So, what's next?

Maure Castle

OK. My stalwart band of heroes...alright, near homocidal idiots, finish clearing out the Greater Halls and stand atop a flight of stairs heading down to the Family Crypts.

And we wait.

And wait some more.

And now we're had enough waiting, so they head on down, and find...what?

Any ideas? Suggestions? Half-formed thoughts that don't suck and vaguely fit in with the rest of Maure?

Feel free to help me out here!

Reggie.

I started making maps of what levels were connected where, and come up with some ideas. I thought that making levels closer to the top of the dungeon was the next logical step, for I believe that the upper levels would be slightly easier for creators like me to handle. But nothing I did felt right. Nothing, I tried mapping the 1st or 2nd level several times, but I just could not get the feel of it right. I have a notebook with some ideas, later tonight I will get back on when I dig it up, and post some of my ideas.

Well, the description of the family crypts says that each of the family members got to design their own crypt, which were then filled with tokens marking their achievements. Except for Uncle's, which was to be filled with 'a long cerement expressing rage'.
Afelbain's Legion built them, which leads to the possibly that some of the legion were left to roam the corridors, as a form of security.
The Elder Stair in the Statuary lists 10 Maure Scions, whilst there are twenty statues representing the eldest and most powerful of the scions at various phases in their lives in the statuary hall. Assuming no repeats, that means 20 scions, possibly including Uncle.
Given that only 10 scions were given the ability to pass the Elder Stair and reach the Eye of the Elder, I will assume that they were the only ones who were able to contribute to the design of the famly crypts - let's assume that they were the only ones actually alive at the time. Add in Uncle and that gives us 11 crypts.
Uncle's can go in the centre, with the passages linking the others all leading to it - I think a broad circuit would be nice, leading back into a large foyer which opens before Uncle's crypt. Stairs linking up to the higher levels, including the Statuary Hall, and at least two down - one to the Reliquary (Level 10) from the foyer and one to the Outer Sanctum (Level 11), which apparently leads on to the Treasury (Level 12).

Now to decide on contents.

I wonder how much a Maure Castle Kickstarter would pull in?

How much would be needed?

Enough to buy the rights to all things Maure from WotC, assuming they are selling.

I've moved on. I've DMed all the Maure stuff available in a previous campaign and am now in the middle of Age of Worms. After this I'll probably do something centered around Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk and the I've still got Savage Tide and Rise of the Runelords sitting in wait.

Is be curious to see what was all intended but that could be satisfied by a very long post by RJK. But he doesn't seem willing to spill the beans.

Greg

Fair enough - we're just getting started on Age of Worms in my group, and given our rate of adventuring, it'll keep us going for several years (Shackled City took just on 5 years to complete).

And I agree with you - one decent exposition would be great.

Reggie

You'll enjoy Age of Worms, I think. We're on adventure 10 of 12 and there have been some definite high moments.

Greg

Looking forward to it - the adventures read nicely, the themes fit well with my group, and I had a letter published in dungeon magazine right in the middle of the series - Win Win!

Make ample use of the archives here. I don't think one needs to make as many changes as some people did, but there are a lot of good ideas on the boards.
