right...hence the low magic, low level, etc etc all makes sense in translation.

Exactly.

The idea is to make a Pathfinder version of him that is inspired by the movie character. I'm thinking around level 12. I am also curious how to make him a Pathfinder Society character starting from level 1 and to progress to him to BBEG coolness. Obviously he won't be an evil orc warlord, but a CN half-orc beastrider or beastrider/mounted fury may work.

Is it legal to make a dual archetype single classed PC in PFS? If so, check out Horselord Ranger with the additional skirmisher archetype. The bonus here is the free goodies that come with ranger and his combat style of course. But the mega good good is you get mounted skirmisher at level 10, which in PFS is the only way to get it, since it doesnt go up to level 14.

AS far as making the half orc, Id look into the ARG, you could take sacred tattoos for the scars, and blood vengeance feat would give a bit of rage without taking levels of barbarian, and beast rider feat will affect your effective druid levels for your AC as well (up by two)

by level 12 the horselord gets full druid levels tho, so I dunno what happens to the boost to the feat then (wasted?) but it's a thought.

But again horse lord makes you the only mounted skirmisher in PFS, which is really cool.

Except horselord doesn't give you a giant wolf, just a horse. Try again.

read ALL of horse lord.... not just the title, you can get more than a horse, specifically states so.
Look again.

Horse Lord is just the Archetype made for Mounted Rangers. It suffers from Bad Choice of Name Syndrome.

It also only allows a horse or camel for a medium sized horse lord. That's not what I had in mind and hardly much variety.

Cory, no it doesn't,

It specifically states you can have any animal the Character can RIDE.

So at first level, yes the character can only ride a horse or camel IF the character is medium.

Simple to take wolf, add giant template and you can have that as a mount, eventually at higher levels you can have dire wolves and all sorts of things to ride (hippos if you like)

Depends on what level you are trying to go with.

Prospered after a fashion, this is mentioned in the movie as well by balin saying "you've made a good enough life for us in the blue mountains, a life of plenty.

This is figuratively speaking however, the costs of supplying arms and armor (especially decent ones) is quite a bit the dwarves put what they had into this quest, which gave them what they got on the road with. Which is ALOT less (even in the movies, but was even less in the books) then what a standard pathfinder adventuring party of 15 characters, that knew they were cooperating a head of time could have mustered So since we are TRYING to convert to PATHFINDER, that makes the dwarves COMPARATIVELY POOR.
ESPECIALLY if you are trying to argue they were 10th level or something like that then they are HIDEOUSLY under wealthed by any stretch of the imagination, if we are trying to translate them to pathfinder.

If they are indeed 5 or 6 pcs traveling with a band of NPCs hireling, then their apparent wealth translates more directly (since commoners and experts wouldn't be bringing a lot to the table, and certainly wouldn't be throwing in their life savings to match what their employers were putting into it)

IF (big If) Thorin was 8th level, the other dwarves would maybe be Dwalin and Balin 5th level, the others 3rd at least. (you can excuse bilbo from this as he certainly didnt have time to purchase equipment) then they would have a TON more stuff (chain mail, shields, more ranged weapons) on quest like this...but they don't BECAUSE by RPG standards.....drum roll.... THEY ARE POOR. And it does state in tolkiens works, the Dwarves had put in what they had for the quest, so it's not like they left their vast wealth at home.

Not to mention the dwarves are likely craftsmen and such, shows thorin doing smithing in a flash back, meaning they should be able to craft their own armor, weapons and shields, making it half the cost, but they still don't have the stuff.
So you are left with bargain basement adventuring equipment, they higher level you...

The ability to do a thing, doesn't mean you automatically do it. I have thousands of dollars set aside in the bank.

I would really like a Barrett .50.

I haven't bought it. Not because I don't want it. Not because I can't buy it, but because I haven't chosen to yet.

As pointed out, you seem to think that being high level means you have to wear the heaviest armor and have the biggest weapons and stuff.

What you wear to war isn't what you wear to cross the known world on pony or foot. Nor was the original purpose to just walk in and with 13 dwarves and a hobbit, to kill the dragon. They're going to get their gold back and want the mountain back but it's never really explained on how they plan to do either. The dragon hadn't been seen in 60+Years in the book. The impression is that they're kinda hoping he's gone or dead and they just have to get in and reclaim. Hince the need of the burglar.

But yeah. You can't go "he's not in heavy plate with a great sword and 53 magic things so he can't be high level"

They could just be in their traveling/hiking gear.

I must have missed that. Thanks for the info.

Right, AZOG--he's clearly an orc barbarian (mounted fury) with the giant-template!

Dark Archive

Horse lord could work. I do wonder how I can have him have a decent AC wihtout armor like Azog in the movie (I know I'm being nitpicky) Azog only had a big metal belt. How would you guys make that work?

Glamered Armour, Four Mirrors Armour or Haramaki with a nice DEX.

Well, it all depends on what power level Azog is at?

I mean if he's an enemy for 9th level PCs and you were already going to make him a giant orc... why not add some other advancey template that makes his weird looking scarred skin all natural armor-like.

I mean essentially, you are making a unique creature anyway.

Big metal belt could be bracers of armor in a belt, give him whatever AC you want him to have.

Glamoured armor is easy, Truss him up in full plate that looks like a furry skirt with a big belt buckle.

AMEWRC anyone? (All Middle Earth Warg Riders Champion)

You know I was thinking and realized. You could make him a Mammoth Rider on a Massive Wolf.

It might make him a bit higher level but you could make him a BBEG LT. or even a BBEG in his own right.

Maybe have him loosely allied with the Campaigns BBFB(Big Bad Final Boss) similar to Inuyasha's Brother and Naraku from Inuyasha.

And now I have a 3/4 Campaign Boss for my Reclamation of Hell's Gate Campaign...

He's one level away from rage lance pounce.

he could use his spork as the lance!

Rage-Lance-Pounce is technically Illegal now...

what has changed?

Apparently there is a F.A.Q. limiting it to Pounce not working. Or so I have heard.

I have ever dealt with a Rage-Lance-Pounce build...

Does anyone know of any good Azog minis?

Im sure ive seen orcs on worg mini, but i dont recall any that werent pricey
9hence why I dont have any)

Dark Archive

What about without the warg?

well then it's just an orc mini, a huge pale orc with scars has been a character for maybe 1 month, i doubt you will find anything close to looking like him, yet.

Dark Archive

I know games workshop is making minis from the movie. I haven't seen Azog yet, though. Oh well.

give them time

Games Workshop has Bolg... I haven't heard anything about Azog... I think he will be released when he appears in the Movies. If he appears at all.

Maybe Convert a Hunter Orc? It also gives you miniatures for the rest of his force.

Have a link for the mini's? I'd like to take a gander. :)

Games Workshop's The Hobbit Page.

Never thought I would actually be considering returning to a GW game in anyway but The Hobbit and LotR seems like it would be fun to play and allow me to have some nice miniatures for Pathfinder...

Wow ME likes their TWF orcs huh?

ME likes TWF period.

Literally in one of their RPGs you can TWF without any penalties and in fact gained bonuses for some combos.

Like Identical Weapons could get a version of TWR for every time you struck with both weapons one the same attack number.

Say Short Swords at 1d6+X Damage on Attacks 1 and Attacks 3 with both weapon hit. You would deal and additional 1d6+(X*2) for each time both hit so a total of 2d6+(X*4)

older DnD (2E I think) allowed TWF automatically if yu had an 18 or 19 Dex.

Pendagast wrote:

OD&D or AD&D I believe. I know a lot of other games handle it that way.

Now the RPG I quoted requires a specific minimum Arrangement in your stats to be able to use them.

TWW with TWR frightens and yet excites me... I think I need help...

I looked at the Game's Workshop stuff for the hobbit. They look pretty neat.

I think I'll stick with the Pathfinder pawns though. I can get the entire NPC codex box with over 300 in there for the price of one or two of the ones I saw on there.

They're neat if you have that much money. I sadly am poor. lol.

I have to bum my Pathfinder resources from a friend or use the PRD/d20pfsrd.

somehow I got a critical hit from pathfinder while reading this thread, cut my chin just sitting here and bled all over the place, MAN those orc warg riders have sharp swords!

Pendagast wrote:

On what!?

dude i have NO idea, im sitting here reading posts! Frikken spontaneous desanguination!

Hobbit with a ring. He got ya.

You musta' been thinkin' to hard then.

Remember a steady, soft stroke of the beard. Not a fast or hard stroke. Just a steady soft stroke.

After scouring the internets for a proper Azog mini, the closest i came was Pathfinder's own half-orc barbarian. His outfit is very similar to Azog's. Gut the blade off of his axe, and it will look like a flanged mace. I am not too concerned with coloration, but it could be white washed for the albino look I suppose.

is it a plastic mini?

MY wife is real good at paint, so we dont like the white ones.

After all this Im curious, what did you decide to do with YOUR Azog? what level is he going to be? What are you actually going to use for a mount? Did you decide to go with glamored armor or bracers or armor?

I like the bracers/belt of armor personally because just about anyone in a party could/would use it... makes good treasure (once you defeat the guy)

As a backup for carrion crown he's a cavalier (beast rider) 1/barbarian(mounted fury/savage barbarian) 11. No armor. Big wolf mount.

Pathfinder society. Beast rider cavalier one with the oreint belt (forget name) and a klar/morning star with twf. Horse mount for now.

Dark Archive

I also make a version of him that is horselord ranger 12.

why multi class beast rider/barbarian? Whats that one level of cavalier give you??

Dark Archive

It gets you a big mount quicker is all, and I like the "I'm a leader" and "fight me" stuff they get. I could probably get rid of it.
