally choose :)

What are epic players really looking for? I understand that they want more levels after 20. That's fine, but presumably its because they want published support for material at that power level. What, functionally, are they looking for?
As someone who plays epic, I'll answer this - at least for me.
I want to keep playing my character. I've got a Champions character I've played for 25 years (my avatar is the closest match I could find for her). I've run fantasy games where 1 campaign lasts 10 years. The couple of years to get to 20th just isn't enough time to spend with 1 character for me.
Personally I do something like "E6" at 20th - things go up really slow, so while the characters improve they do so slowly, but they do improve.

To those who have stated what they're looking for with Mythic, thanks. It wasn't my intention to challenge, merely looking for explanation; rarely are the specifics ever discussed. Now I know (but please, feel free to keep talking about it). Knowing what you want with epic, I now understand that that's just not the type of playstyle that I would enjoy.
Lord Morham - There are too many interesting characters for me to be able to dedicate years to one of them. Multiple in different games, sure. But one character for a decade is just... Then again, my group can't play the same game for more than 3 months.
I'm actually kind of sad to hear about

'What do epic players want? What challenges them? How do you deal with the save/bab disparity? We can't play "broken" systems.'
Really?
Look. I've got close to a dozen characters of epic level. One is 44th and the highest end.
Truth is: It's not the mechanics which is broken, never was. And pathfinder has made "Epic" even better.
What epic play DOES require is forethought, intelligence, and an epic story.
My current game is headed for epic. Probably will finish out at 25th level.
I have never had an issue with killing poorly built characters or stupid players.
(Frankly, no offense, but the guy above who skill-built but lacked offense or Defense: 20+ level sorcerer. Wish to trace teleport/planeshift exit. Moment of Prescience. Teleport. Surprise round. Quickened Truestrike. Power attack 10 with +5 flaming, icy, caustic, Force (+2 bonus/+1d6 force) greatsword (martial prof taken). Two attacks (first true strike, second Prescience.Giggle. Rinse and repeat. Welcome to epic. Bye poor character choices.)
Even at low level a player and the character should know that something can always hurt you. Being a 20th level character doesn't stop it. Neither does being the school bully.
You have to think, learn, and always be careful. Or die quickly so I can go to lunch.
I regularly throw in CRs of up to 8 lvls above a party. and you know what? If people start playing like it matters; they either find a way to avoid it, beat it via planning, or give up and go play Magic. I get no bigger thrill than watching players figure out how to use cunny and tact and tactics to survive. Heroes are not always Heracles. Perseus was crafty. I prefer smart play. Hack and slash orcs all you want, but that dragon flying over his orc army is not going to be low level because I'm nice. That's not how EPIC fantasy works.
That said: A DM can house his own feats.
And with Pathfinder, the extra feats for levels makes balance less of an issue. It corrects itself if you pay attention.
And epic magic items don't just need to provide one or two things.. You can combine items. High magic, however, is how I play. This seems to suit epic play better than low magic.
And magic items can get Disjunked. But Reverse magic aura and use it like that FR spell that blocks a dispel/disjunct by countering it and you can save your items in most cases.
