Any Graphics Gurus out there that can fix my favicon?

Technology

I would like for my favicon at www.pathfinderminis.com to have a transparent background. I originally saved it as a .gif with a transparent background, but when saving it as an .ico, it has a white background. Can anyone help me out with this?

GIF files allow only 8-bit color whereas I'm pretty sure ICO supports 32-bit color. I know that it's possible to specify your favicon as a PNG file instead of an ICO, so perhaps you might try saving your GIF as a PNG-24 with transparency and then saving to ICO from that.

If that still fails, you might want to try looking at some other transparent ICOs to see what's different about yours. (I created mine in Photoshop using a free ico-plugin I googled, if that helps.) Also, if you could tell us what program you are using to do this, that might help us troubleshoot your problem.

Good luck!

I have now been able to get it working, however since my image has a white halo around it, it looks pretty bad. Also, for some reason IE won't show the "icon" image when its not an .ico. It does show the "short cut" icon fine though.

I'll have to experiment some more.
