3 people marked this as a favorite. |

Pathfinder was essentially the second major reworking of the d20 system, (the first being 3.5). There comes a point when the bugs that remain can't be ironed out because they're inherently a part of the system.
I'm not opposed to a game system staying mostly the same throughout several editions. One of my favorite games is Call of Cthulhu. It has stayed remarkably stable through six editions...Paizo makes larger changes to the Pathfinder system in just their reprints than Chaosium has made in over 30 years across six editions.
But the difference, at least to me, is that the BRP system doesn't come with so many inherent flaws as does d20. I'm sure the Paizo Defense Force will be here to flame me now.

No, but I'll be quick to point you dozens of inherent and sometimes downright silly flaws of the BRP and likely ridicule you for your inability to see them, which likely stems from being a member of BRP Protection Brigade :)
But that's offtopic for this thread (and this subforum) so we can start a thread in Gamer Talk and have some fun. Up for it?

Sure, I'm game. I will say that there are some silly flaws that I am fully aware of...one of the worst being the ability to pump a bunch of points into Dodge at character creation and essentially become Spider-Man. But I'd love to see if there are any
I will say that BRP is a very modular system, but I'm mostly familiar with it at the most basic, simple levels (essentially Call of Cthulhu, which is pretty much the simplest form of BRP, with only the Sanity system as an extra.)

people who desperately have issues with PF rules can simply wait for DnDNext
Next is mostly grog though ... and it's already going the 4e route again by trying to make everything boring with stuff like invisibility and fly nerfs.
Even if they stop doing the latter Next is only ever going a better successor to AD&D, which has merit ... but it won't be a successor to 3e.
If you hate PF for whatever reason there are other fantasy options already.
There are very few games with similar design intent, especially not with any significant support ... there's Earthdawn and that's pretty much it.
I still want to see 3e/PF more fundamentally fixed.

"Universal Character Rules", examples:
Sneak Attack is (x)
Trapfinding is (x)
Stalwart is (x)
Fast Movement is (x)
Animal Companion is (x)
Eidolon class is (x)
Familiar is (x)
This eliminates the necessity for both Paizo and 3pp's to reprint the entire class feature over and over again. Unify the rules set for a particular class feature and stick it in the v2 CRB. Rogue and ninja get sneak attack. Book 1 has the Rogue. Book 2 has the Ninja. All you need to do is reference "ninja gets the sneak attack class feature" and *pouf*, done. Plenty of space for spiffy ninja tricks, et al.
The Inquisitor and Unbreakable Fighter both have a class feature named Stalwart with significantly different mechanics. The Barbarian and Monk (among other classes) have the fast movement class feature with substantially different mechanics. If the Monk's fast movement provides even more fast movement, *that* element gets spelled out in the class.

Personally? I hope they just streamline things, re-work multiclassing, and basically just say 'Hey, we got it pretty much right the first time. This is just kicking the bugs out, giving you more of the same, only better.'
Above all, you should be able to play in a Pathfinder 2 game using pretty much the same books as Pathfinder currently, just with a new core rulebook. Because I'm glad to toss down another $1XX to support the company, but let's not get 4e about it- wink, wink.
This pretty much sums up my opinion on the matter. A majority of the content I use is self-created or adopting other homebrew systems from other GMs.
WotC didn't sucker me with their seemingly endless supply of power creeping books and supplements (3.0 - 3.5) and neither will Paizo.

it will be called "Ultimate Advanced Core Players Rulebook"
amd will be a reversion for D&D4thE also, dips some cheats from 5th but with HD increase for classes
Barbarian 3d6
Bard 1d10
Cleric 1d10
Druid 1d10
Fighter 1d12
monk 1d10
paladin 1d10 (plus cha & con mod, also he will use the force from star wars VII)
Ranger 1d12

wizard 1s8
There will be Gnome and Halfling removed from UACPHB, instead they will put a catfolk and the strix instead.
There will be new useless mechanics (CMB/CMD) which sounds great but its use is awful.
And the skills (you´ll have a pool of somehting and cast it as needed granting you a dX dice to the task plus your d20 and so).
Some months after this, there will be a nerfed version for each monster, and there will be an Super Street Fighter Ultimate Advanced Players Core RuleBook Guide (which contains more classes)
And there will be another one called Pathfinder (or ninja turtle gaiden ultra megasord combo finish ultimate of the rings shadow caster brawler casting fists core nuclear ultra hipper rulership book of books) (with more classes)
