Okay, so chapter 5 is where I'm having trouble understanding what is happening.
So the caption of the guards has been challenged by Alex via the motion by Maavu on the day of the riot. The challenge is nullified the next day due to Alex's report of being missing and possessed.
That much is clear... here is where I don't understand.
If Alex goes back to Cauldron, the caption will invade Redgeorge to eliminate The Chisel, but only if the challenge is reinitiated. However, if Alex goes back and doesn't challenge the caption or doesn't return back at all, then the caption doesn't invade.
Now if I got it right, then great... please explain to me to why the caption will invade if his being challenged. Isn't the idea of getting him out of office to avoid the invasion?
I'd spoiler this... so here I go:
The invasion is there in the event of the captain being challenged. He knows the Chisel is in Redgorge, so he intends to take out the "head" of the beast attacking him.
He thinks Alex is being manipulated by the Chisel (somewhat true), although he's either blind or doesn't give a damn about the manipulation happening to the Lord Mayor and everyone else.
Frankly, I think the invasion should occur regardless of whether or not the challenge is kept or not.
